Thanks for the upload Derek, every day above ground is always better than the alternative 😊
Well, I've never heard that expression before. It made smile.
Hi Derek, I can hear you have the new brake alarm system on your ebike. That's what rain does to our brakes 😊
Yes, Rory. The voice of reason. There isn't much that can be done is there except don't use the brakes and slide your feet along the ground lol. Cheers.
Another great video Derek the roads are terrible full of potholes and getting busier if i were you I’d get them spokes tightened,I’ve just bought a cube e-BYKE it’s great what a difference on the hills,I was finding it getting harder as I’ll be 70 in July.
Hi Robert. You may have noticed that, oddly, the back wheel is different than the front. Way back in 2019 I buckled the back wheel. Evans replaced it with the only one they could get. They said a Cube replacement would take ages to get and be very dear. This wheel is okay but it hasn't anywhere near as many spokes on it and they're going rusty! (Cube spokes are stainless steel) I'm wondering whether the thread has stripped and the spoke has just come a bit slack. I need a spoke tightening tool. I could try a very small spanner. So you've bought a Cube e bike. good choice. Not expensive but good value for money. Touch wood, the electrics have been faultless so far with my Cube (5,450 miles) I must have helped Cube sell a few more with my videos. Cheers.
That was a great ride Derek and thanks for sharing.
Thanks Drew. Funnily enough that is one of my favourite routes to ride usually because it's never quite as busy as some others. Cheers.
Brilliant video Derek also really enjoyed your vocal comments x
Hi Gary. Yes, me at my grumpiest lol. I should have gone home after the fourth set of red lights. Cheers.
@@derektaylor6713 you are sounding just like me or i sound just like you Derek grumpy owd men😡🤣
Great video my brakes tend to squeal a lot as soon as I get them a little wet. The traffic is horrendous no wonder you are a little grumpy I would be.
Nay, you can't be as grumpy as me. I wrote the book lol. Do you remember the tv progamme - Grumpy Old Men? Well, I was bought the book and the experts on grump who wrote it seemed to think that a man gets grumpy between 40 and 65 years old and then enters the cheerful at all cost zone. I'm still waiting for that to happen and I'm 71! I don't believe it! Cheers.
Hi Derek
Now after hearing you moan on this film, Gale is now more than ever convinced We are related.... I don't know what on earth She means lol! Great film again mate, I'm so so glad you had both hands on the handlebars when you hit that world war one trench! I was scratching My head with that ticking sound, amazed it wasn't actually that loose spoke, but was definitely caused by that trench moving the magnet, or the receiver. Also one or two very near misses with some of them cars, I do worry about you on them fast roads, you've definitely more about you than I would have.
Again great film though Derek, and cheers for posting
Hi Daron. I was a bit reluctant to show this film with all that moaning but when I've watched it back, it made me laugh. Really speaking, after the forth set of red lights when I mentioned something about 'Nora' , I should have called it a day and headed home.
When I hit that sharp edge at the grid and the tyres didn't pop holds testament as to how good these Continental tyres with their protective belt inside are. But that thudding really kidded me. I've had somebody try to tighten the loose spoke and he says that the thread is stripped! Most of them are going rusty anyway. What it needs is a new set of stainless steel spokes fitting. On this wheel there are far less spokes than the original which is odd but I don't fancy buying a new wheel. However, he also says that this replacement wheel, which Evans Cycles fitted, is a good make.
Hope you and Gale are okay. Best wishes to both of you.
Classic Video Derek I regard myself as the Grumpiest Road user in Owdham you are my Doppleganger!!🤣🤣😠😠😡🚴🚴
Well, I can be a grumpy car driver. I once moaned so much in our car whilst driving to the NEC motorhome show, Helen started crying. Wow that quietened be down a bit. Now, I'm generally quite patient when driving but road works are the blue touch paper. Especially when there's nobody there or even no hole in the road. Something recently has affected my brain whilst cycling as you've seen in this video. 12 months ago, no matter how bad the traffic would be I wouldn't get grumpy. But now I do. And yet driving the car I'm ok. Really odd. Cheers.
Im with you on the Dig a hole and bugger off thing Derek!!!@@derektaylor6713 😡😡
Good video Derek, I regularly use brake cleaner, tend to give the pads and disc a spray every few weeks especially in winter when there’s a lot of muck & salt etc coming off the road. Not had any squeaks so far.
Yes, I really am guilty of neglecting the brakes but they do seem ok when they're dry. The pads are still going strong at 5,450miles. They've actually done some 1,900 miles since they were fitted. Cheers.
Thank you Derek for another great video. The weather is very unpredictable at moment. One of the days we had recently had 4 seasons in one day . Very bizarre. Reference to the squeaking brakes , Unfortunately wet pads and disc rotas hydraulic or cable do squeak in the wet . Different bike products can minimise the squeaking i found but will not totally stop it thats what I found .I did asked professional cyclists for advise and they said the same . If you do find a solution please could you make a video on it as it is very annoying to all cyclists like ourselves . Kind regards Trevor 👍
Hi Trevor. Yes I've found every bike I've had has had this problem. I don't go out in the rain if I can help it so it isn't a serious problem. Really soft brake pads may be the answer but they wouldn't last very long. I'll give it some thought. I have noticced that the front is always noisier than the rear. You could always throw an anchor in the road lol. Cheers.
@@derektaylor6713 try cleaning discs with meths.
Hi Anthony. Okay I'll see if Helen can get some. I have got some disc brake cleaner which I use every now and then but wet on the discs is a problem. Cheers.
Some break cleaner or alcohol solution and and good scrub with a scrubber sponge perfect and some abrasive on the rotor
Hi Nathaniel. It's almost a certainty that it's a combination of worn brake pads and damp discs. When everything dries out it is silent and powerful. But I will give everything a good clean. I do have some brake disc cleaning stuff in the shed. Cheers.
Lol 😂
