For an almost 100 year old film, the acting is the best I have ever seen. Today’s films don’t compare to the past
An 80 year old movie as good as new. Amazing.
Bette davis was hands down the best actress of her generation
Restoration at its best. The restoration of Technicolor is just soooo amazing. Well done Warner Bros. .
Finally, my prayers are answered and I can throw the wretched 2005 DVD away! Thank you WB! This film was one of the glories of the old 3-strip technicolor process and deserves its restoration. And then, there is Korngold's magnificent 'techniclor' score matching every fabulous frame. I can hardly wait for its release!!!
i think i still have the key video that had the Elizabeth the queen title hacked into it. talk about ugly.
I wish Criterion would add it
My favourite color film of Bette Davis, I have this on DVD and very well surprised with this HD version, such an excellent period drama this is
Amazing cinematography!!
Excellent movie, cast, score, everything! Bette Davis played the heck out of this role! She is still much beloved.
_A king in petticoats_ And with that witty put down, his fate was sealed.
Absolutely stunning, will be getting this version when released to go with the original that I have already.

🤩😁😁😁😁😁😁🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Flynn’s beloved dog Arno ( after seeing his master getting “attacked”) rushed on set and promptly bit Bette Davis' ankle.
2:32 I think the slap was genuine
Can you please make this video able to buy on UA-cam please.
❤👍🌎
Why was it so hard for some American actors to nail down a standard English accent? I'm not necessarily talking about regional dialects like Scouse or Mancunian, but something close to Received Pronunciation. The transatlantic inflections are all too evident in this dialogue. They should have cast English acting talent for the principal roles.
Just skip it and have yourself some entertainment.
Flora Robson was the BEST at playing a Queen IMO.
Flynn was born in Australia and parents were of Irish, English and Scottish descent. And he worked in Northampton and London before he made it big in Hollywood.
And imagine not casting Bette Davis when given the chance.
@@thetramp123 Yes. He also went to a private boarding school in London for several years.
@thebeatnumber - Don't want to appear overly pedantic, but the English accent that we recognize today has barely been around for a century; actually, about the late 19th century. In the late 16th century, the period of this film, the accent would have been unrecognizable to all but English language historians or researchers. Having actors fake a modern English accent for a late Renaissance film set in England is not much worse than casting a British actor for the role. So, does it really matter? I think quality of the talent is of greater importance.
