I fell in love with Rev when the spoilers for jumpstart came out, and this video was super helpful in theorycrafting for my new deck! Shout-out to the guy who submitted this!
Mitch, I am overjoyed to see your deck techs/builds again! I would like to point out Dauthi Voidwalker is/was a choice rare with shadow from MH2 which is pretty recent, as well as a single plane and single creature in Dr. Who. Prior to that we got some reprints in TSR in 2021 (even though the copyright says 2020, due to shipment delays) and then we jump back to 2006 for Time Spiral block for “new” shadow cards. I’ve been playing for decades and didn’t know the first strike tech. That’s wild! Thank you for sharing it!
Dauthi Embrace.....Enchantment that lets you pay BB to give any creature shadow, use as many times as you have the Mana available. for a non-budget upgrade
one of the few things i would change about this deck: replace dreamstone headron with thran dynamo. that way you're paying 2 mana less to cast, while still able to tap the mana rock for 3 colorless
I have a question, I wanted to proxy it to see how it was, nice deck, only then a controversy arose if you can say so. the card says: whenever one or more creatures you control deal combat damage to a player; if I attack with two creatures two different players it triggers once because I have to follow one or more, or deco follow the single dj ro a player and therefore it activates twice?
So let’s say I exile some cards with Rev, do they go away at the end of the turn like Ragavan? Or I’ll forever have them to cast? What happens if Rev dies? Do all the cards that I exiled with her go away?
one question tho, this commander is mono black (obviously) and the text doesnt say you can use mana as if were of any color to cast the card you exile face down with her ability. Meaning if you do exile cards from the top of any player library unless the cards are black, you cant cast them, am i right? Because even if you do make tresures with her, you cant produce colors that are not of your commander identity, right? If is like that then this sucks, unless you are playing with bunch of mono blacks or at least 2 color decks that have single black cards. Am i right?
@@woopertrainer ooo yea i see, dam that i didnt know. I imagined for example tresures could produce black since well thats the color identity if this commander, seem is not that way. Good to know
@@xNemesiSxPR Yeah, treasures are "Tap, sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color". So doesn't matter if you run the colors or not, you can still produce them.
@@xNemesiSxPR Your concern would have been valid a number of years back as you couldn't add mana to your mana pool unless it fit your commander's colour identity but that was changed so while you can't have a signet in a mono colour deck, a treasure, or stolen land, or any other way producing any colour can now produce a colour that's not in your commander's colours.
A bigger downside is that you can only **cast** the exiled card. Which means if you exile a land, it's a card you can't use since you play lands rather than cast them.
@SlavicHavoc so if 3 creatures deal damage to different players, doesn't it trigger only once? Otherwise they'd just say whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player
My guesses would be that she is a lot easier to get out, requiring only one pip, and the rest can be whatever. She gives a creature deathtouch, which can can be used for nice combat tricks, or potential boardwipes with effects such as Crypt Rats. Instead of simply reducing the cost of a spell by 1, she ramps you up with treasures, up to 6 in a single combat with first/double strike. So now we have a Gonti that is easier to get out, enables certain combat tricks, can turn board ping effects into boardwipe effects, and can ramp you enough to cast 1, if not 2 spells for free each turn. So even without the deathtouch effect, the fact she gives you treasures to be able to cast your opponents cards whilst keeping your land for your own cards is a huge upgrade from having their cost reduced by 1.
As someone who plays Cowboy Gonti ATM just to add into the above post which is completely correct, she passes out Deathtough and has free built in ramp via the Treasures which also can trigger artifact enter and leave effects. She's mono black which does mean "worse" spell options and you lose access to his Green ramp spells and blue card Draw, as well as evasive creatures, but in exchange you get to run swamps so you're never screwed or dealing with tap lands, and take advantage of powerful Black Affinity stuff like Grey Merchant and Nyxthos. And mono color manabase is a significantly cheaper buy in too Since I already have Gonti idk if I'm motivated to build her from scratch, but I'm definitely picking up one of her to go into the Gonti deck, and she's a great member of most 99s that can take her. However if you *don't* have a Cowboy Gonti deck, she's an interesting twist that does some of the same things, but takes advantage of first strike in ways he doesn't, allows for Deathtough enabled tricks he doesn't, takes advantage of affinity cards and those with many black pips, allows more artifact interactions (which means it may be worth looking at Necrons), does it all on a budget since your mana base is dirt cheap, AND your lands always enter untapped so you're practically a turn ahead of 3 color Gonti at all times.
You're forgetting ragavan is still a $50+ card and this is essentially the same thing only the cards stay around. And you can make up to three treasure instead of just 1
Learn while hindered, has meaning in Commander. If you cannot get the lesson, due to abiding to Commander RAW sans R0, you still have the option to discard a card to draw a card. Eyetwitch says this in the printed reminder text, and its last errata spells out that both the lesson part and the rummage part are optional. So with Learn: the options are Lesson, rummage, or nothing. Sans Rule Zero, EDH still allows you to choose rummage or nothing. This is why learn cards should still be considered in graveyard recursion decks. If it makes you feel any better, I have been playing for decades and have damage trigger commanders and I did not know the first strike tech until today.

I think this is going to be one of the few cards in jumpstart that keeps most of its value or may even go up
Human rogue legend that enables stealing from opponents? Oh yeah. She's definitely going in my Anowon Rogue tribal deck.
I got this card in a pack last night I’m Excited to build her 😊
Rev would be a great add to my Tasha, the Witch Queen deck. Or if I wanted to tear down and rebuild the new Sultai Gonti pre-con she'd be a great add.
Dauthi Embrace.....Enchantment that lets you pay BB to give any creature shadow, use as many times as you have the Mana available. for a non-budget upgrade
this blows my mind...how the HECK are you essentially building a deck for $12?
When the shipping costs more than the deck
Play pauper edh and save money now
He doesnt add in shipping. Which causes the deck cost to go up.
But trading and Lgs's are a thing. So it is possible. But not from online
Plus normally after the releases of these. Thr price goes up abit
All black lands makes the deck way cheaper than multi color decks.
I can't believe how hella lucky I got buying this secondhand from my lgs.
Rev is apparently unavailable when I go to purchase the deck. Is it just oit of stock.
one of the few things i would change about this deck: replace dreamstone headron with thran dynamo. that way you're paying 2 mana less to cast, while still able to tap the mana rock for 3 colorless
Its a budget thing, thran dynamo is around $2. Mitch tends to prefer cards under $1, preferably under 0.50
Except Thran Dynamo is expensive for the budget. Do you even pay attention to the videos you watch?
I have a question, I wanted to proxy it to see how it was, nice deck, only then a controversy arose if you can say so.

It activates per player. It would need to say "one or more players" to restrict it.
got that rev card... car pull... 🇵🇭
So let’s say I exile some cards with Rev, do they go away at the end of the turn like Ragavan? Or I’ll forever have them to cast? What happens if Rev dies? Do all the cards that I exiled with her go away?
"You may cast that card for as long as it remains exiled" It's written on the card.
The moment Rev is removed however you loose access to those cards I think
@@seasnek7024 No, "for as long as it remains exiled".

That card with any "tithe" in french speaking commander games in Belgium sounds like "tit".
People just can't pronounce it correctly since ever... 😅
We always pronounce tithe as tit-he
Take a sip each time he says "single black mana" 😅
Breathe Mitch breathe
doesn't the trigger only happen twice at most? it says one or more
It triggers whenever one or more of your creatures deal combat damage to a player, meaning it can trigger for each player hit.
@SlavicHavoc so if 3 creatures deal damage to different players, doesn't it trigger only once? Otherwise they'd just say whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player
Nvm I realized it would say one or more players the way I was thinking about it.
@@Nanot33 Exactly. Since it reads "a player," it triggers whenever "a player" is hit.
Yeeeeea

It really does look like an anime card!
