  • Forget about all the bio-mechanical pelvis and rib cage movements.
    Forget about gait mechanics.
    Forget about hamstring and glute strength, and achieving left AF/IR and a zone of apposition.
    Why do you do Postural Restoration techniques?
    To live. To live normally. To regain what you once did without difficulty: moving and breathing without extra effort. To relax with movement and life. Because life is movement.

    I enjoy the fact that we're both on the same journey, and even though you're the teacher here your still continuing to learn yourself.

      Bonby Jackson it’s very cliche, but the more you learn the more you realize there is still sooooo much more to learn.

    Good evening man. This is pretty incredible information. Thank you.
    I noticed one of your points when I was doing hanging leg raises, the left side was quite hard to engage. Even with mind muscle concentration. I also have an asymmetrical face that I can see in pictures. Any specific exercises to solve both?

    Hi Neal. I'm very new to this Postural Restoration stuff and I want to learn as much as I can off of your channel. Is there a order I should do it in or just watch your videos in any order.

      I would start with the playlist about the patterns.

    Thanks again for these videos. I've been doing the exercises for a few weeks... and as a result become very aware of the heel, hamstring ZOA connection while I'm walking Breathing is clearly important in the exercises but our breathing doesn't coincide with our gait when we walk... I get that the ZOA does..Is that what you mean or is there more to this idea that gait and breathing are one and the same thing?

    • @NealHallinan
      @NealHallinan  3 роки тому +2

      Correct, breathing doesn't coincide with gait.
      However, every so often, we will begin an inhalation when attempting to stabilize our bodyweight on our left foot. In that moment of time, it's probably best to be able to initiate that breath with the left diaphragm. Or I may pause on the rocks, just as in the picture shown, and hopefully I can breathe without relying on my neck because the left side of my body is stable enough that I can use my left diaphragm. Or when I get home, I hope my body is neutral so I don't use my neck and lower back to help me breathe all night....
      Many of the muscles that we use for compensatory breathing strategies (if you've lost your left ZOA) also become compensatory movement muscles that ingrain a stronger pattern in us over long periods of time until it becomes dysfunctional.

      Lamya Naem well, I’m really not an expert on scoliosis. That’s why I have recently interviewed two people who are experts. I suggest reaching out to one of them.

    why doesnt anyone talk about the fact that posterior tilted pelvis looks horrible. I've been working on stacking my diaphragms and its making me look like a refrigerator, making me look like mike wazowski from monster inc. is it about having the ability to do it? so youre not stuck in extension? extended shoulders, extended neck and lordosis are actually attractive imo. maybe im just different and already had good lower spine flexion. Forward reach on the other hand worked wonders for me. BUT I can't deny that posterior superficial muscle does look good when activated. Look at Roy jones jr vs mike tyson face off, two old guys, Roy having a move forward upper back, mike with more rhomboids. mike has a better chest and looks better from the side. i find expanding my upper back makes me more prone for man tittys. Is the key really just having the mobility between all options? is there a point where you yourself stopped working on spinal flexion? are you constantly trying to get it to flex more? for me at least ive been getting a lot of benefits from training both extension and flexion

    Hi Neal,
    Do you ever notice that after making gains and staying consistent with exercises, you still have relapses to painful dysfunctions for seemingly no reason? I've got my vision corrected, seeing a neuromuscular dentist and am consistently doing the exercises, but I still get these heart-breaking setbacks.
    I'm trying to be optimistic and tell myself that maybe these setbacks are just the body's reaction to new strength and functionality paradigms. But boy does it take a psychological toll. "Emotional rollercoaster" doesn't even come close to describing the feelings of despair that set in when I go from walking around without assistance to being crippled once again by pain and dysfunction.

      I'm doing so much better! I kept persevering with PRI and I also got a diastasis recti surgery which really stabilized my core.
      Just don't give up!

      @@qytjdfuocnguiofm Wow that's all great. I have a diastasis recti also, mild I think, and got much better with the exercises. Should I still look into that surgery? I want to cover bases if their relevant. And what else PRI wise do yo, can you do at this point?

    • @qytjdfuocnguiofm
      @qytjdfuocnguiofm 2 роки тому

      @@uboobly hi there. So i lucked out, while repairing my hernia they offered to do the diastasis recti surgery. Shockingly, the surgery is often billed as a cosmetic surgery in a lot of places but I lucked out. It helped stabilize my core tremendously and i don't feel a single bit of pain from the mesh. If you can, I say go for it! I went from needing a cane to walk, to walking freely within 2 months of that surgery

    • @uboobly
      @uboobly 2 роки тому

      Sorry to keep asking but what did you mean by the word stabilize. You weren't able to walk because of diastasis pain or left AIC joint pain. My diastasis is mild. Or so I think I mean my abdomen protrudes, I've improved my obliques already. I feel like I can't get a good sense of grounding while walking but when I flex my transverse abdominis just standing, glutes come on and I'm more standing stable that way, and my back pain from left aiac feels better. So I'm replying and if it tightens irritative surgery and provide better grounding feel I would pursue surgery too.
