Aw, man. This guy was truly a tormented soul. All he wanted to do was play, and he was VERY good. Then BAM, arthritis. Very sad. Rock In Peace, my dude.
Nice heart felt tribute, Robert. I didn't know about Richard until a Wings Of Pegasus vid about 3 years ago. His take, "He's just a guy !!" Why pelt him ??? sad. Rest In Peace. Btw, i quit for two years between moves in '80 then eight years when work and family were more important, '88 to '94. Not a 'musician' but gigged in the mid '00s. Still fun sometimes ;)
Sad and he is in my prayers. It just emphasizes, try to get your music out there. It's up to us to keep the dream going no matter what you play. Keep it all alive and rocking. "See you on the other side" where my exact words I said when I was not sure if I would make it, before I went in for surgery a few years ago, so ya touched my heart.
R.I.P. Richard Benson. The way this guy was treated on stage, well it's just shitty--should never have happened. He was a true player.....to have arthritis in the hands and still play is a feat in itself. Great video.🎸👍
I only found out about Mr. Benson through the video that ole 'panic attack' put out. Which was sad. I did some research and found out what was available about him and man..... my heart just went out to the guy. RIP Richard. and thanks for great content Robert

Wonderful tribute. Truly a sad story, especially if you've watched any of the videos in his final years of "performing." Sad for him, but I think maybe sadder for the people that got so much pleasure treating him so poorly.
His story is so sad. I saw a video on him about ten years ago. As a person who has enjoyed playing guitar for over 40 years I can relate. There are a few times I injured my hands and couldn't play at all. It is a bitter pill to swallow. I don't really know about after life. But if there is one that dude deserves a good set of hands there.
Thank you for sharing this video and the very sad news. Salute and respect to Richard, Riff In Peace sir!🤘😎🙏 Finally he is in a realm of love, and no more bullying or suffering.
I have to sympathize with this Poor Man being inhibited to do what he was passionate about due to a debilitating physical ailment. It seems that people were having a laugh at his expense which was absolutely Wrong ! R.I.P. Richard Benson Condolences from Canada 🇨🇦

R.I.P. He wrote and recorded one tune that I'd like to cover one day, with my twin guitar-brother from Spain. Benson didn't deserve the ugly treatment he got :`( People were heartless!
Thank you for the info . Robert. I always thought that the people that threw things at him were actually the worse examples of indignant morality . They are loathsome , almost to the point of pity...almost. Ricards playing is honestly very bad at the later years. His family should have been more honest with him about how detrimental this has become to his image and maybe scaled back his set list to easier to play songs with his condition . I understand his point of view 100%, but he needed to be honest with himself , as well as friends that could be also. Respect to you, Mr. Benson... may you play pain free and Rest in Peace.....
You know, this guy was My Dad's Age. in fact, their birthdays were only about a week apart if I remember right. I think people forget this guy as a Teen, was in a band in the late '60s/early '70s that developed quite a following Europe. He like a lot of players from that period went from blues rock, psych rock, progressive then eventually he went the shredder route by the 1980s. Although He wasn't my style, He was a very accomplished Musician. People fail to realize He had literally over 50 years of musical history under his belt. Meaning, he was far more experienced than pretty much all of the people who gave him shit and made mock videos about him. like I said, this guy was literally old enough to be my Dad. So, I found it extremely cringe worthy that people my age and younger were seriously dissing this guy. Most of whom were also young enough to be one of Richard's Kids or a grand kid for that matter. It would be like Me ridiculing my own father. (who was also a very accomplished musician) I really have nothing but love and respect for Richard. The last decade of his life was a very, very sad one indeed. I'm sad to hear of his passing, although considering how bad his health was I can't say I wasn't expecting it. I'm glad you made this video. It's short, sweet and to the point. R.I.P Richard. Much love & respect to you.
Even at his peak I thought he was a fairly dire guitarist.......BUT......arthritis sucks, struggling to overcome that adversity, the Italian gameshows where he seemed to go out of his way to be humiliated......I doubt the "truth" of the situation will ever be fully revealed but it's a tragic end to a sad life.
He was one of the world’s most misunderstood shredders, unfortunately best known among Generation Z kids for being made fun of in a video by Steve Terreberry. I became an unironic fan of Benson within the past year, and I have to admit that his death shook me. Even more than Trevor Strnad's, I have to admit . He pushed through it all his health problems (not to mention several concerts full the aforementioned oblivious morons throwing food at him) like a true chad. Right to the end. A strong musician at heart. A true Briton and Italian.
Moving tribute, Robert! I really admire how authentic you are in this fake plastic youtube domain, if only we had more creators such as yourself on this site instead of gormless critters like stevie T...
There’s lots of creators on UA-cam who are great people. Pete Thorn, Alan Barnes, samuraiguitarist, Henning Pauly, Lucas Fowler, Guitar Max, Sean Pierce Johnson, Andy Ferris, Mike Hermans… I can go on for days. And even Stevie T isn’t a bad guy. He just made a mistake.
@@RobertWJackson than why is the shamefull video up still gaining him views ?...explain that as not a mistake?...he has not sincerely regreted it even after all this time,,even in death steve t will continue to shit on this mans legacy
We all get old and we all get ill at the end of our days. There are no guarantees in life accept for one thing, death. He was like a Timex watch, takes a beaten and keeps on repeating. Look at Les Paul's life. He played guitar up till the day he died and he was a very happy man. If you can die a happy man, that is a good life.
Yes I agree be respectful! This man deserves at least that! His country is terrible for doing that to this man. I know he could play guitar. And dang good at it and life throws that curve ball at us. And truly he wanted to go on with his career. Very poorly treated. By the people that came to see him. I would have never did that to him.
That's sad to hear. I felt for the guy. I've got my own set of health issues that make it tough for me to play. I haven't been out to play live for the past couple of years, but fortunately when I was, everybody was cool. I never had any hecklers at live shows. The same can't be said, unfortunately, for the videos that I post here. I do my best to try not to let it get me down, and to turn it around and turn it into productivity, but it can be a little tough sometimes. It's what I like to do, though. I have fun making and posting videos. I might play like garbage, but I'm still gonna play, dang it! 😅 Some people enjoy them, and the positive comments outweigh the negative. I'll take it.
Trolls are a sign of a good healthy channel, dude. The jealous assholes can’t stand it to not be heard, and that’s their way of taking out on other people who don’t deserve it. Don’t pay them any mine. It just means your channel is going just fine.
never cared. edit. this was the best I could say as he.. in all he went through could laugh at now. may he be in a better place and be jamming like never before.
Richard Benson kind of Reminds me of Glenn Tipton of the Mighty Judas Priest. He had to step down from touring due to the onset of Parkinson's Disease. Bur one of The Greatest Mwtal Guitarists.
Frkn ehhh kinda reason I still play. In 2015 got hit n run got elbow demolished. Nixed nylon replacement played two finger barre chords month later mfkn happy to play my unfiltered puke again at 95%
That's a shame, RIP Richard Benson. I really felt so bad for him, quite painfull to see some of his gigs where complete and utter morons are pelting him with stuff 😪😡
His arthritis and other health issues affected a lot more than just his guitar playing. It sent him into severe depression to the point that he even attempted suicide at one point.
There's no sympathy or bullshit in this industry- it's tough, you either make it or you don't- fans want a show, promoters want their money, producers want better talent to work with, and no one slows down to help you up if you fall- in fact, if they can sneak a kick in while you're down- they'll do it. That's the game- I didn't invent it so don't get angry at me- I get kicked pretty often myself. I know countless guys like myself who have played our whole lives, dedicated endless hours to learning theory and technique- and no one will ever know who we are. I've never had food thrown at me though- lol- not sure how I would handle that one. I've been booed off stage a couple times though- opening for the band ppl came to see means you catch a lot of shit. Ppl just want you to shut up and get off stage so their hero can come out. You work on lyrics for two solid weeks and come up with what you think is just going to blow everyone's mind- and they're so drunk and busy fighting with one another they don't even hear it. But- you didn't write it for them anyway- remember?
if you haven't checked out this video of Fil from Wings of Pegasis here's the link ua-cam.com/video/jmRYhWeBXN4/v-deo.html he is analyzing Richards playing and giving a bit of a history of him
Gotta put it behind you, my man. Forgiveness is liberating for those offering it. It doesn’t have anything to do with the other party that is receiving it. No question that video was wrong, and I spoke out about it at the time. But he’s an imperfect human being and it’s in his nature to make mistakes, just like the rest of us.
I always assumed he usto be a good player and then got to where he couldnt play good ...so tried to steer things more toward the food getting threw and all that as like a comic thing ...I mean why would a club owner put a guitarist that is not really musicly great on and pay them ,,unles it was a act ... I dont think we will ever truely know .. I do know for fact at one point he was a good if not very good guitarist . Something happened there for a few years that is kind of lost and debated
That part isn’t debated. He developed severe arthritis in his hands that crippled him to the point of not being able to play anymore. When that happened, it sent him into a downward spiral of depression to the point that he even attempted suicide at one point. There’s numerous reports of his wife and children in tears while watching his performances from the side of the stage as people threw food at him. There was nothing comedic about any of this. He was a guitar player with a really sad story who continued to play, despite his disabilities, because he’d felt that he’d lost everything else and music was all he had left.
He seems deranged...definitely not of sound mind. Sure..I've got arthritis as well, but can still tune my guitar's and play! It is sad to watch him go through his concerts? Anyway...RIP
He became famous in Italy by clowning around on Tv and acting all nihilistic and cursing people left and right. When you become famous by fooling around it's almost as if you HAVE to continue if you want to be successful
@@RobertWJackson Nevermind. I saw that video the fake channel posted and I thought you were really a politician but it seems it was a taken out of context video
Nobody is saying you should be come a fan, but it doesn’t matter how good of a guitar player he was or wasn’t. The point is he still trudged on for his love of music despite so many lowlife people wrongly mistreating him for no reason.
He wasn’t bad, he was physically disabled and it crippled his ability to play guitar. He was once very good. Way to shit all over a grieving family. 🖕🏼
He was a terrible musician before he had physical problems. He may have played it like a machine gun but his lines were always terrible in my opinion. I'd still rather listen to the Shaggs. I'm not shittinhon anyone, I seriously doubt I know anyone that would like his playing, it's extremely amateurish.
It’s too bad. But he is no different than an athlete who gets too old to perform. When you can’t do it anymore it’s time to quit. Publicly at least. Lest face the inevitable humiliation that comes with incompetence.
He wasn’t incompetent, he was physically disabled. And who the fuck are you to tell anybody what they should or shouldn’t be doing when it comes to things they’re passionate about? Way to shit on a grieving family, asshole. 🖕🏼

Rip to a legend. I recently lost my vision and I am totally blind , I still play guitar cause its in my blood and I love it
God be with you stay brave my heart goes out to you keep 🪨 rocking!
He was a sweet sweet guy, in a way words can not say. He was funny and he was a kind of mistery. RIP Richard.
Benson does have one of the saddest stories I have heard.
his legacy will live on. we're devastated for his loss, all we can do is thank him for what he did. rip Richard
I had seen some of his last videos before he passed, and the shocker was that he was actually looking better and played better too, albeit on a classical guitar. I hope he was at peace, and enjoyed doing what he loved!
Richard Benson,Thank you for the inspiration,Rip Brother...Thank you Robert.
Much respect to Richard and his legacy. May you rest in Peace my friend! Deepest sympathies to your family and friends.
Way to go Dawn!!!!
R.I.P. Richard Benson. The way this guy was treated on stage, well it's just shitty--should never have happened. He was a true player.....to have arthritis in the hands and still play is a feat in itself. Great video.🎸👍
May the people that came to taunt and poke fun at him rot in hell.
I only found out about Mr. Benson through the video that ole 'panic attack' put out. Which was sad. I did some research and found out what was available about him and man..... my heart just went out to the guy. RIP Richard. and thanks for great content Robert
Did not know of him Robert but I feel bad 4 anyone who has to suffer in the way it stops U from doing what U love, I have also suffered for years very much, chronic Pain is real hell and unless u have had it or have it,,, it's hard 2 relate!! May God Bless his family and friends with their loss, and TY Robert 4 bringing this Guitar man's life to lite, Rest in peace,,,
Rest in peace brother...😔🙏✋✌
Great tribute to the man Robert and RIP Richard Benson
No more suffering. R.I.P.
🙏🏼
R.I.P. Richard Benson! 💖🎸
I have to sympathize with this Poor Man being inhibited to do what he was passionate about due to a debilitating physical ailment. It seems that people were having a laugh at his expense which was absolutely Wrong ! R.I.P. Richard Benson Condolences from Canada 🇨🇦
Very sad to hear that.
RIP.
His story is really a sad one.
This is a great loss. I made a recorded tribute to Richard Benson. On my branch in the video channel.
Having Rheumatoid arthritis myself all I can say is get treatment as soon as possible get a rheumatologist the treatments now are wonderful and can prevent permanent damage even though I can't walk well and suffer from chronic pain I can still play Benson is truly a tragic case and my heart goes out to you Robert 😢 I can see you are sad about this and hope you eventually feel better
Sad
R.I.P.
R.I.P.
Oh no, I was just looking him up to check how he was doing. Such a shame! RIP
Yup. Sad story. RIP
RIP man.
I knew from age 9 guitar was for me! Unfortunately my unsupportive parents disagreed! Guitars and misfortune kept me from full time musician! Been playing 40yrs!For last 22yrs playing is all I do! Unfortunately I'm 64 to late now! Thanks!
So sad REST IN PEACE
So brutal. Sorry to hear it. RIP Richard Benson
Richard Benson was a rocker thru and thru...he was a fellow artist that did more for music than any of you haters, your jealous that his crappy playing had more feeling and BALLS to it than ANYTHING you sit in your bedroom and play...people know Richard Benson..whether they think he's a good player or crappy player..its ALL ABOUT GETTING YOUR NAME OUT THERE....MISSION ACCOMPLISHED RICHARD REST IN PEACE BRO TELL LEMMY AND DIME I SAID WHATS UP...YOU ARE NOW AN OFFICIAL ROCK LEGEND........
If nothing else, he was unique. A true one off.
Dang! Just like that, He's gone.
Its not his music skill that impresses me ,. . . .its his unwillingness to give up music
RIP
❤❤❤
R.I.P. Richard Benson.
I can’t believe that Im hearing this devastating news 😢 RIP Richard Benson
Even at his peak I thought he was a fairly dire guitarist.......BUT......arthritis sucks, struggling to overcome that adversity, the Italian gameshows where he seemed to go out of his way to be humiliated......I doubt the "truth" of the situation will ever be fully revealed but it's a tragic end to a sad life.
He was one of the world’s most misunderstood shredders, unfortunately best known among Generation Z kids for being made fun of in a video by Steve Terreberry.
I became an unironic fan of Benson within the past year, and I have to admit that his death shook me. Even more than Trevor Strnad's, I have to admit
@@AndyX *then
*shameful

*man’s
We all get old and we all get ill at the end of our days. There are no guarantees in life accept for one thing, death. He was like a Timex watch, takes a beaten and keeps on repeating. Look at Les Paul's life. He played guitar up till the day he died and he was a very happy man. If you can die a happy man, that is a good life.
As far as I can tell you're the only channel that has acknowledged this so far. I wonder if Stevie T will have anything to say now?
🤷🏻♂️
He's already shown and admitted regret for his past attitudes for Richard benson. Idk if he's said anything about his death though
StevieT apologized for his video around a year ago. It's in his "Regrets" video.
@@RobertWJackson Thanks for the kind words and encouragement!
never cared.
edit. this was the best I could say as he.. in all he went through could laugh at now.
may he be in a better place and be jamming like never before.
@@castleanthrax1833 because I can I have a God given right to my thoughs.. and how would you know what never cared to me means anyway?
@@castleanthrax1833 ok prove it then I will believe you in your silly own self thought tiny brain.
Nixed nylon replacement played two finger barre chords month later mfkn happy to play my unfiltered puke again at 95%
Poor guy got so much negative attention and for all the wrong reasons. Rest in Peace Richard.
He was my master no way xD
if you haven't checked out this video of Fil from Wings of Pegasis here's the link ua-cam.com/video/jmRYhWeBXN4/v-deo.html he is analyzing Richards playing and giving a bit of a history of him
I don’t think I’ll ever forgive Stevie T for what he did to this man. May he Rest In Peace.
That's how I discovered Benson. My understanding is that ST thought that getting booed was deliberate, a sort of performance art.
His last track has just been released:
ua-cam.com/video/klIb-APGdWQ/v-deo.html
RIP never heard of him though
If you listen to His album from 1971 he was indeed a good guitarist.
ua-cam.com/video/FARoJvBHAUo/v-deo.html
Ok ..I knew he had been pretty good at one point . I knew nothing about the whole food throwing and stuff till recent ..
Never heard of him. Just sayin
k
He seems deranged...definitely not of sound mind. Sure..I've got arthritis as well, but can still tune my guitar's and play! It is sad to watch him go through his concerts? Anyway...RIP
He became famous in Italy by clowning around on Tv and acting all nihilistic and cursing people left and right. When you become famous by fooling around it's almost as if you HAVE to continue if you want to be successful
Wait, are you a politician Robert?
Huh?
@@RobertWJackson Nevermind. I saw that video the fake channel posted and I thought you were really a politician but it seems it was a taken out of context video
I could not take his playing seriously.
Nobody is saying you should be come a fan, but it doesn’t matter how good of a guitar player he was or wasn’t. The point is he still trudged on for his love of music despite so many lowlife people wrongly mistreating him for no reason.
@@RobertWJackson OK...my opinion.
@@Zettel9016 Brilliant!! I guess we can agree to disagree....but I will refrain from name calling.
Lol, this guy was beyond bad. I put the Shaggs above him.
I'm not shittinhon anyone, I seriously doubt I know anyone that would like his playing, it's extremely amateurish.
k
It’s too bad. But he is no different than an athlete who gets too old to perform. When you can’t do it anymore it’s time to quit. Publicly at least. Lest face the inevitable humiliation that comes with incompetence.
He wasn’t incompetent, he was physically disabled. And who the fuck are you to tell anybody what they should or shouldn’t be doing when it comes to things they’re passionate about? Way to shit on a grieving family, asshole. 🖕🏼
R.I.P Richard Benson...
