Great explanation! Just bought a 2006 and the fan blows but doesn't get cold and the compressor motor does move - can't wait to see if this helps!

I have a 2006 Ford Explorer, and the AC compressor comes on when the control switch is not set on ac, it comes on for a while blows cold air then stops, I have to pull the AC compressor relay out because it was driving me nuts. Now it's getting hot out so I put the relay back in and it's doing the same thing. When I turn the switch on for cooling to max the compressor runs great it cools then shuts off after a few miles and will not come back on. Any advice,

@ Lehew Tech good info i have a problem with my explorer a/c in which i am getting constant power at the relay not for the pin you highlighted red but for the power control module pin. And i have no ground at the ground pin. So i grounded the fround pin to the body and now the compressor is engaged all the time.....I had the A/C tech check the system and he said the freon is good. A/C blows ice cold by the way.

What's the best way to find a +12v trigger from the AC to turn on my electric fans?

  • @edwardrinehart2125

I've checked all the contacts and found there is no Ground at the Clutch Relay. There is Power from the Battery as well as to the Relay when the Switch is in the 'On' Position. I'v jumped the High and Low Safety Switches and they are fine. I can manually ground the Relay Contact and get the entire system to work and cool. It is a 2004 Ford Explorer with the Manual Climate Controls, And connections look good and clean. I'm not sure how to check the Wide Open Throttle Position Sensor, but the car runs and drives good. I've read that the ground is controlled by the CPU, but not sure how to check that. A 'Code Reader' doesn't show any Faulty Codes, But I only have an Inexpensive Code Reader. The Manual Controls seem to work in all positions and the AC 'On' Light, Lights Up, Any help would be appreciated.

I think I am having an issue where the Control unit in the dash is intermittent because my relay is good and it blows cold when it works but sometimes, in a random manner, the blower stays on and it'll stop blowing cold and then , maybe..maybe not, the AC will kick back in. It's annoying. (06 Explorer)

    • @old_romans

@@RegulerShowTV I've been working on it lately. I had leaks at the AC valves and they were stuck so I just replaced all the hoses. I got a new relay and a new low side pressure switch and harness. HOWEVER, I decided to replace the valve cover gaskets and spark plugs and wires. wow, that bolt near the firewall for the intake was a duesey. Also, the EGR tube was stuck in place so that was...a pain to deal with when I went to put the valve cover gasket and the intake manifold back on. While all of this, I had to move electrical harnesses around, and in doing so, discovered four connectors where the sheathing on the wires was crumbling off...the Fan Clutch connector, the throttle body connector, the AirFlow sensor connector and one other I can't remember but I repaired them all. I started the car and now there is a misfire, there is grey smoke and the exhaust smells like fuel, so I suspect a defective spark plug or wire. The AC was blowing cold though, but it wasn't on long enough for me to say that it works 100%. I'm busy studying so I don't get a lot of time to work on it, but tomorrow, I'll test the ignition parts, because I suspect there's fuel because of the smell but no spark in one cylinder...yes, the firing order and wires on the coils positions are correct, I'm using a Haynes manual. Hopefully there isn't a crumbled harness somewhere that I can't see.

@@RegulerShowTV On a recent trip, I used a bypass device on the relay and it worked the entire trip, but the position actuator stopped working, so I could not put heat on the glass to defrost nor could I cool the people space in the heat, even though the blower was working and you could feel the hot and cold air coming out of the inside of the dash, so it wasn't efficient and it neither cooled or heated very well. Old- car problems. I'll have to replace those actuators

I have. A 2006 Ford Explorer it’s fully charged ac blows ice cold but I have no idea why randomly it goes hot for example Monday it worked great after my 40 minute commute to work blew cold. After work on my commute home it blew hot air outside temperature was 100 degrees by the way so it decided to start blowing cold like about 3 minutes before I got home but yea it’s frustrating where do I start smh I’ll appreciate any input

Question, so my ac compressor keeps coming on and going off. On/off, on/off. I can hear a small click it will spin for a second then stop. Then a couple seconds later it will do it again. This keeps happening over and over and the ac never actually comes on.

    Hi
I have ford explorer 2008 v8 which have a problem with AC. The problem is that driver side temperature is higher than the passenger side ( passenger side is cold enough but driver side is like warm) even if i put lowest temperature i observe also the driver side temperature became like only air without coldness at all when i increase the fan to more than 3 speed, i have replaced the driver side blend door actuator ,i have changed also ac pressure switch both high and low , and changed the ac control valve ( small plastic piece) , freon was low so i added freon. i have also a code ( ac clutch relay circuit -P0645)
Can you please advise what to do next ???
