Now that I am in my early 60's, I truly believe that IF we had known about the amazing benefits of growing our own gardens and the importance of grass-fed, none hormone injected beef that we would be SO much healthier today! All of the processed foods I've consumed over my lifespan have just affirmed how bad those foods are! Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer can all be linked back to what we expose ourselves to, I'm sure! But you're never too old to learn and do better! I plan to start my own garden and choose to eat more organically. Thanks for sharing!
Ally watching your video today, the way your hands worked in the garden; and the way You move w such intention and care. You remind of a midwife caring for mothers and babies. I was a practicing doula for over 25 years. I’ve watched a lot of loving hands. Your hands and careful attention remind me of the many women I’ve worked with. .. who knows, that may be your calling down the road on your journey through life ❤
Weldone ALI for the successful veggie patch.. It's, the nicest one I've seen 🍅🥦🫑🥒 and the abundance you have produced is amazing.... I hope you are proud of yourself..✨👍. I love watching your videos they always make me smile.. ☺️✨💕Take care my Lovely ,, GOD BLESS YOU..@... Kyle and the kitties 🐱💕🐱
Ally- tip from experience: for removing tomato skins before processing for sauces etc: the easiest way is to cut an X on the bottom of tomatoes, freeze them overnight then remove from freezer, let them defrost on counter or in fridge and the skins will peel right off as if you boiled them.
I NEVER remove the skins if I’m canning or freezing sauce. There are good nutrients in skin. The trick is a really good immersion blender or a regular blender that will pulverize it! And growing tomatoes specifically for sauce.
Hi Ally I'm from vermont just over the line of nh other side of the George. First time mentioning to you how this vedio really was stunning! Your choice of music the violin playing and you picking your reels of your hard work of this amazing garden the two of you creating this amazing garden was so blissful and touching to watch you with your confident voice and happiness in your smile was very enjoyable to watch. You have grown so much with this journey of yours and ty ally!!! Kc I would like someday to get together and do some hiking through the woods I enjoy nature like you do! Vermont
When you talk about the sensation of feeling the potatoes with your bare hands, I feel the same way about the sound of you harvesting the produce. There's a thusness to it that just makes it feel right. Thank you so much for this.
I just wanted to say you are amazing, and this is what all women should be doing for there family. Instead of trying to be in the work place so we are forced to buy the horrible cancer causeing groceries from the store. Women like you are 1 in a million and hopefully one will cross my path one day. I will marry her on the spot!!!
I'm watching both yours and Kyle's videos on this rainy day. 100% chance of rain all day thanks to a tropical system off the coast of the Carolinas so a perfect day to sit back and catch up. I'm loving your garden!
👏 👏 Barred Owls have a distinctive hooting call of 8-9 notes, described as “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?” This call carries well through the woods and is fairly easy to imitate. During courtship, mated pairs perform a riotous duet of cackles, hoots, caws and gurgles.
Bats have symbolic significance in various spiritual traditions, symbolizing transformation, guidance, and a connection to the spirit realm. Daytime bat sightings can carry spiritual insights and teachings, offering wisdom and lessons for personal growth.
Try oven roasting red peppers, garlic and tomato in olive oil, when done, turn to sauce in the blender..adjust seasonings. Add fresh oregano and basil at the end.
Ally, you’re correct about the potatoes weather permitting of course. Growing up my folks were mad gardeners and had dozens of wooden barrels. We put in a few inches of loam, layered potatoes, carrots, turnips, etc, then covered with another layer of loam. These barrels were small because they got very heavy. They were stored in the basement and lasted all winter. My mom also had over 1k mason jars!!
Ally my gosh you are truly an inspiration and hopefully with so many of us watching you we will learn the importance of growing our own fruits and vegetables if we can possibly do it. That this is something we can all maybe try. Both you and Kyle are such hard working individuals and now things you guys have accomplished shows what hard work can produce. You are so gifted Ally in so many ways. God has blessed you for sure. Thank you again for showing us that we can dump ultra processed foods and go “au natural”! 😁 As always I so look forward to your videos……Lisa 🤗🙏💓
The bat is adorable!!! Definitely good luck 😊 You're doing such an amazing job with your bountiful harvest!!! So exciting to see all the delicious things you are making, and preserving ❤
An easy way to deal with tomatoes for sauce is to cut them in half and remove the seeds with your thumb. Lay the tomatoes on a baking sheet and roast them. After they are roasted, and when they are cool enough to handle, slip the skins off, then either jar them up as they are, or make your sauce. I just jar them up as they are then turn them into whatever I want when I have the time. Don’t forget the lemon. Use bottled lemon because the level of acidity is more consistent. Some people don’t mind seeds and skins but I find they taste better without them. The seeds give it a bitter edge and it is a smoother sauce without the skin. You did very well considering this is your first year. Very well done. 😊
What fun to watch you gather and create all your own recipes ! My Grandmother would make chili sauce with oodles of tomatoes that we would pick at a local farm. Her house always smelled like fall ! Beautiful bounty after all that hard work ! Enjoy !
Grams chili sauce 36 ripe tomatoes 4 green peppers, 4 red peppers, 4 large onions, 2 cups sugar, 3/4 cups vinegar, table spoon each of salt cloves, nutmeg, allspice, hot pepper seeds cook until thick 3 1/2 hours found this in her old recipe box ! Just wanted to share
I love seeing what you harvest and cook from your garden. Amazing video. ❤🔥 I need more of these! You could also create educational garden content (more step by step guides really explaining how to do things) and stuff that you learn from your apprenticeship
You’ve put so much into your garden, and it looks amazing. It’s only going to get better from here! I’m feeling inspired to make pesto. Great video, Ally! 🧡
I would suggest doing a Green Tomato Pie filling. Green tomatoes mixed with tart apples, raisins and fall spices is wonderful for Fall and Winter deep dish pies.
You had a huge harvest! I store all my harvested veggies in the freezer. If you make the space for storing canned items, I would also put an upright freezer in your home too. Since you have a generator you won't have to worry if the electric goes out. To sort items in my upright freezer I use dishpans marked with PORK BEEF CHICKEN SEAFOOD etc. It helps me know my inventory.
Wow! I just love your videos. The colors of the vegetables and flowers, music, and your calming voice all intermingle to create such soothing videos. Your work ethic and passion for what you do is vividly apparent. I'm looking forward to watching you move forward with all of your plans.
Hey there pretty girl! I KNEW when I saw your harvest in Kyle’s video that we would get to see more of your beautiful garden harvest. Good onya! You’re adorable, Ally!
Not amateurish, but very well planned & executed! Congratulations on the abundant garden, the success of which is measured in its utilization & preservation. Well done & very inspirational!
You've put so much time and effort into your garden, and it looks great! It's only going to get better. I’m feeling inspired to make pesto. Great video, Ally! 🧡
Love all of this gardening, my dad made a green house with plastic instead of glass , for years we started there and than planted in the garden our plants . We canned most of our harvest and we had a root cellar as well . Being poor somehow we felt rich .
I love that you’re harvesting with bare hands-it’s such a special way to connect with the land. Feeling the potatoes as you pull them up must be so satisfying! 🥔✨
Fantastic you're so inspiring every vlog is a joy. Advice on greenhouse just get a big one straight away I promise you will outgrow a little in no time so don't waste the effort with a little one as they can still be costly. 😉 x
Ally, I absolutely love your content, you are very genuine and inspiring! I always learn so much! I am planning on starting my own garden in spring, are there any resources/trainings you would recommend for someone starting a homestead?
Your garden has done amazingly well for its first year! I love my tulsi and lemon balm also! My dehydrator runs almost full time through the summer. I never buy tea bags anymore, love my fresh tea leaves that I grew myself.
So wholesome to see the whole process. I love preserving food and herbs for winter. It feels so good, especially when it's from our garden. You're rich😁 Thank you for telling the "problem" with the reducing tomatoes, as I planned to do this soon. I'll think about what I'm gonna do about this, as I need to harvest mine a bit earlier anyway because of the rain that makes them turn bad sooner :/ thank you for your thoughts! Bon Appetit 😊
Wonderful video! You remind me of myself when I was younger learning canning and preserving. Best way to learn is jump right in with some good resources to help you along. You can do it!! And I’ll be here watching every step of the way😊❤
I love your video! Videos like this inspired me to create my own channel 🥰I'm only on 117 subscribers and feeling a little hopeless, but here's to not giving up!
Beautiful harvest Ally! I’m moving onto fall crops now down here in the Outer Banks. Kale, spinach, lettuces, peas and more beans, pumpkins. We have a greenhouse goal also! We can and dehydrate everything. No root cellars at sea level. 😂❤
What a gloriously healthy garden… you are a magical gardener❣️Love♥️❣️🤗‼️I also make Pesto with French Sorrel- Delicioso🤗❣️♥️You need a wide jar funnel 😳
Gm. I love a diet of fresh veggies and fruits (Azure Standards) and good meat. I am a marketer for Melaleuca and they have a ranch with very affordable meat bundles. For 20 some years I was vegan what was I thinking lol. Thanks for some great ideas for recipes.
Yes! I love eating a large variety of fresh food to get a well rounded diet. I tried being vegan for a short period of time and it wasn’t for me either, but to each their own!
Please make more videos like this again. You inspired me to get back out in my garden, harvest what's left, dehydrate more, and make an elixir. More how- to videos on naturalpathic uses of herbs is very inspiring! Thanks!!
Yay, so happy you liked it that much! I had loads of fun creating this in every part of the process. I was thinking I could do some tinctures soon too and show that.
@@allymariebrownI second the request for tincture vids. Which reminds me I need to make more Fire on the Mountain. It's a recipe I found several years ago that has loads of ingredients that you put together in a couple of half gallon canning jars and let sit on the shelf for 6 weeks; filter through cheesecloth, store on the shelf in canning jars and take a shot of it every morning for immunity and other benefits.
Thank you again Ally for another great video. I really enjoyed watching this video,as well as all the other ones that I have seen. You are quite the go getter. Full of ambition and you are very talented. God Bless You and Your Family.🙏😊
Your veggies are gorgeous!!! Here’s a tip: the garden is always amazing the first couple years because bad buggies haven’t discovered it. Have bug/mosquito netting ready to cover your crops that don’t need pollination like cruciferous veg, greens, etc. For squash and cucumber family grow them up like over hog panels (not cattle panels they’re not sturdy enough) this way you can keep an eye on the dreaded squash bugs and cucumber beetles. Tomatoes and peppers you just need to keep an eye on them. I grow indeterminate toms over an arbor as well it’s so easy for harvesting and looking out for bugs and worms. You will need PVC pipe the size that allows you to bend it, you can attach them on the inside of the raised beds and lay the netting over that to protect your beautiful garden from bugs that want to destroy it. I also plant basil all over the garden close to veggies this seems to help repel some bugs. Hope this helps for future gardening🍅

Wow, thank you!
I think Ally needs many many more subs!
Beautiful garden! FYI, if you pour a thin layer of olive oil on top of your pesto it will keep it from turning black.

Hey Ally,
What is your garden soil made up of? It took off so quickly producing such a bounty! Congratulations on your achievements 😊
Thanks! It’s a blend of compost and loamy soil from a local farm. In the past I’ve done a mix of vermiculite, peat moss and compost.
Also blood meal for some plants too!

You're so lucky to have a bat friend. You could put up a bat box and attract them. Natures misquote hunters.
Absolutely beautiful garden. The way to be. Live off the land. Will you have a winter garden?

Have bug/mosquito netting ready to cover your crops that don’t need pollination like cruciferous veg, greens, etc. For squash and cucumber family grow them up like over hog panels (not cattle panels they’re not sturdy enough) this way you can keep an eye on the dreaded squash bugs and cucumber beetles. The type of tomato can impact your yield. Some are good for salsa and sauces and others make better juice.
True, this will be something that I consider much more next year!
