Nobody can play Nicolas Cage better than Nicolas Cage himself. This is such a perfect casting! 😄

I was kind of hoping for Ed Norton but Nicholas Cage will do
Ok
I don't know what to say
We need Nicolas Cage at different times in his career making appearances in this movie. Get the time machine.
Whether he's in a good or bad movie, we can't deny that he's just relentlessly entertaining and fun to watch. He can make bad movies that is so bad, it's unintentionally hilarious and really entertaining to watch when he dials up his performance to 100+
I’ve never heard anyone describe Con air so well
Didn't u leave this same comment on Kimmels channel
@@silverrider5967 Con Air is fantastic. Watching Nick Cage and John Malkovich hamming it up is endlessly entertaining
Willy’s Wonderland as a perfect example.
He’s never been in a bad movie
Nicolas Cage is a National Treasure
underrated comment
I saw what you did there! 😉
One could say he's The Rock of Hollywood.
😏
National Treasure 3
Nic Cage went full circle, man! From acclaimed dramatic roles, to solid action movies, to trash c-movies, to again- critcally acclaimed high on RT movies (Mandy, Pig, this one)
Willys Wonderland & Color Out Of Space was great too!
Let's not forget that he's an Academy Award Winning Actor. We can say that he's versatile
Is agree with most of this except Pig was the most pretentious, self indulgent movie I’ve seen in a long time. It was just an hour and a half of Portland and all the actors involved blowing themselves at how art house-ey and interesting they are. It was eye roll moment after eye roll moment. His acting? Superb as always. The movie? Hilariously bad.
Primal and Army of One were fun too, but Pig and Mandy really hit on an emotional connection level
Mandy was nuts
This is probably the best thing that’s ever happened in movie history, thank you for who ever came up with this and who ever green lit this masterpiece.
yes. movie fans the world over smack their fists to their palms and salute you.
I doubt it's better than "Being John Malkovich"
Imagine thinking some Nicolas Cage fanfic is peak comedy. The cringe
The director is apparently Pedro Pascal’s character irl, he’s the one that came up with the idea and wrote a nice letter to Nic to get him on board
@@sephiraabraxas9146 imagine talking shit about a movie you havent seen yet.
The "NOT THE BEES!" line killed me, but nobody else in the theater laughed at it.
What's wrong with them????
Had,.they ever seen a nic cage movie before? Wut?
If only he punched women in a bear suit again
Nic Cage has had a very interesting career
A lot of actors start off in corny horror movies then graduate to blockbusters, but it's been the opposite for Nic. And even the weird horror flicks he's been in lately have been made fantastic by Cage's performance.
Looking forward to this man continuing his strange and wonderful legacy
Corny horror movies? Please name this ""lot of actors" cuz theres none
@@suave-rider Jennifer Aniston in some lepricon movie and Johnny Depp in the first Nightmare on Elm street came to mind immediately for me
@@suave-rider Eva Mendes started in cheap horror
Bruce Willis and Liam Neeson are also kinda like Nic. I guess you could even say adam Sandler except when you count Uncut gems which is a masterpiece
@@qjames0077 oh yeah thats a lot of actors
When Nic says thank you for being part of "storytelling and...mythmaking" - i felt it was a genuine thank you to the audience for being with him throughout his career. It also puts his priorities/motivations about filmmaking (beyond needing to pay taxes) - he loves the craft and it shows
I saw Everything Everywhere all at once last week. I saw The Northman last night. Going to see this, this weekend. Finally movies that are not superhero films and have great story telling. Everyone should go see these in theaters and support good filmmaking.
I agree but unfortunately I feel like non movie buffs won’t give them the attention they deserve.
How did you find the Northman? I am kind of torn whether I should see this cuz I saw The Green Knight last year and I didn't love it or understand it quite frankly. I mean I am not saying it was mediocre or crap, the cinematography, acting performances were all good but it was AN INCREDIBLY SLOW BURN and there were lots of WTF moments in that which I still don't understand like the scenes with those naked bald pale white giants with breasts and another scene where Ewan McGregor ' s character kisses Dev Patel ' s character 😲🙆😫
And since you are talking about original storytelling films, there's also the body horror film with Sebastian Stan called Fresh on Hulu or Disney plus STAR everywhere outside of US which is worth checking out too. Not saying it's perfect or flawless but one of the better original films to come out this year after the 3 you mentioned
@@TypeLproductions I fear the same thing. I think Northman was marketed pretty well so hopefully that does good in the box office
@@nikitamohanan2124 I am pretty lucky. I live 5 minutes from a nice Marcus Theaters. It has an ultrascreen, all the theaters have reclining seats. They play all kinds of movies. New, old, and show all the indie and even anime films that come out. They had a thursday night showing for Northman and got to see it
I laughed out loud many times during this movie. The LSD scene was gold
It's rare to see a movie that actually represents being on drugs correctly. Especially when he's trying to focus on his phone. I've been there so many times with the wide eye stare trying to see my phone, it's spot on.
100 percent. The whole audience was howling at my screening
I loved that scene, when they were scaling the wall 🤣🤣🤣 the movie theater was laughing so hard. I had a blast seeing this movie.
@@007Julie I was crying when I saw his head peek around the side of the wall 😂😂
The LSD scenes, the wall scene, the Paddington 2 scene - I was laughing my head off all the way through. Best time at the movies in years.
I explained this movie to my friends as "Nick Cage is playing Nick Cage as Nick Cage, staring... 'Nick Cage'." And it makes just as much sense in and out of context.
That's actually really fascinating about actors' relationship with their movies vs fans. And it's interesting to note that Cage isn't alone.
Daniel Radcliffe hates watching the Harry Potter movies, gives himself a REAL hard time. Andrew Garfield never watches his own movies out of the fear that "he doesn't want to kill a magic he isn't quite aware of and doesn't want to be aware of what he's doing.". The only time Adam Driver watched his own movie was The Rise of Skywalker. Constance Wu of Crazy Rich Asians doesn't watch her movies to focus on the present. Tom Hanks believes watching his movies was a huge mistake, because "you never learn what to do." It's fascinating to see people's reasonings behind why.
Imagine your first time seeing your performance is the Rise of Skywalker. Yikes
@@ryancooper4874 And keep in mine: Adam Driver gave two oscar nominated performances and he worked with a shit ton of great directors (The Coen, Spielberg,Scorsese, etc). Like, imagine being considered one of the best actors of our time and not having the confidence to see yourself in a movie...Yet he watches one of the worst he's been.
@@1997residente probably smart in the long run. Sometimes your failures are your greatest teachers
I can't bear to hear my own voice recorded or a video of myself, I cringe so hard. perhaps some actors also have a bit of this reasoning in their decision making process to not watch their own movies.
@@1997residente But then again, he's the best part of that dumpster fire of a trilogy. He played his part really well
The B-movie version is "They Call Me Bruce" Bruce Campbell gets kidnapped by a fan to fight a bean curd demon... Classic!
Guan you, Guan me, Guan D!
Isn't it "My Name is Bruce"?They Call Me Bruce is an obscure comedy Kung Fu movie from the 80s.
This is the perfect follow up to Pig, he shows off unbelievably good acting chops in Pig, then in this, gets to go off the rails in the best ways.
The film was great and it made me finally admit that Paddington 2 IS actually the 3rd best film ever made.
Yeah. If this movie does well, Paddington 2 is gonna have a big resurgence as well.
In season 5 of Community, Abed Nadir was asked "Nicholas Cage: good or bad?"
I think we're all a little closer to knowing the answer to that question now
He’s a cat. A sexy cat
my headcanon is that Abed is in Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent as the cameraman.
How did you come up with your name? Do you do movie content too?
The movie was 105min of this… it was glorious
God bless Nicholas Cage, he embraces his wackiness and we're all grateful for him. 😊👏🏽
What’s your favorite Nick Cage movie?
@@megamikethemovieman Con Air. That was so AWESOME
@@everlenaoliver6912 I still need to watch that one. My favorite is probably Lord of War, but I don’t think that movie was referenced. I reviewed Massive Talent as well on my channel, feel free to stop by to enjoy that video and my other movie content. I look forward to talking more movies with you over there.
This was a incredibley enjoyable movie. Cage deserves the love he gets. The only complaint is the CIA plot that was self-awarely inserted to create trailer moments. The movie is a very tongue in cheek valentine to the man, the myth, the legend... Nick fvcking Cage!
Ha! I get the reference.
@Neon Thunderbird lmao I think you meant Ike Barinholtz. Not donnie Wahlberg lol. And for me personally I think they had a couple good lines but thankfully only in it for like 10-15 min
loved it. "no full belly laugh moments, but constant chuckle and approval" is spot on.
oh and me and my friend did actually walk up and buy tickets at the theater today.
Everybody: “Nicolas Cage is back!!”
Nicolas Cage: “I never left.”
I literally read that last sentence in his voice.
"not that we went anywhere"
Everybody:”megamikethemovieman is back!!”
Megamikethemovieman: “I never left”
I love the mentions of Paddington 2 cause even people like Nick Cage who have big taste in movies should still appreciate the work of art that is Paddington 2
I love Nic Cage, he is my favorite actor. He has really good movies like Leaving Las Vegas, Pig, Bringing out the Dead, and even some of his recent low-tier movies like Prisoners of the Ghostland, Between Worlds, and Willy's Wonderland are enjoyable to watch, because of the weird, crazy shit he does.
He's definitely one of my top 5 too.
Nah, Willys wonderland was a cinematic masterpiece
@@frankstearns6074 It was a really fun movie, but it was dumb fun.
Don't forget 'National Treasure' movies.
Mandy and The Colour Out Of Space
I just got back from the movie. Man it’s just a wonderful, fun, light hearted self aware movie that right now felt great. Nic and Pedro are incredible together and so personable. It’s dumb of course but also it’s so clever and genuinely a fun time.
What was your favorite scene of the movie?
@@megamikethemovieman probably when they watched paddington together after getting drunk or when Nic was a pseudo spy and paralyzed himself

Jeremy, you are so much better than most critics on UA-cam
I love how the poster looks like a tribute to Miami Connect. It fits Cage perfectly.
I saw it. It is so worth seeing it! The fact that he plays two versions of himself makes it so good.
Nicolas Cage needs to have his own holiday. The dude is just an absolute legend and I will happily watch anything that he’s in
Not including the Batman this was my most anticipated movie for the year.
😂
So it was your second most anticipated
And Top Gun 2. ;-)
Same
Northman most anticipated
I think this movie would fit under the "Even better if you were drunk/high" (not that it is only good if you were)
Wow it’s been a while since a movie has had the “Worth Buying On Blue-Ray” ranking. It’s nice to see a good movie being produced for a change.
He gave an awesometacular like last week
The Northman
Figured it was going to be either epic or a train wreck. Glad to hear it's the former. Everybody always forgets Nick Cage in "Moonstruck" where he was in his 20s and the crazy hadn't been amped up yet. He even made you forget about that bizarre wooden hand. HIs "Love don't make things nice, it ruins everything, it breaks your heart", was one of the best movie scenes ever.
As a relatively new movie fan I haven't watched a lot of Nick Cage movies. I think the only one I've seen is Pig. However this is the funniest movie I have seen in a long while and the chemistry between Cage and Pedro Pascal was so great. I loved this movie a lot
Definitely check out any and all movies he's done with Jerry Bruckheimer and his early 2000's action movies . That's if you're an action movie fan, that is.
Check out Mandy and The Colour Out Of Space
Damn dude, that's your holy trinity of Cage films? I strongly encourage anything pre-1992.
I will watch anything that Nic Cage is in... including Willy's Wonderland. Man, that movie was such a bad time good time.
They really cast Nic Cage and made him a mute. Weirdest decision ever lol
Love that movie!
Willys wonderland is awesome
This is why I watch your channel. I had no idea this even existed and now I know I must go find this and watch this.
This film was such a fun ride. Just a real joy to watch Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal as a paring, is such a breath of fresh air I looooove this film. Thank you Nic Cage. The chemistry ⚗️ is so crazy between these guys they are the best buddy couple I've seen in a while. 10/10 for me.
If Cage doesn’t get an award for this film, we all know where it’s going…
He’s scraping at the door… scraping at the *DOAAAAAAGH!!!*
If any movie deserved an old school Jeremy punch ending it was this one. Excellent review as always but the missed opportunity...
Jeremy, the way you describe the way a film is, I can totally visualize it. You describe things the same way I do when it comes to movies. Love your reviews man. Keep up the awesome work.
I felt like the original idea had other Nic Cage characters from movies to come out and have a conversation with Nic Cage. But I think for legal reasons they couldn't. I doubt Disney would allow Ben Gates to be in a movie where Nic Cage is trippin' on acid 😆
Would have loved to see the Guy from Willy's Wonderland show up
I really thought it was going in that direction. Real shame it didn't. I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Benjamin FRANKLIN Gates, thank you.
@@jimthar17 you're welcome
It kinda felt like Nick Cage's entire career had been building up to this movie
It was one of those movies that you don’t think would work but then it works better than you think
The only thing I was disappointed in was the Embassy guards not being dumbfounded about wtf was going on at the end.
Well now I gotta watch Paddington 2
3:05-Yeah, I was like, "they are making Pedro way too likeable...oh...and there's WHY!"
I think people don't understand that an actor can have a great time making a terrible movie. So how an actor feels about certain movies can vary greatly from public perceptions of the movie.
They can also have a terrible time making a great movie.
I wonder if those people ever had a good time with a keg of Natty Lite.
Throughout covid times our household went through every Cage film and rated them. This film felt like a great celebration of that journey
Did you put that rating on your UA-cam channel?
This is proof good movies can still be made
Does he at any point in the film say something to the effect of "I was almost Superman, you know?"
To my recollection, no.
Not almost, or at least not anymore He got to *voice* Superman in the Teen Titans Go movie.
No, but that would have been awesome right?
My favorite movie Nick Cage was in is Knowing that came out sometime in or around 2009. I had it on Dvd and didnt have cable at the time so I ended up watching it a few too many times but enjoyed it every time.
I just rewatched Knowing 2 weekends ago! 😂🎉
The ending of that movie kinda sucked (needed to end about 10 minutes sooner, IMO), but damn everything leading up to it was a fantastic film

I was soo very worried that this movie wouldn't live up to all the hype it was getting in my brain from the previews I was seeing.... I especially loved the "Paddington 2" love and call back.

I've always liked nic cage. But the movie that cemented him as a fantastic actor (or thespian as he likes to be called) was 8mm. After watching that I wanted to see as many cage films as I could. Lol
Your reviews rock harder than a rocky thing. Love the videos brother!
A huge boulder!!!
My only issue was the tonal inconsistency around the choice to kill off characters played by traditionally comedic actors. It got weirdly dark at those scenes

What was your favorite scene with Nick & Pedro?
I think the reason we love Nic Cage so much is the reason everyone loves Jack Black: Their joyous manic energy is infectious and reminds us that being human should be fun.
Certainly, the movie is worth buying on blu-ray, c'mon, the movie would also totally be better if you're drunk too.
_Yea, now it's a party!_
My sister is a huge Pedro Pascal fan. She took me to see this movie (my first R rated flick in theatres) and we had so much fun together. I really enjoyed it. I think it's one of my favorite comedies now, mainly for Nick and Pedro's relationship. Very happy. My sister has gone back to see it every weekend, going to see it with family members
I've wanted to see the movie based on the title alone (haven't as of writing this), whoever came up with that should get some kudos as well. Agree with all the Nic Cage stuff too!
You inspire man and I love your videos. You are the main reason why I created The Movie Fan.
Just came from this and it was incredibly fun...But this is Pedro Pascal's movie all the way. Cage was great, but Pascal was hilarious and natural and cool. I would have been happy to watch Havi just wandering around for two hours.

i was pretty lukewarm about the movie but recently i (and i had to double check on letterboxd) realized i was up to 22+ new movies watched this year - streaming + theaters - and it motivated me to just watch the movies i would have waited for streaming. This movie was surprisingly great - a little *too* meta but I loved it. i will say though that if the casting were any different it wouldn't have worked. Take that how you will
should you watch it? I would say yes if you enjoy Nic Cage movies. Or if you like these sort of zany comedy movies. But if you sat down and really nit picked this movie you'd fine all these faults. But then a person like that shouldn't watch movies at all - they're too cynical.
Great thoughts on the movie. Were you a fan of Nick Cage going into this movie?
not per se. I liked face/off and kick-ass but for reasons other than nic cage were in them. Pig was incredible though but that's such a new film can you really be a nic cage fan because of it?

I will relish those hours spent with Nick and Pedro . Their friendship took me back to my own best friend in HS. This movie worked on so many levels. And the appearance of Nicky to constantly give us Jekyll & Hyde .. his insecurity spread as if he were openly bleeding when he walks into the deep end of Pedro's endless rim(can't think of the name) swimming pool is such a metaphor for acting , massive success followed by failure . The mass worship turned into ridicule overnight by media and fans in the unpredictable world of stardom .. I will argue for my third finale being ultimately gratifying with the danger and Pedro's part in that is incredible and beautiful. Trying not to say to much. And who could hate Paddington 2 bwhahaha ! I died 😭🤣
My main criticism of this movie is that casting seems way off. I understand the decision to cast Nicholas Cage but you know who would’ve been better casting? A bear with a raincoat and a red hat. Particularly the award winning actor Paddington.
Paddington 2 is peak cinema, in my opinion, and the film and actors within the film even acknowledge this. It’s like they know that Paddington would’ve played Nicholas Cage significantly better than Nicholas Cage in the movie and it was a cry for help. Pedro Pascal loves Paddington and with his connections and status im sure he’s even met him. Really feels like Nicholas Cage took on the role of Nicholas Cage just for his own ego, foregoing making artful cinema with better casting to instead boost his own ego. Very disappointed.
10/10 needs more bear
I loved the references to Mandy. It promises a buddy comedy and a celebration of Cage and it delivers on those promises.
You should watch this movie called RRR . It is an Indian film and it is an action drama . It's about two freedom fighters of India and its a fictional story telling what would happen if these two met even though they didn't in history . It has amazing action , great story and easily the most entertaining film of the year . Please watch it!!!!
Between this and Everything Everywhere All At Once, April might as well be renamed "Mind F*** Month" when it comes to movie releases this year.
What do you mean this is fictional? Isn't this a documentary of the daily life of Nic Cage?
Lmao
I’m really happy Nicholas Cage is getting the love he deserves. I’ve seen ALOT of hate on him the past few years.
