As i have been trying to tell folks, "Microsoft Pre-launch" and "Start with Windows" places Microsoft Edge in "RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR MODE" thereby giving them FULL CONTROL OF YOUR PC! They need to STOP harvesting data on everyone, who know what they are actually doing with it.

Is this why I keep getting messages I need permission from my administrator to do things on my PC? I am the only one on my home network. Microsoft is the administrator?
In my settings under apps, Edge is gone, but I still have an app titled "Microsoft Edge Update." Is there a way to get rid of this as well?

where in your registery after you get into Microsoft you did not find edge folder, but I did find edge folder in my laptop, it had 2 files in it, my Q? being afraid to mess with heavy 'IT' things, do I create inside edge folder a 'edgeupdate' and then the long text ending Chromium, or I create a new one as you did,
While I on this, all my short cuts going to google, like eBay and amazon are white coloured, and dont load, do I redo them, to google chrome as before, edge is every where giving me hard time, thanks in advance, Alex

Sir after renaming Microsoft edgeDevTools is still not deleted what to do.
I used this app and now when I try to set chrome as my default it still has the Microsoft edge directory and no matter how many times I set chrome as my default it will not save it… Every time I open chrome it ask me to set it as my default browser. Is there a way to stop this???
The last part of this tutorial where it says DoNotUpdateToEdgeWithChromium, i use firefox instead of chrome, so can i put firefox at the end or does it have to be typed as mentioned ? Thanks in advance ;)
you have to type it exactly as it is. because edge is a chromium browser. it's not relevant to whether you use google chrome or Firefox.

Not able to find gpedit or edit group policy so quit here need to further process ?
If you are using windows 10/11 home you need to install it from the internet
It has not worked for me. I went through the procedure several times in several days, but yet still Edge keeps popping up and asking to be made the default browser. Of course I would alwaysys say "NO". Any person with fresh ideas? Regards to everyone.

Around every time there is a Edge update (which i have never used) my disk will go to 100% out of the blue and then freeze (which happened last night and today). So i'm 99% sure this is to do with Edge updating in the background.
I've yet to try to uninstall it (worried about messing the pc up).

uninstalled with steps still showed up, still opened. NOTHING i do gets rid of this...annoying
It's really bad that we need to use a third party software to erase something that does not even have an uninstall button, and if you check the process activities, Edge is always running on the background taking part of your computer speed.

I use a browser other than Edge. I keep Edge just as a back up incase the one I use ever suddenly fails, i have a browser to access the web to replace it, fix, etc. Why exacyly would you want to totally remove Edge if you never use it and it does no harm being there?
Some people prefer it that way.
to not have an unnecessary software we dont want in our PC. not to mention to not have our data stolen
I personally want it removed because I never use it and it takes up space for literally no reason.
Since I use a browser and think it is a good idea to keep another browser on the pc just as a backup if the one I use ever goes down for a bit (rare occasion!), I let Edge stay on. I never use it. Years ago I removed Edge also, but I kept two browsers also (FireFox and Chrome for example), again...to have a spare. I used Chrome mostly and almost never FireFox. So why keep FireFox? After Windows upgrades over the years, ...Edge finds it way to senak back in, so I just let it be the onei never use these days. It's not like MS is spying on me, ...one of the over a billion users of their OS worldwide. I don't think they are interested in what I do online. These days I just use the Brave Browser, and keep but never use Edge, just as a back up in case. @@meta_cross1099

The old way worked great!! BUT after the major win 10 update it won't work anymore.. ugh... I just used REVO uninstaller and got rid or it completely !! It never worked before!! The free version works! HOWEVER, once there you NEED to use the "ADVANCED" settings.. Once it finds everything you will need to check off ALL THE BOLD FACED FILES! BE VERY CAREFUL!! It is easy! edge has hooks all over the place, made my I7 laptop run like an old 286 computer! NOW it is back to normal.. Edge sucks!!

This worked for now, thank you, just needed to find a way to install local group policy editor first as for some reason it wasn't installed on windows 10 home.
Windows is so insufferable - you turn your pc on with intention to do something but for some reason (windows update) there's 100% cpu usage for like an hour and every program is freezing or working slowly and then mandatory restart pops up, you wait another half an hour for things you know nothing of to install, only to log in and see microsoft edge reinstalled and massive boxes of unwanted information popping at you from your toolbar. Like arghhhh F* off finalllyyy, I removed you for a reason! Like, devs or whoever is responsible for this, you call that system usable? That's how it is supposed to work? It's an insult.
How did you install group policy? I tried 2 methods and could not get it and it actually needed me to do a system recovery. Can you list the steps or send a link to the source that helped you? Please and thanks.

It uninstalled first. But Windows 10 went update self immediately after uninstallation and after overnight update, Microsoft Edge reappeared!!

I have uninstalled it but when i click internet explorer it still redirects to the unistalled microsoft edge, help as i need to use the internet explorer
welp sadly Internet Explorer went out of support ages ago and not only that, when u try to use it it will automatically redirect you to Edge as supposedly it is Microsoft's "Optimised and New" browser. I would recommend using a newer and light ended browser like maybe Chrome (after optimisations), OperaGX, Brave, etc.

BS. It is just a web browser. The only thing special about it is how the jerks at Microsoft make it obscenely difficult to get rid of. They keep reinstalling it with updates and I keep figuring out how to uninstall that intrusive POS. I have uninstalled it several times now and I have never noticed the slightest problem with banishing it from my system.
