How We "Learn" Postural Restoration

  • Learning Postural Restoration is difficult. But it's mostly difficult because we were taught a certain way prior to discovering PRI.
    As a trainer, all my certifications and study revolved around bones and muscles. The brain that coordinated all that muscular movement was an afterthought. And all the sensory input that the brain utilizes to make decisions about muscular output was never even discussed.
    PRI's introductory courses, Myokinematic Restoration, Postural Respiration, and Pelvis Restoration teaches about muscles and bones and patterns.
    As you advance, you realize that these muscles and bones are secondary to patterns, and patterns are secondary to the brain and senses behind those patterns.

    I will say that yes I've had a huge epiphany with understanding PRI and ZOA, Left AIC and in simple terms just having a stronger right side and weaker left side. My biomechanics seem to acknowledge this also. For like 5-6 years I was slowly figuring out what my body was doing but didn't have that neuroplastic link to connect my physical body with my brain. Huge awakening when I understood that.
    In probably the last 6 months give or take I've realized more upper body issues or dysfunctions that I never felt before and I think its because I've really nailed down my pelvis Left AIC pattern to the point where pain and the associated pattern seems to have really lightened up. Right shoulder and what seems to be my cervical atlas/axis and tightness in neck. I do have tightness turning neck to left! I think I'm integrating more and more now because i'm understanding the whole brain/body connection. I might have to delve into the visual / optics side of PRI also. Big epiphany with breathing and how the ribs play a major role in everything. Crazy!
    I still think I have an issue with my right ankle at talus where an impingement is causing localized issue but does also seem to be getting better also. (those paper towels on my medial arch's is wild)!!! I'm really looking/feeling things top/down as a whole human more now. I don't feel 100% but its really a great feeling to understand things this way. I have your email for our one on one Neal, just been busier than normal but will get in touch with you soon. Thanks much!

    I’ve been depressed for 2 years with this left AIC right BC problem. Just recently, I’ve been doing the PRI exercises as shown on your website and I also got some shoes that was on the PRI shoe list. I feel a big improvement with my posture and with my walking mechanics, I still have ways to go though. I still find it a bit difficult to get to my left side and stabilizing that side as I tend to orient back to my right side. I think the shoes that I’m wearing (Asic gel nimbus) are helping but could you suggest what else I could do to get on the left side?

    • @NealHallinan
      @NealHallinan  4 роки тому +1

      If the deviated septum is preventing you from breathing through your nose, and thus rely more on mouth breathing, that can be problematic because it promotes overactive neck muscles. When I say "locked up" it means you lose normal range of motion in the joints and spine.

    • @NealHallinan
      @NealHallinan  5 років тому

      Actually, yes it does. The right psoas often weakens in it's ability to help rotate our lumbar spine (and thus pelvis) to the left. You may now be more efficient in "getting left" and thus your right adductor and obliques can now rest. If you can't "get left" the right side stays overactive.
