    And who wins every time? Who gets paid no mater who wins?
    The lawyers.
    So of course they appeal, and counter, etc.

    Think about it like this too, if dean ultimately wins would they be entitled to loss of sales and manufacturing costs of not being able to make, sell, promote and distribute the v and z guitars since the initial verdict? Could cost gibson a little more than 4k this time around

    An interesting related item is the recent legal stuff between Gibson and PRS. And guess what???? Part of it is about that weird guitar you mentioned! (the Theodore). It was named after Ted McCarty, and oops, PRS sort of owns MCCarty stuff now. But anyway, PRS said they would stop suing over the Theodore if Gibson gave up some of their bullshit suits. Win win! :D

    The owners of Gibson are the slimiest bastards i've ever seen. If you want a Gibson, a fkn Dean is not going to change your mind, and considering how long Dean has been making these models it's ridiculous. The original Gibson owners didn't care for a reason, they knew it didn't impact them at all. If you're in the market to buy a Porsche, the Hyundai dealership on the way there probably isn't getting your business.

    I pull for the underdog, and I like Dean guitars. I've had several since the early 80's, and I've had Gibson's. So - no dog in the fight.

    This all nonsense. No other industry stops others from stealing popular body styles. It is hardly obvious all cars look more similar than different. The same with phones and other electronic goods. Add to that patents do not last for decades. Ask the Canadian guy who invented the cell phone in the 50's that no one wanted.

    And actually if you go on Dean's website and I've seen a couple of ads for their vengeance models or something of that nature they do sell V's and Z's

    • @guitarplayer232
      @guitarplayer232 2 місяці тому

      Correct, but there are no classic v or z shapes that came out in 1979. The guitars they offer as of right now are actually the z and v shapes that dave mustaine used to endorse.

      Those are actually different shapes than the Z and the V. They’re similar, but the angles are a lot sharper, which is how those models avoided the lawsuit. The Z and the V are dead ringers for the Explorer and the Flying V.

    There was a change of active ceo at dean guitars. I think Evan Rubinson totally mishandled the court case and lost it. Now his mother is in charge and shes bringing dean guitars back. She's even suing her own son for embezzlement. Evan was also the one that lost a bunch of artist endorsements the big names being dimebag darrell and dave mustaine.

    I'm a Jackson man myself. I do have a Gibson and I have a couple of deans I have a Les Paul of course everybody has to have a Les Paul I have a Dean Cadillac and a Dean ML and a Dean Dave mustaine v and they are far superior than my overpriced Les Paul.

  • @I.am_Groot

    I never felt the headstock should be all that mattered and Dean is currently doing what makes sense. Make the product different enough its not a 'copy' and it should be legal. The other part of it is acting quickly. Waiting decades to bring action defeats the argument its a legal term doctrine of laches. So on some level Gibson is 'right' but the only justified action to me at this point is have other companies stop direct copies and make the shapes different enough then move on. Nobody owes Gibson money and I continue to believe the litigation in large part is a move to keep the conversation around the brand OFF their past issues and 'same old stuff' complaints. Most of the people mad at the lawsuits were probably not customers anyway at least on the new market.

    The V the Explorer and the modern were invented in 1958. Why don’t you Google it 1977 they re-introduced them in 77 that doesn’t give you a excuse to repeated it

    • @dw7704
      @dw7704 2 місяці тому

      Gibson re-issued the Flying V in the 60s, the Explorer was re-issued in 76, and the Moderne was issued for the first time by Gibson in 82. But the Moderne isn’t part of the dispute.
      That doesn’t change anything else, just clarifying years.
      It seems to be a case of waiting too long.

    I have to disagree. I've been playing for creeping up on 40 years. I own Gibson, Gretsch, Jackson, Paul Reed Smith. One of my favorites is an Epiphone Jerry Cantrell LP because it came in Bone White and the quality is great... every bit as good as my Gibson 68 Standard. Protecting intellectual property is fine but, it doesn't matter one bit unless you're producing a high quality product. Along the way I've also acquired and disposed of a few guitars that looked real nice and visually could compared with a fine instrument until an experienced musician got their hands on them. Then you realized that quality wasn't there. Musicians talk. If a guitar company is producing the finest quality instrument, their product will be in demand. If they have to sue someone else to stay on top because their product isn't able to speak for itself, there are bigger problems than intellectual property.

    Gibson should just dry up and die , Ill never buy a Gibson or play " Authentic " like that Jack Wagon says.
    At one time I wanted a SG ( EB0 ) bass a few years ago they were about $1000 then $1499 soon ater $1799. Now they are $1999 for a one trick pony bass . Ill stick with Rickenbacker , Fender, Sandberg and G&L😅

    There’s millions of violins, cellos and so on all made by different people but all the same structure same shape for hundreds of years, there’s only one way to make a flute no one has said a word.millions of acoustic guitars all the same shape hundreds of years. NO ONE!! The entire guitar world and world of law need to tell Gibson to shut the F up and there needs to be a serious cease and desist.

    Silly as Gibsons patent does not cover outside America...Gibson did not invent the LP style guitar, no way...their headstock is not originaly their design either..check the history of electric guitars...Fender & Gibson both used other peoples headstock designs..Gibson are to old fashioned, never listen to anyone...the QC is better but for the price still pretty bad...Gibson were bought up by Zounds, it ain't just theirs anymore...i hope Dean win as well...

      They may not have been the first, but they were the first to trademark those things, and legally that’s all that matters.
