0:00 Intro - Click show more under the video to read more.
0:05 The engine will have to be replaced once again. They think the engine was at an air-fuel ratio of 19-20 which is very lean!
0:21 When you buy new windshield wipers, these protective covers are on most wiper blades. The customer never removed them.
0:27 The shop advised the customer to go see a body shop to get the roof repaired and have the antenna reinstalled.
0:39 As mentioned the "brake fluid leak" was automatic transmission fluid leaking from a bottle.
1:02 The steering wheel was dirty and had to be cleaned.
    1:11 No extra info.
1:22 It's an 8-speed automatic transmission fluid (Chrysler) and the customer put ATF-4 back in, which it does not require. So the check engine light came on as numerous DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) were set for the transmission. Oil was leaking everywhere as well.
1:37 The technician said it was actually in for a suspension noise/concern, but he could not find it or diagnose the issue until he removed the watermelon as it was so loud.
1:51 If the vehicle comes back to the shop, I'll give an update on what they find!
2:02 Happened in the UK. No extra information.
2:12 Hopefully they get new tires soon so it does not cause further a lot of damage like the photo previously shown.
2:24 Customer is trying to get the insurance company to cover the costs of damages. (Just happened)
2.39 The battery hold-down was left loose and touched the positive battery terminal.
2:49 "That was an old Mercedez-Benz s600 that had multiple control unit issues... but far as the battery, I believe it was shorted internally... jumped backwards* the charging system was 14.3V to the battery if I remember right."
3:00 No extra info. But a very weird find!
3:12 1964 VW Bug. Still has the 6v electrical system!
    3:25 Outro. Thanks for watching!

This is what I would call a compilation of "blooming idiots", only fast tracked blooming idiots is more like it!! As for
some people that do have common sense, at least those kinds of people will at least investigate or at least take a
closer look at the situation and at least after doing so, then take it to a mechanic to have that car checked out! But
oh no, not on their lives would they, nor could they ever, ever, ever do that! I suppose that is why there is insurance
adjusters and State Police that are specially trained to locate and find mechanical failures and also special investig-
ators that are trained to reconstruct accident scenes. And so certain people that cause such accidents and make
everybody's insurance rates go through the ceiling should not only be fined and forced to pay restitution, but depend-
ing on the severity, should also permanently loose their license and go to jail! I'm watching this channel for the first
time and I am here to tell yah that these types of events only just touches the tip off the iceberg when it comes to

You know that one guy that called a mechanic to check his car at home for a leaking break line still did the right thing. Its better then him trying to drive it to a mechanic and have the brakes actually fail on him.

    • @mxpants4884

      Absolutely. Or have it towed.
Might sound obvious, but I don't think it would have occurred to me before I started working in a shop:
Call the shop and ask for a recommendation. A tow that isn't an emergency should generally be a small fraction of what you pay at the side of the road, or when your car gets impounded. (Though it does depend on the distance and complexity of the service.)

Unless you know what you're doing, don't be a dumbass. There's plenty of people who will risk shit on their own assumptions. What we should be preaching is being safe rather than sorry. One of my vehicles needed brake work last fall, I looked at a few videos and was working myself up to replacing the pads, but the more videos I watched, the more I was convinced it needed rotors and probably calipers too. I knew that that was really beyond my mechanical skills so I drove it to the shop without tearing everything apart and needing it to be towed.

Was in high school in the mid 70’s during the muscle car craze. Some of us had serious hot rods and used to hang out in the parking lot and talk cars. Had this one guy that really wanted to hang with us but he wasn’t exactly a “car guy” and drove a VW Beetle. We all have to start somewhere and learn so we suffered him and let him hang out. We were all talking about winterizing our cars and he said he’d already done his. We all looked at him like WTH, you drive a Beetle it’s air cooled. The asked him where the hell did you put the antifreeze? He had drained the crankcase and put it in there. We were surprised he made it to the school. We offered to tow his car home for him but he decided to drive it instead. Needless to say he wound up walking most of the way home. 🙄😂

@@theotherohlourdespadua1131 : In fact, Beetles need to "summerised". The engines tend to overheat, at least here in warm Australia they do. When they were common, you often heard them popping and banging going down hills due to unburnt fuel in the exhaust muffler due burnt exhaust valves. Many people used to fit external air scoops to try and get the engine temperature down. In kombi vans the extra air scoops were pretty much mandatory if you wanted the engine to last.

@@VWNate1 : Yeah, sure mate, and I am Henry Ford.
The VW Beetle and its engine was designed in the 1930's as a cheap and nasty thing per the Nazi concept of People's (ie low income peasants') this and that. Volks-radio (only 3 tubes), Volks-refrigerator, etc. Germany is a cold country. The designers never anticipated it would be sold around the world.
I worked for a large company that had a fleet of cars. One year they bought a quantity of VW's. One time I visited the service centre - they had along one wall about 20 or so VW engines with the heads off, all showing clear signs of over-heating - burnt pistons and exhaust valves with bits missing. Being company cars, they were all stock and all maintained to specified schedule.
That company only bought Beetles in one year. Not only did the engines suffer from overheating, drivers didn't like the floor-pivoted pedals, which were not very safe.
Beetle engines and even Kombi engines could survive a reasonable number of years in private use when used for city commuting and not carrying any weight, albiet with the standard rough running, plus popping and banging going down hills due burnt & pitted valves. But in commercial service they could be hard to start and show low compression in as little as a single summer.
Here in Australia, if you needed a light van, there were only 2 available - the VW Kombi, and the English Commer - both were crap - the Kombis overheating and the Commers gutless and unreliable. Then came the Toyota Hi-Ace van, which pretty much ended sales of Kombis and Commers. And the Toyota Celica & Datson, which ended sales of the VWW Beetle. Why? Because the Japanese cars didn't overheat and sound dreadful.

    • @spaceflight1019
      @spaceflight1019 8 місяців тому +20

For starters, there are a number of major mechanical changes that must be done with pressurized induction.
Head gaskets are different, and the gaskets are O-ringed.
Compression ratios are lower, usually with different pistons.
The exhaust system must be able to withstand the higher heat.
The state of tune is critical because the engine will "ping", or detonate, massively (for a short time, before a piston is holed) from the altered combustion environment.

The overheating issue was caused by one of the fans on the dual fan assy not working. One of the tires on the front had a big bulge in the sidewall. One of the calipers in the rear was seized and missing the brake pads.
I politely informed the customer he needed to address the other issues before worrying about the radio. The customer purchased a pack of fuses and drove away.

Now it comes in a primer gray so it can be painted the same color as your vehicle. Now it costs 3x as much to buy it, paint it, and have it installed. So I decided it's gonna stay primer gray and I installed it myself. Thanks Ford for your infinite wisdom. You took something that was working just fine as a flat matte black plastic antenna cover and decided to "upgrade" only to cost the consumer way more money than it needed to be. In what universe is it faster and cheaper to hire a professional to find these for you?? 😂 Ah well, it's a quick fun fix for the autoshop team at least - maybe it makes a nice change from all the gunked-up oil pans and destroyed clutch assemblies... 🤷🏻‍♀️

It takes a certain level of mechanical clue to understand what to look for. I mean, if you were writing instructions how to diagnose that noise, I bet the words "watermelon" or "Styrofoam cooler" would not appear until the second paragraph.
I know people who are otherwise functional, but get a wicked case of the Stupids around anything mechanical. Like when a wooden door began to sag on the hinges, they modified the door to fit crooked because they just never thought about the hinges.

Perhaps they are lawyers. My wife was born into a lawyer family and was a law clerk, Both her brothers are lawyers, and through them I know other lawyers. They are all pretty dumb and waste a lot of money. Things like paying someone to come to their house once a month and change the batteries in every thing that is battery operated - including the items having rechargeable batteries.
Question: how people does an office boy need to change a light globe in his flat?
Answer: None, he'll do it himself.
Question; how many people does a lawyer need to change a light globe in his penthouse?
Answer; one law clerk to draw up a contract, one security guard to let the contactor into the penthouse, and one electrical contractor - three people.
One time my wife and I stayed with her lawyer brother for a week. He had been paying some kid to regularly mow his lawn using his own lawnmower. While we were there the kid turned up but said he couldn't start the mower as the rope broke. Lawyer brother said to us that this had happened before, no big deal, he knew a local mechanic who could fix the rope for ~$100. So I walked to a nearby hardware store, bought a cheap 8 mm spanner to get the cover nuts off, and some small engine rope, came back and in 2 minutes fitted the rope and started the mower. Lawyer brother said "How can you know to do that? You are an electronics engineer, not a mechanic. Maybe I should still take the mower to the mechanic to make sure its all right."

I just don’t get why you would have wheels that expensive on a street car. No matter how careful you are, sooner or later you’ll ding them and it’ll cost 50x more to fix than an alloy wheel.

for the guy that tire blew after the mechanic told him to replace it: It should be completly legal to charge that guy the "Idiot I told you Fee" of a additional 100 bucks minimum

Oh don't worry, once the insurance adjuster gets a look at the other three tires, they'll get what's coming to them.

That windshield wiper cover one was exactly how my parents were.
They bought a new windshield wiper for the car, and for a year they drove with it thinking it was just a stupid product... Until my mom cleaned the car and noticed the cover. It's hilarious to remember

3:00 I had a classmate in tech school that kept a bottle of powdered spice in his engine bay. He got along with a lot of people very well, yet when anyone asked about his bottle of spice, he never gave anyone an answer. We would go to lunch in large numbers together, nobody saw it anywhere else but his engine bay
