In this video, I play GM Varuzhan Akobian in a hard fought battle emerging from a Queen's Gambit Declined. After the game, we analyze the critical moments and provide many lessons to take away. This is the first video in a series of games that I played against Var. Each video will feature game play with commentary along with instructive analysis.
Unfourtunately, the vod of Var's commentary got deleted, but I still highly recommend checking out his educational chess content on Twitch and UA-cam:

Tbh, Var Akobian sounds like an opening.
Lol never realised but true
He is an opening
Akobian accepted, Advanced Rosen variation
@@sadeghsaati1335 doesn't that usually end in a Botez gambit?
Two of the nicest chess guys playing chess and then analysing like friends.
What more could you want from a short video.
Well…
short…?
@@poseidonsmafia1160 I'm certain that you have not played a classical timed game over the board. My logic dictates if you had played a 7 hour game over the board where every move you're forced to calculate as far ahead as you can. Perhaps a 7 hour final exam where the outcome determines your future is a better example for you. You may, afterwards, consider a 17 minute video to be not as long. (esp. considering you can watch this at x1.25 / x1.5 speeds)

I agree, that is correct.
I love eric serious mode when he clinch his fist and bring it closer to his face
I think i am addicted to watching 2 good players analyzing their game together and exchanging their ideas.
2 good players or too good players?

Even though it hurts me to see eric lose a game I'm really in awe about his humility to show it to the rest of the world for us to learn from his mistakes
well they both worked in st louis so they are pretty close friends
Eric's an IM and var is a strong gm
Keep this format going Eric. These videos are so instructive and great fun to watch. Big thanks to you
God mode thumbnails.
Love the analysis after the games
Two lovely players...
Playing against each other and analysing together.. this is gem ,♥️
Always educational. Thanks, Eric!
Glad to see this collab with Var. I watched a lot of his older videos with St Louis Chess Club when I first started playing.
that was a dope video. thank you, eric and var!
I could listen to the two of you discussing games post mortem all day. The most chill dudes exchanging ideas. It's soothing and at the same time helpful for my chess. I hope for more, thank you Eric!
You and Akobian are my 2 favorites to learn chess from. You both explain the game so well
Awesome, thanks for the video!
9:24 "I also have this move, attacking kind of not really"
Great video, exciting game, terrific to have the collaborative post-mortem too. Thank you. One tiny quibble: Alekhine's gun is not just tripling on a file, it's tripling on a file with both rooks in front of the queen.
I love how Eric is teaching GMs using his on point teaching skills
Hey Eric love ur vids man! also pls keep no music :)))
Really cool hearing both sides. 👌
Move 52 Nb4 is a forced checkmate sequence if white doesn't trade for the rook. Haven't seen any discussion of it yet and it's fairly obvious
Akobian is such a boss, love his lectures.
4:37 Alekhine's Gun is when the queen is behind the two rooks on a file (not just when the three major pieces are lined up in any order).
Akobian its such a teacher, He really teach me to play. I enjoy this encounter deeply
I've seen Akobian's lectures at the St Louis Chess Club. He seems like a really cool guy.
Var needs to step it up on his You Tube channel. It would be interesting to hear his comments during the game.
HE has a youtube channel?
Oh no, my GM! GGs
At least the pawns are smiling🙂
Hello Eric!
I love that u stream with Var. he’s an inspiration for the Armenian community (along with Levon Aronian and Tigran petrosian of course)
Eric is so underrated . He should be a gm
He's scary good. Respect
Man he’s really strong. For some reason it’s more apparent when you’re watching from Var’s opponents side.
Nice game master
Varuzhan video has been deleted but his version of what happened commentary version starts at 10:00
Needed to pause this video on my friend's birthday to listen "Ptico moja beli labude"
The guy on the thumbnail looks like Garry on the first look. I mean, I thought it's Garry when I saw it and I was like: " Whoa man, Eric is gonna play Garry that's just INSANE!" but then I realized that it's not Garry!☹ But still the video is great!!
im sooo happy
Wow Akobian sir is the best chess teacher according to me.. He's that man whose online class inspired me to learn chess.. Thanks Eric for uploading this game..❤️❤️
Me too. I learned from him and Ben F. Plus John B and Danny R. The original Avengers.

Eric Great great great great
It says at the bottom “press enter to focus.” What’s that all about please?
it's for blind games. you press enter to focus the text box, and then you type the move you want to play. a computer voice will tell you what your opponent plays.
When’s next stream?
No one knows. Join Twitch and follow Eric to get notifications.

nice game
1:24 wow that's sucha strong knight
5:29 that's another one
But Eric, I was thinking you'd play the "more exotic" Na6 and Akobian would "get afraid of Nb4 and play a3"!
Ref. STLCC d4 video by Eric xD
I actually played the Na6 line against Var a few years ago in an OTB rapid game. He handled it well. I never got the chance to play the Bd6 line against Var previously, so I was excited to play it in this game.
@@eric-rosen Wow I can't believe you replied! I've watched your STLCC videos so much that now sometimes when I watch it again I can tell exactly what you're about to say the very next moment. Really love you man! You're the most humble person I've ever met online. Only because of you London became my main opening repertoire. Wish you good health and looking forward to seeing the GMEricRosen domain working soon!! Love you 3000!❤
Someone please explain me the h2 Bishop sacrifice plzz
It just sets up a mating net I think
Close but no cigar
why desnt the queen go to c7?
9:21 knight to g4? had to go back and check.
Yeah someone else mentioned that earlier on and it seems it is winning but Eric was in time trouble so hard to play precise moves in those circumstances.
But in the end, it doesn't even matter.
Also, why does the gm sound like a sophisticated peter griffin?
Have you heard the word?
@@thisisisabella3634 1. f4's the word
@@skysphr c4 is explosive.
Yo what’s up Eric?
yo!
Akobian is so nice.
I can't say if that's you or Kasparov in the thumbnail.
6:00 26. Kxe5 wins a pawn it seems. Edit: sorry, I typed it wrong, shoud be 26. Nxb5 that wins back a pawn.
Are you drunk?
@@31redorange08 If I check the engine, it does not appear to be a good move, as the bisshop ends up a little misplaced, but it does win back a pawn.
Oh wait, I mistyped sorry 😅
Move sounds are kinda loud on this one
I thought GM VAR could recheck all the moves and take them back.
Bro I was in the raid
var's voice is fucking beautiful
Why dont you challenge GM ERIC ROSE 🌹 N
2 minor pieces weren’t that strong with the king open. That were more targets than strengths
It's ah-leh-heen. He was Russian, just lived in France, which is why his name is spelled so weirdly.
Weird spelling across countries goes both ways.
Hans becoming Gans, Harry becoming Garry, and so on.
So leave foreigners be, at least they don't complain about H becoming a G suddenly😂
Probably cuz they don't know it happens, but still.

You are a really good player, you just go slow, I see you lose seconds almost every play
I only analyse games that I win. No wonder I m stuck at 1900
Why would you analyse a game that you won? If you win you probably have little to learn from that game.
@@cheesiechess3656 Just to see what I missed. Like when I play I know where I am ahead (and that will be evident from the ±1 or more advantage) but there may be situations when the opponent blundered and I didn't capitalize on that. 😂I know I am weird.
That makes sense for a low rated player, but at your level, if you win it's generally because you played better, and not because he/she played worse, if you understand what I mean.
Let's see if Eric reads the comments.
