I was 9 years old when I was watching Mets games in the early to mid 80s, Ralph Kiner and Tim McCarver always told great baseball stories that kept me glued to the tv. Good times!!!
RIP, Tim McCarver. Us Mets fans truly have been spoiled with our broadcasters. Ralph Kiner, Bob Murphy, Lindsey Nelson, Tim McCarver, Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling to head the list.
Wow, I love Teri Garr... Hello Teri, just in case you come across this.❤❤❤ I've always enjoyed seeing you... so funny! Baseball fun!... and David...that hair!!!!
Loved McCarver when he broadcast Met games with Ralph Kiner and Steve Zabriski. The man was a wealth of knowledge. He was the type of guy who you’d ask what time it is and he’d tell you how to make a watch.
My family moved us to Florida in 1977. Bummer. And there wasn't much following of baseball at that time there. They didn't have a team yet. So when I got old enough me and my girlfriend moved back to NY in early 1986. I had no idea The Mets were even doing anything for like the last 15 years. I went to some of those 1969 regular season games when I was a kid, when everything went crazy in NY. This was exactly the same. I never heard of these guys at all. But after watching those Met games on TV with Tim broadcasting, it was the greatest thrill. Those unknown guys were superstars by the end of the year and the whole country knew who they were. Like 1969 all over again. But let me say this about Tim McCarver. He was the greatest. He kicked ass. He knew baseball like nobody else. It was like watching and listening to Joe Garagiola calling baseball games in the 70s. Just as exciting. God Bless Tim McCarver. For really explaining baseball to me. frankny65yroldwhitekid
James Timothy McCarver (October 16, 1941 - February 16, 2023) was an American professional baseball player and television sports commentator. He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher from 1959 to 1980 for the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos, and Boston Red Sox.
Shoot, if Teri Garr was on every episode, I'd be fine with it EDIT: Didn't mean to be insensitive about McCarrver....need to start checking the obits before I comment on these videos. RIP
Waiter in Manyunk Pennsylvania in 99. TIMMY came in with his LAWYER on a BOOK Deal & told the Manager he was going to Write on the Table Cloth even though offered a Pad....TIMMY wrote on the Cloth....
During the Barbara Gaines Show, can you have Dave explain why guests were bumped and more importantly, why doesn’t it happen now? What changed with making a late night talk show? It happened on Carson, it happened on early Dave, doesn’t happen anymore. (Except for poor Matt Damon when he’s scheduled to be on Kimmel of course)
Never a fan of McCarver...he was definitely biased against our MLB team here on a lot of his broadcasts...always preferred to listen to local radio announcers when his network had the tv game. Nothing against his athletic skills and career. Bye Bye
RIP to a true legend of MLB.
I always liked Tim's announcing. Classic guy.
So many amazing stories.⚾️⚾️⚾️
This man is a legend.
Listening to Tim McCarver tell baseball stories was always a delight. RIP, Legend.

How could I forget Howie Rose among those elite. Sorry, Howie!
Look at that list. One word: Longevity. Mets fans always end up not only getting some amazing broadcasters, but we end up getting them for decades!
I saw him when he played on the Memphis Chicks
Terrific interview, thanks so much for posting. And rest in peace Tim McCarver!
He was great in The Naked Gun.
Tim is off to the field of dreams . God speed Tim

Teri Garr. Dave’s muse in that era.
My Dad was a big Mets fan. Even though I don't follow baseball this was interesting with him and Dave's excitement.

Actually played in four decades(1959-1980)

About halfway through the interview they have to switch to a two-shot to keep from showing Terri looking bored.

Because today's guests don't have as much to say, so there's plenty of time, even with Fallon playing parlor games with them.

Now Teri Garr is gone as well. 😢
Deion should be blackballed from coaching for dumping ice in his head. Assault
He knew the game but as he got older he would shout as if trying to talk to people 100 yds away
