    Hi, Lexi! 🤗 I know this is an older video, but considering your vast knowledge with Fude brushes, hope it's okay to ask - between silver fox hair and squirrel+goat mix brushes, which would you say has better/more pickup, laydown, and creates a more airbrushed finish? 🙂 Would you say fox bristled brushes apply similarly to the squirrel+goat mix ones, or would it have lighter pickup and application since the mixes contain goat? 🙂 Thank you so much! 🤗

    • @LexiJong
      @LexiJong  11 місяців тому

      It's honestly difficult to compare them so broadly because the mixed bristle brushes can have different amounts of squirrel vs. goat and the quality levels of the goat may vary as well. In general, they will be fairly similar but if you have two identical brushes, I think the fox will be a bit more consistent and have better pickup/laydown. Hypothetically, the goat hairs will pick up more product than the squirrel hairs in the mix which will create a softer finish overall. I think both a mix and the fox are great, soft hair choices with nice pickup but the brush shape and density will be more of a factor in providing the finish you want.

      @@LexiJong - Thank you for always taking the time to respond so thoughtfully, Lexi! 🤗❤️ Would you say there is no need to get squirrel+goat mix brushes of the same style/size, then, if we already own the Chikuhodo FO brushes? 🙂 I was considering getting the Hakuhodo squirrel+goat mix brushes of the same size and style as my FO brushes, IF they would provide different pickup and laydown, but if the pickup and laydown are similar enough between that mix and the FO ones, maybe not a necessary purchase? 🙂

    • @LexiJong
      @LexiJong  11 місяців тому

      So I have a few different squirrel/goat mixes and some of them are so incredibly soft and others definitely feel more firm and less soft so it can be hard to say. The Hakuhodo ones I have are very soft but there are so many other size options that I would try to go for something slightly different. I know I purchased a Hakuhodo brush with the FO-4 shape but a different size and that one is great and I'm happy having them be slightly different. I still feel like the FO is a bit softer. So all in all, I don't think they are a necessary purchase but a nice addition. I honestly think we will keep seeing more synthetic mixes in the next few years so if you have the room in your budget now, I think it's a good time to get the natural hair mixes while the quality at these levels is more affordable. I think the supply issues are really going to continue driving prices higher and companies will be mixing in synthetic fibers to accommodate for the low supply.

      I love my Surratt face brushes as well as the various other brands of squirrel brushes I have bought over the years. I have yet to invest in Sonia G brushes. I plan on buying individual brushes from her sky face and eye sets when they become available. If i like the first few, i can buy the sets. If you had to choose between the fox brushes and their Sonia G equivalents, which ones would you pick?

    • @LexiJong
      @LexiJong  4 роки тому +1

      @@jocelynel-fab5214 it is hard to say. The fox are my most luxurious brushes but the Sonia G are my everyday, workhorse brushes.
      Shapewise, the Sonia G Face one brush is the same as the foundation brush but it is much larger - I would choose that over the fox because I prefer the size. I do not have Sonia G's Base one which is more similar.
      For the powder brushes, I really love the fox and master face from the sky collection and I think I will just trade off on those. The master face has shorter fibers so it is a bit firmer and also works well with pressed powders but the fox I would primarily use for loose powders. I can't really pick between those.
      For the cheek brushes, it would be great to have a fox and one of the undyed goat hairs from Sonia G so that you could use it with cream products if you desire. (Maybe the angled fox and the classic cheek from sonia g.)
      For the eye brushes, I would pick Sonia G - the sky and pro set are great but I think the sky is a little better for me. I saw that Sonia G just mentioned a few days ago on instagram that she is hoping to have some of the sky brushes back in February. I'll let you know if I hear any more!

    Lovely brushes! Love the personalization with your name.
    I have a few Chantecaille and Sigma brushes. They’re all synthetic. My Sigma powder brush is my least favorite. It’s not soft at all for my sensitive, rosacea skin.
    The fox brush for eyes seems ideal for single shadows. I just love how you blended Giraffe and Lion. Also, thanks for the idea of blending Moabi and Honeypot lip veils together. I’ll try that.
    I’m so afraid to get water in the ferrule of my brushes when cleaning. Any tips? I don’t submerge them; I just find that cleanser/water gets painfully close to the ferrule - or else they don’t seem clean. It’s a challenge for me.
    My only question is ~ What is your favorite brush to apply Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation?
    Thanks! Your complexion looks flawless.

    • @LexiJong
      @LexiJong  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I just ordered one of the Chantecaille brushes last night but it is coming with my pre-order so it will be a while before I get to try it out.
      For washing, I basically follow Sonia G's instructions (sweetmakeuptemptations.com/2019/03/30/cleaning-caring-storing/). I have a foaming soap dispenser I bought at target that I fill with about 20% Dr. Bronner's liquid soap and then water. I will use pump it in my hand and then swirl the dampened brush in that, rinse under warm water while the brush points down. I squeeze the water out and place it on a folded towel at the edge of the sink. The folded towel elevates the handles a little and the bristles hang over the edge. I also use the Beauty blender solid soap and for that I just get the soap and brush wet under water and swirl the brush in the soap. Rinse and dry the same way. The liquid soap seems to be a bit gentler (probably less soap used overall) so I consider the solid soap more for a deep clean.
      For the future skin, I usually use the synthetic Koyudo Fu-Pa brush (www.beautylish.com/s/koyudo-fu-pa-series-fu-pa03-powder-liquid-foundation-brush) or the Kevyn Aucoin angled foundation brush. I am interested in trying one of the natural hair fu-pa brushes, but I haven't gotten around to ordering one yet! I dab it on my face in spots and then blend with either of these. I know some people like to use a damp beauty blender for this and they get beautiful results with one.

      Sheila Dunbar I use the powder brush the most followed by the cheek brush and then the angled brush. I almost never use the eyeshadow brush- it is too big. When I use that one I usually use it for dusting powder under my eyes instead but it isn’t my favorite. The foundation brush I use more for buffing powders but I don’t use it that often since it is small. I use the powder and both blush brushes a lot.

      jhoheart74 yes, I have both brushes. The face one brush is about 2 to 2.5 times larger than the fox brush. That is the biggest difference but it is also a bit firmer. The bristles on the fox hair brush bend a little more easily during application. I think the face one is a little better at buffing because of this but the fox hair feels softer.

  • @finessence808
    @finessence808 4 роки тому

    I want these so bad, great review! Btw you can use the foundation brush with liquids. How it works it that shorter bristles give the resistance to use with creams and liquids, the longer the bristles the better it is for powders. It's the length and resistance that determines which application is best. I have a single fox brush and that's how the manufacturer explained it and it's just fine 😊👍.

    • @LexiJong
      @LexiJong  4 роки тому +2

      It is meant for powder foundation or powders in general. It should work well with mineral powder foundations. Some people probably use it with liquids but the hairs are so delicate that they may break more easily when cleaning liquids and creams from the bristles. I agree that it should be called something else - it can definitely be confusing. I think it should be called a buffing brush.

    • @finessence808

    • @LexiJong
      @LexiJong  4 роки тому

      @@Elizabeth-tm7xr All brushes (hair, paint, makeup) can be either natural hair or synthetic. In general, natural hair makeup brushes historically have a better grip on the products, are softer and easier on sensitive skin, and this can result in a more "flawless" looking application. Synthetic brushes are getting better but I still prefer natural hair at the moment.
      There are some natural hair brushes that are not cruelty free where the animals are harmed for their hair (either shearing them when it is not safe to do so or even killing them). These are typically cheaper brushes but not always. Japanese fude brushes are a work of art and have a long tradition and history in Japan. They are hand-crafted by people. From my understanding, these brushes that use cruelty-free animal hair, brush the animal and use the loose hairs that come out for the brushes. They are arranged by hand in the ferrules and the hairs are not cut. They are actually gathered and placed individually to get the tapered shape required. These brushes take a long time to make and have a higher price point. Some cheaper brushes will gather the hairs and cut them to produce the desired shape (synthetic does this too) which creates a blunter edge to the hair instead of the natural taper at end of each hair. This is another reason that the brushes perform a little differently. I hope this helps!
