      this is a FICTIONAL movie. You can watch a fictional movie with aliens and superheroes, but not one with CA and TX working together? lol.

    I would wonder if the politics all lean one way. Most people dont consider that in america we have a wide spread of ideas and motivations. Some folks seem to want to demonize a very large group of people, and forget that they are actually people.

    Love Garland films. Ex Machina rulez! If it's half as good as 28 days later then it'll still be fuckin awesome. Cailee Spaeney is in this? did'nt even recognise her - she's Priscilla right?

    A friend wants me to go see this with her but, frankly, it looks too intense and realistic to me, already considerably shellshocked by real life politics here in the US. Your review confirms that. Maybe after the election i could handle it better - depending on the outcome.

    The film trades on the Left's fantasy of impending civil war in the US - where the other side appears to be the masses who disagree with them. In this confused mess of a film, Texas and California are one side. Most of America in the center has wisely decided to pass on this war, leaving us wondering what the bozos on the East Coast are fighting over - which, spoiler alert - is never described. Chalk this up to the faux Profundity that in war, reason fades and simple violence takes over? Wow. Most of the flick is a road trip of 4 war journalists who get into harrowing escapes, except they foolishly get themselves into these situations. So much for experienced war journalists. Then there is this utterly predictable trope of how covering wars corrodes one's emotional foundations. As if this one has not been worked over in several films. Anyway, there is this Oedipal struggle between the older female war photographer and the young aspiring female war photographer, which is resolved by a plot development so predictable that there could have been cue cards added. Lots of guns and shooting and explosions at the end. Somebody wins...or something. A disturbing and timely political movie? At best, a trite and second rate action film

    • @LukeHearfield
      @LukeHearfield  3 місяці тому

      Yeah she’s pretty good in this. Very understated performance from her. But everybody is good.
      Her husband (Plemmons) steals the film I’d say x

    • @heretics25
      @heretics25 3 місяці тому

      @@LukeHearfield I mean he steals a scene because it's a scenery-chewing scene & he's always great. But she's the vehicle for the film's themes! I have actually seen it lol, I can't wait for others to. I thought she was fantastic, and surprisingly (high bar) I think...one of her very best. I was happy to see that even the most negative reviews highlighted her because I do think the depth in her performances *makes* the film.

      Sorry if you found it spoilery - that was not my intention. Just so I don’t repeat the same mistakes in the future what about this vid did you consider a spoiler? I didn’t think I had any in it but sometimes different people find things spoilery which other don’t. Any feedback you can give would be appreciated. I only got half way through your video but you were giving all the actual story beats away, I'm going to see the film next weekend (after the release date) and would be happy to discuss finer details in a Have Seen It review as opposed to a Go See It review. (Film Threat are good at telling the difference). Cheers Again.

    All the reviews seem to read, "Well, it's provocative, but it really isn't. But it is..."
    "The movie aims to open a discussion and a dialogue between people of all walks of life" - Comments section closed.
    From what I gather, the "cause" of the conflict isn't really touched upon because it has been raging for a while and we are witnessing the end of it all, so to rehash it would be unrealistic in-movie, and that I can appreciate. I just hope it isn't a lecture.
