    Hello.. My husbands blood pressure right now is 86/59..He has a congestive heart failure.. Is spironolactone safe to take?

    • @ThinkYourHealth
      @ThinkYourHealth  3 роки тому +9

      Very good question and tricky to answer.Since I don't know your husbands specific medical history as well as his other medications I will attempt to give a general answer.The question to ask is what is causing the lower blood pressure.1)It could be a side effect of a medication.I would assume your husband is on several, so other medications could be contributing to this.2) Secondly there are individuals with advancing heart failure where the blood pressure is low and this makes it challenging for your Doctor to manage. Most patients with HF tolerate medical treatment despite low BP measurements. When a dose is initiated in the first couple of hours there will be a drop in the blood pressure.Once the HF is better controlled these initial symptoms should improve.The important question to ask is if your husband is tolerating the medication(medications) and he does to have symptoms affecting his functionality such as dizziness, feeling faint, falls.Typically with heart failure patients in your very specific category you want to keep the BP above 80 mmHg. If the blood pressure is lower than 80mm Hg it becomes increasingly challenging.The other thing you can do is to talk to your Doctor and ask about spacing out the medications ( that is the time & dosing of the medications) to help combat lower blood pressure.The third is trying to figure if the dose of Spironolactone is correct.Sometimes if dosed to high, this leads to increased loss of fluid, decreasing BP and "contracting the volume of fluid" in the body.So in summary: the first thing to figure out is why the blood pressure is low and as mentioned above the most common causes are 1) side effects of meds 2) advanced heart failure 3) dehydration secondary to higher doses of meds 4) less common would be arrhythmias and CAD 5) or even infection.

      I have hyperaldosteronism, also known as Conn's syndrome, and have been on spironolactone for several years. My dosage is 12.5 mg daily. I have to cut a 25 mg pill in half. Before taking the drug, my BP was 150/90 with three types of blood pressure medications and my potassium was under 3 at times resulting in hospitalizations. Now with only a beta blocker, my BP is 110/70 and my potassium is normal. The only side affect I notice is I am growing some hair back.

      Your Doctor is adding on Spironolactone to remove more fluid.From your above description it looks like your father has congestive heart failure. Spironolactone can help remove more water and counter act the potassium loss due to Lasix. I would assume the worsening of your father's kidney function is probably due to excessive fluid secondary to congestive heart failure.Congestive heart failure can contribute to reduced blood flow in the kidneys. Repeat blood work will help monitor kidney function as well as see if adding Spironolactone helped.

    Hi i got clinical questions that i cant get the answer till now. I was asked why in ward dr give frusemide but give spironolactone instead when discharge the patient? I knew that frusemide was to treat symptoms and faster action compared to spirono. But i was asked the benefit of it? I thought its help with reduce bp as well thats why they gave it during dc. But then they said no and its related to aldosterone?? And i still didnt get it 😢
    What i know regarding aldosterone it just helps with potassium sparring 😭 but em still didnt get it why dr discharge the patient with spirono instead of frusemide ? Can you help enlighten me?
