    Mark Hollis was the main vocalist and visionary of Talk Talk. Highly principalled, an artist with deep integrity who shunned the spotlight and industry expectations. There's a sincerity and vulnerability to the vocals and their works as a whole. As others have stated their next two albums are creative, ethereal masterworks that defy categorization, deeply layered. (both of which have risen far beyond cult status). This got them in deep contention with their respective record labels.
    BTW, that swirling organ heard on Living in another World was played by rock royalty Steve Winwood.
    Further recommended Talk Talk tracks :
    * After the Flood, Runeii, Wealth, The Rainbow.
    Mark released one self-titled album post Talk Talk (in 1998). It too is beyond categorization. A timeless, minimalistic, fragile masterpiece as well. Recommended tracks from that album :
    * The Daily Planet
    * The Colour of Spring
    R.I.P. to Mark Hollis who unexpectedly passed away this week (Feb. 26, 2019), leaving his close family behind, and is now indeed Living in another World.

    Talk Talk's evolution:
    First album "The Party's Over": Pure 80s synthpop
    Second album "It's My Life": Still synthpop but there's something there, lurking under the surface
    Third album "The Colour Of Spring" (where this track comes from): Pop-ish but a track or two allows that "something" hinted at previously to break out
    Fourth album "Spirit Of Eden": Oh my god, what... ? (But in a good way---that "something" is now emerging in all the tracks; there is beauty here but considering it's still the 80s, the style feels completely out of place)
    Fifth album "Laughing Stock": Fuck me, it's loose, it's loose! (This is a difficult album to categorise; now there's zero remains of the early-80s sound and instead there's an intensity and rawness that is the exact opposite of synthpop)
    Mark Hollis (lead singer and writer throughout) then released a solo album which was, basically, a continuation of the 5th album's unique sound.
    One of my favourite bands because of this incredible progression.

      I agree but the last track on colour of spring lead to the evolution of spirit of Eden and laughing stock which I think Thom Yorke of Radiohead got his ideas from. .. although living in another world is a bit poppy that harmonica by Mark Hollis is brilliant. ..I have asked him to react to desire from spirit of Eden which he will then see the evolution of talk talk and probably how Radiohead happened.

    • @montag4516

      Ariadne, agreed. The chronological progression, artistic progression and integrity is quite remarkable. As well as Mark's self titled album, his swan song to the industry and the listening world.
      It was Mark Feltham who played the stellar harmonica part on Living in another World. And the swirling Hammon organ was played by rock royalty Steve Winwood.
      R.I.P. to Mark Hollis who unexpectedly passed away this week on Feb. 26, 2019.

      Nicely described. I really only listened to them properly in the last few years and they are truly one of those ‘timeless’ bands whose music still feels fresh and vibrant....R.I.P Mark.

      Just true artists can go through that i guess. Most of them just sell themselves to the market while others continue doing similar stuff (like some metal bands), but nothing new nor original. In that way, i like to appreciate talk talk as a whole rather than periods. It's like the way of life i wish i could aspire to.

    Could you react to Talk Talk's The Rainbow? The progression of this band from The Party's Over through to Laughing Stock is simply breathtaking. For me Spirit Of Eden is my favourite. The Rainbow is the opening track of that album.

    Listen to tracks from Talk Talk’s Laughing Stock. It’s one of the most beautiful albums ever made - FAR better than this song or anything else on The Colour of Spring. Talk Talk went through a massive evolution in its sound over the course of the 80s and Laughing Stock in ‘91 is their magnum opus once that sound was fully developed. This is not them at their best.

      The colour of spring is a masterpiece but so are spirit of Eden and laughing stock. .... laughing stock took the evolution of talk talk even further but spirit of Eden was made in 1988. ..no other album was made in the eighties like it. ..these dudes were way ahead musically than any other band at the time and later Radiohead to some extent copied them. But yes colour of spring is a terrific album where they combined synth pop and post rock to come...

    First time I hear this song (like a lot of times, with you, I discover music that is new to me).
    This song sounds nice, but nothing really special. It sounds like so much other songs from the 80's (I don't know from when the song is, it just sounds like the 80's).
    Of course, it is only my personal taste, no one has to agree with me...
