- Which one do you prefer: Clog2 or Flog2? And were you shocked like me, that the skin tones are very very close between the two?
I'm really enjoying using the Fujifilm XH2s as my B cam to the Canon C70. And in some cases, like I mentioned, I like the shots out of the Fuji more.

I just realized the reason why they match well might be because the XH2s has a 14bit sensor readout in 6k (most prosumer cameras have 12bit) and the c70 has a dual gain sensor

The full frame look is something I enjoy, but I do find Fuji more intuitive and easy to use. But I have been using Fuji for years.

Haha FX3 and XH2 are totally different cameras. One is all video and the other is hybrid. I just picked up an FX3 myself. It doesn’t seem impressive immediately but it’s powerful. That dual native ISO is insane for low light. SLog3 grades very very well. The most recent footage we’ve gotten out of it has been beautiful.

I don't know why people find it hard to accept that the Fuji is better than the R5C.
So far, there's no other prosumer mirrorless with a stacked sensor that does 14bit readout on video. The C70 does a dual 14bit readout so, it makes total sense they're both are comparable.
Not to mention the incredible rolling shutter performance. Maybe even better than the C70.
The R5C is good but not worthy of that C... Maybe it's a C of Crippled as Canon likes to do.

People find it hard to believe because they don't want to believe it. How dare an "inferior" APSC camera be better than a full frame camera! People look at Fuji as the "little brother" of cameras but forget that he will grow up some day.
Have you tried to match it with Sony log3? And what if to use the same lut (for example Phantom lut) for both cameras , Canon and Fuji. Will it match?
I used the Phantom LUTs for these two cameras. I’m about to test with Sony, as I just snagged a FX3 😎
One question?what did you use to match flog and clog? Or it was Color space transformer in DaVinci?

Interesting. I’m a C70 user and have been curious about the XH2s. I do prefer the C70 in every example here, just more organic and I prefer a softer look, but as you say the colour is pretty close all things considered. Can I ask if you are adapting EF glass for the Fuji? Or have you purchased separate lenses? If you’re adapting glass does the autofocus work? The fast readout and built in ProRes makes the Fuji quite a nice offering.
All things considered, the Fuji has a beautiful look in video. I think it’s softer than a lot are giving it credit. Currently I am adapting EF glass since I have a lot of it. I’m using the Fringer EF to XF adapter with AF. It does work really well. Some lenses better than others, but I find my 50mm and 18-35mm work really well with it. I do plan to purchase the XF 16-55mm f2.8. It’s probably one of the best native lenses available.
@@TrentErwin I used both, and the Canon C70 is definitely softer, more "filmic". The XH2s has great colors and also great dynamic range, but you can clearly see it's coming from a mirrorless . It's the sharpest image that I ever color graded, and I shot with a tons of cameras including Arri and Red. I think a lot of people are confusing Sharpness with details, here with the Fuji, there is sharpening added in camera that you can't completely turn off, and that's what I don't really like unfortunately. But it's still a great image, for those who like the "clean look" (not my taste personally) . If I had to pick a XH2s it will be more for the photo side (love the emulation film they provide).
I've been really wanting to check out the X-H2S. It just seems like such a beast of a camera. I don't know how well the shots match (the high angle shot with the coffee mug seemed to me the closest), but I can believe that the C-Log 2 and 3 from the two Canon cameras also don't match too well. I remember seeing comparisons of the R6 to other contemporary Canons and how different its colors were. Anyway, fun comparison and thanks for sharing
Most of the shots with people/skin matched very well. Some didn’t need any adjustment. Some had slight tint shifts and then was pretty much it. They matched better than I thought two different brands would.

some differences like sharpness cannot be directly compared because different lenses were used which will impact these attributes.

may i ask on the xh2s how did you set the white balance ? just kalvin or auto or custom because i always get a green shift when i set it with kalvin FLOG2

what is the lens you are running on the XH2s sitting next to you? looks like an adapted full frame?
It’s the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 EF. It’s a cropped sensor lens. One of the best zooms for Super 35 sensors.

The X-H2S is really a great camera! In my usage, I always found it has LOADS of dynamic range. It's not only very aesthetically pleasing, but also very practical as a primary outdoor, 'run-and-gun' videographer.
In these shots, I found out that indoors, the Canon has a more pleasing texture. More soft, which makes it feel more 3D and rich. Outdoors I much preferred the Fuji in 90% of the time. The C70 had too little detail in comparison, reminding me a bit of softness of the Canon 600D I had back in the day. Sometimes the shots look even out of focus. The Fuji looks more punchy which gives more character to the shots in my book.
Also, on the colour side I preferred the Canon in some shot indoors, but overall I found the Fuji much nicer. The contrast is better, and also the colors are a bit more 'surprising'. The Canon shot looks warm and cohesive, but also a bit conservative and bland. The (outdoor) Fuji files look like there's much more going on in them color-wise. And yes, the skin tones are extremely close!
Yeah the XH2s really shines outdoors. You can turn the sharpness all the way down to lose that look in XH2s or use a bloom or mist filter to cut through some as well. Either way, you can't go wrong with it for video.

Does the Fuji shoots raw, if so how does the raws from these cameras match up? I find it really hard to believe the fuji is a better video camera than the R5. When you say that it's a better video camera, you have to take everything into consideration. My R5 video capabilities are just ridiculously good...Auto focus that rarely misses, Full frame 4 & 8K raw, up to 8 stops of image stabilizer, amazing AF Tracking,... Is there anyway you can make these files available for download? I feel like this may be an exposure and grading difference
The Fuji doesn't shoot RAW. It shoots up to ProRes HQ, which is very nice. I was testing here in ProRes 422.
To me it's better than the R5 in these ways: more dynamic range (most important to me), doesn't overheat in higher bit rate recording, a great log profile in FLog 2, very good auto focus (same performance as I got with the R5, and a few times better), the option for Open Gate 6K recording (3:2 ratio for more info than 16:9, which is great for social content to keep things horizontal as well). Image stabilization is good but I'm not a big IBIS shooter because I either go straight to a gimbal for these cams or I go handheld with my C70 which doesn't have IBIS. Just learned I don't really need it.

@@mcsnapples exactly, yes I said that above -- the Fuji has better dynamic range than the R5. I totally agree that Fuji, Panasonic and Blackmagic all have incredible cameras for far less than Canon and Sony. But Canon and Sony have some very great cameras as well (FX3 for example).

They are pretty close. Canon ironically feels like it has more green tint to the image. I feel like most ppl should be shooting a color checker chart and mitigate most of these problems tho. Especially if you edit in davinci resolve.. Even within the same brands and technically same sensor's you'll see discrepancies. ie sony fx6 as an A cam w/ fx3 as B cam. It's just good practice and minimizes time in post.
It’s definitely best practice and easier to work within post, no doubt. Just wanted to take an objective look at both profiles straight up.

There seems to be more sharpness in the Fuji footage over the Canon footage.
There definitely is and the Fuji sharpness was even turned down to -2 during these tests. Depends on the need, but you can turn it down more and add a mist or bloom filter for softer looks.
@@TrentErwin I thought the level of Fuji sharpness was quite nice, not overly sharp but still a nice crispness to the image.
People are really sleeping on fuji. Sensor size is NOT everything!

sorry but even on your footage we can clearly see the digital look of the fuji (overly sharp like every other mirorless ) and the highlight roll-off is quite a bit more brutal. The fuji is good for basic videography but if you want a more organic look the C70 will give you that. Also when you operates a real cinema camera wit all the right tools ( waveform, 10 stops ND filters, RAW ST, XLR etc) there's no coming back. This kind of vid is pretty useless imo. It's like people comparing iphone to mirorless cam to be honest. 2 different worlds.
Haha sorry it bothered you. I wasn’t saying the XH2s is a cinema camera. Yes I love having internal NDs, XLR, and false color on the C70. But I didn’t buy the XH2s to be another “cinema” cam. I am impressed by how good it looks next to the C70 in most conditions, and that’s the point of this video 🤘🏼 (also the Fuji was on -2 sharpness for this)
