      I never realised it was so simple to make. I wonder are their simple celtic symbols one could make in similar fast simple ways. Have you ever tried?

    I am so excited to not only learn this to utilize the Willow that came down in a storm but also to learn from Éire! I’ve been leaning into my ancestry from here in the Northeastern US, and I have a feeling that I will be doing a lot of creating, utilizing your tutorials. Míle buíochas!

    Thank you so much for sharing this video! I have made Brigid's crosses the past few years for Imbolc out of different materials (we don't have much reed here but I have used red osier dogwood, brown ash, and long grass stems). I saw your willow Brigid's crosses on Instagram this year and they are so beautiful with the God's eye bindings--I had not seen that before and I am looking forward to trying it. I'm heading out now to harvest willow cuttings from an old and ailing tree that recently fell in the woods. I know they will shrink and loosen as they dry, but it is so pleasant to weave with fresh willow--I can't resist!

    Hi Hannah! Happy Solstice! I harvested some willow here in the mountains of California for the first time today, it was a lovely sensory experience. I was going to make St Brigid's crosses for my loved ones but found the fresh willow to be too supple and slippery, for lack of better terms. Now i think I'll dry this willow and attempt the crosses next year. Is it ok to dry the willow inside my heated house? Will it dry too fast? Thank you for this beautiful gift that you share with us, i love your videos and the music and the way you teach 😊🧡🍂⛰️🌰

      You can certainly dry your willow in your house. They will dry and keep well. Once fully dried soak them to make the rods flexible for weaving. Much love H

      @@HannaVanAelst Thank you so much! I finally made one, the soaking took much longer than I expected because I had to saok in pool in a cold mountain stream, but it was a lovely place to visit every day. I made the Brigid's cross, it came out pretty well! Thank you for sharing your skill.

    Lovely video, Hannah! I wonder what time of year you harvest your willow for weaving? I have been discovering where I can pick wild willow in my area on the British Columbia, West coast of Canada. What type of willow do you use? Happy Imbolc to all; my first year celebrating with my Celtic roots. 💖🔥💖😊

  • @naturalwitchery

    The willow is pre- dried?

    • @HannaVanAelst
      @HannaVanAelst  3 роки тому +2

      Yes the willow is dried fully before soaking it again to make it pliable. If fresh it will shrink leaving the work lose.
