I don't normally like Dixieland but have always liked this album and the combination with the main band, many thanks for posting!

Going thorough my parents old albums I decided to give this one a listen. WOW, it blew me away. Used to think their music was square. Now I regret keeping all their old stuff. My copy is barely audible, thanks for the post...

Thanks Chuck for posting. Love how restrained Buddy shows playing Dixie! A very nice tight session.

Harry’s entrance to the first song is just too good 😂💯

Thank you! Some of the tracks of the album were later made available on CD by Verve but not all. This is an interesting departure for Harry--not that his other albums from the 1960's didn't feature great playing but the Basie influence was sometimes a little overpowering.

He plays in the spirit of Satchmo...but with "book learned"chops!

According to the Jazz Discography by Tom Lord, it's Jake Hanna playing drums here (rec LA, 11-12 Mar 63). It does sound more like Buddy, though.

It is absolutely Buddy Rich. Buddy had just replaced Jake Hanna.
I have found Lord's discographies to be quite unreliable.

@@ChuckParDue1953 by now I could check the liners for the Verve Jazz Masters 55 CD, which offers "The Truth" as well as "Cornet Chop Suey" with the following credits:
The Dixieland Five: James, Dick Cathcart (tp) Ray Sims (tb) Matty Matlock (cl, arr) Eddie Miller (ts)
Orchestra: Rob Turk, Larry McGuire, Nick Buono, Fred Koyen (tp) Joe Cadena (tb) Dick McQuary (btb) Willie Smith, Joe Riggs (as) Corky Corcoran, Dave Madden (ts) Ernie Small (bs) Jack Perciful (p) Dempsey Wright (g) Red Kelly (b) Buddy Rich (d)
So the Verve/MGM listings seem to indicate basically the same musicians, except that the newer Verve CD apparently uses the names we are used to, e.g. for Tom „Red“ Kelly. (I am assuming that's what the asterisks are supposed to indicate in your original listing?)
For what it’s worth, the Verve CD gives the recording date as July 30, 1962 in Hollywood.
I have alerted Tom Lord to the discrepancies, am sure he will sort it out (at least that's my experience from the previous alerts/corrections I pointed out to him).
Oh did I mention I find this a most enjoyable album? Thanks for uploading the stereo version of it (archive.org only offered the mono)

Does my late father David H. Madden have any solos on this album, Chuck?

No. Eddie Miller plays all the tenor solos.
