The closed down ‘Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood Airport’

Drone flyover of the former Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood airport in South Yorkshire, which has been left abandoned since 2022. Shot on the DJI Mini 2 SE.
Brief background:
Doncaster airport opened in 2005 and is 6 miles south east of Doncaster. Before this, since 1915 it was known as RAF Finningley. Peel Group purchased the property in 1999 and the airport soon became a popular hub for both passengers and cargo. However in November 2022 the Peel Group closed the airport, stating that it was no longer commercially viable.
Seen here is the Avro Vulcan XH558, named ’Spirit of Great Britain’, which until its demise was the last remaining flying example of this Cold War era nuclear bomber aircraft. It last flew on the 28th October of 2015. Unless a group manages to save the aircraft, it appears this will be it’s final resting place before being dismantled.
It has stood abandoned ever since, however, there is hope that one day it will be recommissioned as an airport - rather than being turned into an industrial site.
Further Information:
The airspace around this former airport has been reverted to Class G (uncontrolled). The NFZ has been deactivated at time of flight upon application (DJI FlySafe). The runway is closed as denoted by the ‘X’ along the length of the runway. Pilot holds all relevant licenses and this feature was shot from a public place, and in now-unrestricted public airspace. The airports operations and all flights ceased in November 2022 with the runway and all buildings left abandoned. Numerous safety measures were put in place for this flight. Pilot was within visual line of sight at all times.

So much money was raised to get that Vulcan airworthy and to keep that Vulcan in the air, the very best example in the world and for it to just be sat outside is criminal!!!!!! Let alone the airport being closed, wtf is going on!!!!!

It was a tragedy shutting Robin Hoods airport. There was loads of money spend on infrastructure to gain access to this airport. The question is, why close such a good airport over Leeds/bradford which is prone to high winds and fog due to its proximity

my barnsley scout group went to an air show there in the 60s. william hartnel. doctor who and 2 daleks were there. we all met him. nice man.
