Actually, quite the opposite - the whole fight was to settle who exactly had primacy in England: Parliament or the *King.* We all know how that one ended. The only reason the monarchy was abolished was because Cromwell was as good a politician as he was a good fighter - and he used the anti-charles sentiment to justify his abolishing of the monarchy... while conveniently taking the position of Lord Protector for himself by completely selfless reasons, I'm sure. Besides, loads of Parliamentarians were constitutional monarchists (Fairfax, to cite one example), because they never wanted the monarchy abolished, just a tamed monarch - which is what we still have today after the Restoration, so royalist cause is very much lost.

So it seems disingenuous to chalk that up as a win for Parliament. And Charles II famously dissolved Parliament too, and faced no repercussions for it. The issue of Parliamentary supremacy wasn't solved until Charles II's brother and successor James II overplayed his hand and got replaced by his daughter and son-in-law who were happy to let the Parliamentarians run things. But by then even the pro-Parliamentarian Whigs were a far cry tamer than the Puritan Republicans of Cromwell's day.

The cause that won both on the battlefield and on politics is the Parliamentarian one. If you are gonna apply the logic of "Parliament lost because Cromwell's republic fell", then the Royalists lost even harder by being flung off power since 1688. Any way you slice it, the UK doesn't justify its monrchy through divine right, Parliament has ultimate authority, liberalism became synonymous with England during the 18th, 19th and early 20th century. The cavaliers lost the Civil War. And the whigs not being Cromwelians doesn't make them any less parliamentarian. Once again: Parliament wins. And it won hard.
@@AngloWelshProductions Well the King was really incompetent, he tried to push for resurgence of Catholicism in England which was not really a good idea at the time, and was very anti-Calvinist, again stomping on the religious freedoms of Low Church Anglicans and other Protestants who were the majority of the country. His campaigns in France and Span were terrible failures and his other ventures led to him being broke. And his policies would've made us a puppet of the French. His incompetence led to rebellion in Ireland, English settlers there being massacred and he did nothing about it. Cromwell saw this and took action, and restored England into greatness, we went from being a relative backwater to one of the major players in Europe. He surpassed all previous Kings of England and finally conquered Scotland and brought the British Isles under English rule. We defeated the Spanish and the Dutch. He built up our navy which became the best navy in the world. He created the New Model Army which was one of the best armies in Europe at the time and used it to decisively defeat even the Scots who had more experience fighting wars in the continent. He basically laid the foundations for the British Empire.
