Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English comedian, actor, writer, presenter, and activist.
After a troubled childhood and adolescence, during which he was expelled from two schools and spent three months in prison for credit card fraud, he secured a place at Queens' College, Cambridge, where he studied English literature. While at university, Fry became involved with the Cambridge Footlights, where he met his long-time collaborator Hugh Laurie. As half of the comic double act Fry and Laurie, he co-wrote and co-starred in A Bit of Fry & Laurie, and took the role of Jeeves (with Laurie playing Wooster) in Jeeves and Wooster.
Fry's acting roles include a Golden Globe Award-nominated lead performance in the film Wilde, Melchett in the BBC television series Blackadder, the title character in the television series Kingdom, a recurring guest role as Dr. Gordon Wyatt on the crime series Bones, and as Gordon Deitrich in the dystopian thriller V for Vendetta. He has also written and presented several documentary series, including the Emmy Award-winning Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive, which saw him explore his mental illness. He is also the long-time host of the BBC television quiz show QI.

I would LOVE is Steven came to my school and gave a speech! As well as q&a ofcourse.
There is no more impressive and inspirational human as this.
Come now, he is impressive and eloquent, though there are so many others out there who are just as impressive.
The bored looking student is distracting but I don't think ill of him, its weird to listen to a speaker while sitting behind them. You have nothing to look at as it is an odd angle to be, you can either stare awkwardly at the back of their head or at nothing.
Also it looks like it must be very, very hot in that room, which doesn't help when trying to follow ideas and this sort of lecture.
On another video of this talk a person claiming to be the student in question said he was very I'll but didn't want to miss Stephen talk

... and now, it does seem numerous people in the room were sick that time, even stephen noticed it. Not blaming them, I would have done the exact same thing no matter what my physical (and mental) state was.

That's very kind of you, Joanne. I think it was incredibly rude though. If you watch the full interview he does it throughout. Leaning his head back on the wall constantly in a dismissive manner. He didn't have to be there. He wasn't forced to be there. Luckily, he does not represent the rest of the audience.

If you haven't already done so, check out his autobiography, other writings - both serious & comedic, as well as any YT content in which he appears with Hitchens or Dawkins etc.... Well worth being familiar with.

An obviously well educated man. I am amazed at some of the differences of the way that students are involved in this discussion. They actually listen and don't attack anyone for holding an opinion. Is this an English thing?
Isn't It common from where you are from? I'm not from England but I think this happens in many country
It was just a human thing before discourse and learning got bullied into taking a backseat over feelings in some countries that lead to the widespread protesting and banning of speakers on campuses that you see now.

Maybe the audience was filled in with boys from the infirmary. I don't think I've ever heard so much coughing from different people in the audience in such a short space of time.

This went on a long time and it's uncomfortable. Also, Stephen Fry can get pretty monotonous and slow. You are just the regular, smug, malicious internet blabber, I wonder if you've ever been to more than a single lecture, let alone in the evening and crammed together.
I happened across this video in a rather glorious surge of beer-swilling madness over the last weekend.... anyHU! That guy in the background made me want to punch my laptop, like literally punch it!
In the comments of another video, that person noted that he had been very sick for several days but mustered up the strength to come see Fry talk, because he didn't want to miss it despite not being able to enjoy it fully. I understand where you're coming from, but it is generally good to give people the benefit of the doubt. Personally I can say that had I been in such a state, I'd have done the exact same thing and looked exactly as miserable. Visceral reactions feel nice, but they're usually not based on a full set of facts.

I KNEW I wasn't being paranoid about this! I'm so glad to hear this amazing man say it out loud.
Funny story, there is a girl who loves me (dammit) cuz she's so hot and I was hoping to have some fun with her.. we are good friends! But I've been avoiding it out of respect for her.. any other girl, it's okay to... but of course after hearing Mr. Stephen and I need to read these other pieces by Oscar Wilde, hmmm! There is always a price for pleasure.

Umm, I'm afraid the reason I cannot do so is I am appalled at her choice of previous lover. He was a rude and unpleasant human being, and beyond all else he was a married man.
I am very quickly upset when someone is being fooled. Maybe she was blinded by love or an infatuation for him, but it's still super difficult for me to get over it. We live we learn; our hearts get a bit harder than they should be. Haha.

@@johnybrokeit Of course I dont know about the situation, but perhaps she was deceived by this person, and if she was abused by him then perhaps she didn't have the strength to stand up for herself... perhaps you could provide her support in healing from this and work to be a much better partner than her last. Of course it's your choice, and if you're not into it then you have no obligation to care for her.. but from experience, I have learned that sex is rarely as good as we imagine when we don't totally want to do it with that person, and if there are any doubts whatsoever.. they'll play on your mind and constantly bother you while you're trying to enjoy their company in bed!
Equally, as per Stephen Fry's words 'toying with people's affections'... If I have understood you correctly and this girl has been hurt/victimized, then it would be a good idea not to risk her getting hurt again.
Maybe just think about her in private... to quote Quentin Crisp, 'sex is a poor substitute for masturbation' ;)

Umm, regarding my friend being a victim with her previous lover, I think strongly that her picking a man already tied to someone else is an action of pure arrogance and deserves No sympathy! I despise people cheating others (the man's spouse in this scenario) or tolerating the knowledge of it. Divorce your partner and do whatever the hell you want, is what I think is fair!
Yes, there is the idea that Love is not a good partner in crime and that it has proven to leave couples in the blink of an eye.. that's a different topic which I'll let be.
When we guys be all nice to girls who deliberately pick partners like these (in relationships alresdy), I take what i see to be hints of MY life with this lady if I so choose to fall for her (and Fall I must, otherwise, what's the point; it is a huge requirement too for love - Alan Watts).
If it wasn't with that married fuc* I would have at least seen her b**bies by now haha. But no, like this video we r commenting on discusses... its too risky, and for ME too!

I would say a bigger personality (as a speaker and had a revolutionary outlook.!! M&M (marshal mathers to the Lehman) has taken over from Wiylde as time waits for everything and nothing depends how you live it,.!?
