Hi. Great video. Ive just discovered this platform. Can you tell me how I can get collaborators?. Ive dropped an Ableton Project into my Splice folder so all good so far. Do other people come to me or do I have to find collaborators?
You need to invite a collaborator. For example, with my co-writers, I had them make a Splice profile, then I invited them. I think I used the email they registered with Splice and then Splice found them and I sent them an invite. Hope this helps.
Very sorry to report, Splice hired a new CEO recently and she discontinued this service. She says she wants to create a creators community, so really I don't understand this decision. It's a head scratcher.
Be sure to Collect All and Save when saving your session. Then the samples in your session will be automatically incorporated into the project's Samples folder. These samples will then be uploaded to the cloud and distributed to your collaborator's computer. In other words, so long as you Collect All and Save from the File menu then the samples should be there for your collaborator.
Thanks for the video, did you find the project folders got very large very quickly due to multiple versions being saved? I found this happened to me and made the server upload process very slow
My experience was that the versions were stored in the cloud, on the Splice server. When I looked into the Splice folder on my hard drive only the current project version appeared to be stored there. I might be mistaken, but this is how it appeared to function.
You're welcome. Glad you found it helpful. Remote collabs can be a lot of fun and it's possible to co-write/co-produce amazing music. Thanks for watching.
I’m looking into using Splice as a collaboration tool for High School students with 1-1 laptop program (GB) or other pending $(?) . Would you be willing to share some of the formal projects you use at Berklee? Do you know anyone teaching high school equivalent with Splice?
Can't get my collaborators changes to show up at all. I see his stems on the website in the newest version but when I upload there's no changes at all, any tips???
It sounds like you saved your changes and they uploaded to the cloud/website fine. So next your Collaborator needs to open up the Splice desktop app and download the changes, or click to open the session from the desktop app and then it will download the changes to your Collab's computer. Hope this helps.
The versions are all available in your Splice Studio account through your browser. You can select any version you want there, going back to the start of the project. If you want to create a whole new project based on your current version, maybe try the File/Save a Copy command in Live. If you save this new project in your Splice folder I believe that Splice Studio will start a new project for you.
@@ErikHawk Thank you. After updating to Beta, the new version created automatically. I was a bit thrown off after the initial project commit standard. Thank you for your reply!
Is it possible that for instance I use fl studio and my co producer uses logics to collaborate throught splice ? or do we need to use the same daw to collaborate?
You really need to be using the same DAW, and the same version for this to work. This is because you're basically sharing the same DAW session file in the cloud. If you want to work in different DAWs you'll just need to send each other audio file stems.
Thank you so much for showing us the step by step process! You are a great teacher.
Thank you so much! You're welcome.

What if there are samples ive downloaded from splice, and one of the collaborators doesn't have those samples?
