Thank you so much for sharing it. It's also my favorite Harry James album, I discovered it when I was a teenager and it's one of the few "Lps" that I wouldn't change for anything. The best of the best. (Muchas gracias por compartirlo. También es mi disco favorito de Harry James, lo descubrí cuando era adolescente y es de los pocos "Lps" que no cambiaría por nada. Lo mejor de lo mejor)
Harry James and his Orchestra : Harry James (tp,arr) A1 Yeager, Tony Scodwell, Bill King, Bob Carter (tp) Ray Sims, Jimmy Huntzinger (tb) Graham Ellis (b-tb) Joe Riggs, Everett Levey (cl,as) Corky Corcoran (ts) Rod Adams (ts,fl) Jack O'Keefe (bar) Jack Perciful (p) Don Baldwin (b) Sonny Payne (d) Hollywood, spring 1968
I remember getting this album in the early 70s - I was a trumpeter throughout middle school, high school (class of 75) and in to college. If memory serves - it was vogue back then to start recording albums that were 4 channel for those systems which were expected to take over the existing stereo systems. That never came to pass. I loved this album nonetheless. My dad loved Harry James from the late 30s and thereafter. That had a significant impact on my playing and listening habits. I still have my JBL L100s from back then.
James-this is not a 4 channel album. Decca (UK), known as London Records in the US, launched a series called "Phase 4" stereo LPs to demonstrate their recording prowess. It sort of replaced the "FFSS" brand, which sort of replaced the "FFRR" brands. Decca was renowned for its advanced recording technologies.
Got a love it and I really do my dad introduced me to Harry James and I was fortunate enough to see him at least three times live in in concert or playing dances in the Louisville or in the Louisville dad used to save copies of downbeat with World War II era news the items about the bandleaders including Harry and his Orchestra I wish I still had those but I consider myself fortunate to of seen as much is that Bandera is idea thank heavens for Chuck Cecil for educating me and keeping me up to speed with the post 1935 swing era I love it!
I do not hear many Trumpeters with the fineness of Harry James, Although Count Basie, has some very talented people playing some serious Trumpet. Arty Shaw, Gene Krupa, Glenn Miller, Four Freshman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorcey, and a whole lot of unnamed musicians are really nice to sit down and relax you
Chuck, Two comments, ! a song list , I don't care how, for the nubes to this music. 2 More grapihics to identify to Harry James, maybe a short Bio. Nice going.
Prof Davis To be honest, I have SO many Harry James posts on UA-cam that just wanted to post the music. I had a subscriber of mine request this album. Thanks for listening!
Prof Davis By the way you won't find that info about Harry anywhere. I had a long relationship with Harry, his band members and continue to do so. My Wife was the band vocalist from 1979 -1989.
I love this album in its entirety, but with You're Just Too Good to Be True (from 35:10 ) I think my wife might just file for divorce.... I've played it over 20 times now and keep howling with laughter (for while it is musically great, it's just a bit absurd) and she thinks I'm losing my mind... which I may be, but it has nothing to do with Harry.

Wonderful sound. Great recording and of course, a SUPERB performance of Harry James and his orchestra i love that music. Thanks for posting
The sound is very multi miked and quite artificial IMO.
Harry James, Louis Armstrong and Lebert Lombardo are my favorite trumpet players from the Big Band era. This Phase 4 LP is tremendous...thank you!
harry est, comme d'habitude, génial technique et virtuosité au rdv . Un vrai régal. Merci chuck

My Favorite James album
@@ChuckParDue1953 It's a pretty amazing album - and Harry was always at the forefront of recording technology,, from stereo to quad!
Nice selection of tunes. Pity the engineers used so many microphones.
