"I was very happy to win in Tal's own style, although I recognized that his poor play in this game was due to illness. In fact, he withdrew from the tournament after the first half for medical treatment. Still, I am proud to have played at least one game against Misha Tal"
Anand, in his "My Best Games of Chess" book.
Yes it's true
You cannot hate Anand , such a lovely person
@@UA-camisZionistTool nobody hates Anand

Anand is the only chess player who after defeating Tal didn't showcase his ego instead made a reason for tal saying the only reason he won was due to the illness affecting Mikhail Tal
Ikr? He's so down to earth.
Unlike Kasparov who was Always cocky to many players including radjabov
@@sravanthch2879 Cocky against 16 year old radjabov? You mean salty?
@@dominus6224 yeah whatever but what he did and said wasn't good at all and discouraged radja
@@sravanthch2879 Difficult time with comprehensive reading? You call Kasparov “cocky” and use the example of radjabov. He wasn’t “cocky” against him, he was salty. How about you say less “yeah whatever” and read a book or two? Might help you out.
Tal has the possibility for a beautiful knight sacrafice in this game, but he didn't go for it. Declining health is probably the reason. At this point he was very sick, i'm impressed he could even play chess games. Dont't forget that this guy crushed Bobby Fischer 4 times. Only losing 2 matches against him. Real legend.
Beerdy - Bruce Lee Central He was very sick? You are talking about the guy that defeated Kasparov on his death bed.(in a blitz tournament a month prior to his death)
By the later stages of his life, Tal was less of the player that he was and was more conserved. He wasnt as crazy as he was in his prime
Tal never defeated 16+ years old Fischer
Don’t even compare tal to Fischer
Beerdy - Bruce Lee Central
Gosh, I hated the sentence "and in this position, Mikhail Tal resigned." It actually bothers me so much.
me too :(

Highly intellectual and relevant remark
This is what happens when Tal doesn't sacrifice
he can't sacrifise king u dumb he couldn't sac any Shit he had no chance
He was being sarcastic. grouchy pants
Yesss! It just doesn't feel like Tal. I guess we've watched too many tal brilliancies and now we find it hard to believe that Tal played ordinary boring games too..
He sacrificed his king.
More like when Tal plays a modern player who never gives him the chance TO sacrifice.
So much better now you've started using arrows and highlighting squares to help the commentary
I didn't know if people will like it, but I decided to give it a go
agadmator's Chess Channel Loved it :)
I always thought it was the one thing lacking in your videos - it really helps in explaining ideas and variations without the need to actually move all the pieces, but is clearer than merely talking about the ideas without anything visual. I think you just need to practise at it, Jerry from Chess-Network uses it very well!
I like them too. Nice addition!
I really dont like the arrows, but is ok for me
the old Anand, which is the young Anand, was great, and new Anand, who is the old Anand, is suspicious
-Ben finegold, 2015
Because Anand was my favorite current player for a long time( before the rise of Carlsen), I thought long and hard about how and why his chess style changed so drastically, and for the worse I might add.
It was finally revealed to me in a quote that some of my thoughts were correct. Anand said at one time that he thought his job as World Champion was NEVER TO LOSE A SINGLE GAME. (This is a paraphrase, and it may be true that he said "To lose as few games as possible" or "I felt that as World Champion I should not be losing games").
If you realize that this was his idea of what "Chess World Champion" was, you can see how his style changed from trying to win to trying not to lose, and how that affected not only his results but also our level of entertainment as spectators. At the time I thought it was because he was trying desperately to hold to his throne, but I realize it was his attempt to represent chess. Either way, it's sad that he adopted such a faulty view of what a World Champion is because he inadvertently cheated himself and the world out of the wonderful games he was capable of playing in his prime.
After he lost the WC you can see how his style became much more dynamic again, but alas, we lost many years of games that he is not capable of producing with the same consistency today as he was then.
firendable that's an obvi home prep. A book move would be developing Nf6
Best comment 😂
Better suspicious than suspect
The chess talent of ben finegold is also suspicious.
Anand admits in many interviews tht his favourite player is Tal !
Anand favourite player is bobby fischer
Aditya Vadali Anand's favourite player is RJ Fischer.
Yk Kachchhava no, he admits RJF is the G.O. A.T , but his fav is Tal. There is a difference
Aditya Vadali Link to where Anand says Mikhail Tal is his favourite player ??
Dr. MG M Search in Google "Anand : My favourite player growing up was Mikhail Tal " . Ull find an interview in April 2013
You're the reason I don't get much sleep these days but thanks for rekindling my interest in chess.
Anand played well, Tal seemed a little off beat and uninspired. I think he just woke up after an entire night playing Rashid Nezhmetdinov with vodka shots for every sacrificed piece...
That a very young Nepo :D
nuwandalton Got him mixed up with Nezhmetdinov...
I hope this is true.
Nezhmetdinov died 13 years before this game in 1975
Perry I think it was 1974 actually, but I was just trying to make a little joke. Can we say Tal was up playing chess and downing vodka with Nezhmetdinov's ghost all night then?
Wow - I can’t believe they actually played each other. Anand went on to be a wonderful champion.
Anand at that time was already very strong close to his prime.
12:00 Anand plays a Tal move against Tal!
Yeah modern problems require modern solutions
Amazing game by Anand!! Winning vs Tal with black pieces is something you can be proud of. Salutations to you Antonio from Québec,
Canada, and thank you for the good commentary. You're the one who got me interested in chess. :D
I like how you showed a game that your favorite player lost. I'm still going through the Bronstein 1953 Zurich book. So many great games there. Hope you can highlight a few more in the future.
Gill Rowley ivanchuk is secretly his favorite player
How's it a secret?
You are the best chess analyzer I have seen so far! And please do a series of Mikhail Tal games. Nothing better than enjoying a game by Mikhail Tal along with your commentary. Keep up the great work Mr. Agadamator!
Mahela Wickramasinghe just go to his playlist and select mikhail tal

wow Anand defeated Tal with black pieces .. by attacking :)
Tal was a little off in this game
He had to take meds too but Anand played skillfully too
That symmetrical English was aesthetically pleasing to look at for several moves deep.
Like many others probably, I am here after the new video where Anand swept a tournament.
Thts unexpected "Tal cant lose when he has white pieces even against himself"
Good job by Mr. Anand
Amazing that he got to play Tal. Thanks for covering this game. He passed away too soon.
Hey agadmator..I'm waiting for anand to tweet "nice"...and tell you the reason why he played Qc2😅
I don't think Anand tweets :D
Probably was no reason, he was just too busy thinking what he was going to eat that night😂

Supposedly Fischer was the only professional chess player to visit Tal when Tal was in the hospital for his kidney disease. If true, so sad that other players failed to visit him!
This video deserves a remake with duration over 20 minutes

For me Tal is the King of Chess. There are players who are statistically better than him, but his games are so creative that they can't ever be copied. He played on another level!!!
Damn he just out magic the magician!
Anyway
They r legends
great explanation. .. Anand was immortal
Those who are trying to defend Tal because of his poor health and taking away credit from Vishy, should also consider that even Anand was just 19 years old kid who became GM just few months before this game ( and 12 years before he became WC first time) + black pieces + the pressure of playing against such a great player and attacking maniac. Tal is one of my all time favourite player but winning WC 5 times is not a joke...
Check out some classical games of Tal ...you will know what he was like in his prime
@@1612Dan Watch "Mikail Tal takes his opponent into a deep, dark forest" by ChessNetwork. Just one good example of his games
It doesn't take away from Vishy unless the person says something disrespectful for example if they say Tal was stronger. All I saw was people saying Tal was sick and didn't play well.
Anand was the reason I came to know about chess when I was 6 and then got addicted. Best wishes from India!

Amazing game by Anand. To hold his nerves against a legend at such a young age shows he was always meant to achieve big things.
Seeing this video feeling very proud being an Indian 😁
Losers make excuses and winners let them do it. Very nice vishy anand, you made India proud
5:32 Anyone noticed the dog🐶 how chill 😄
Liked before watching :)
Mr Agadmator, pls share this video to Viswanathan Anand on twitter. Maybe he replies like Kasparov.
It is very interesting because if I am not mistaken, the chess club where Vishwanathan Anand sharpened his skills in Chennai ( formerly Madras) was the " Mikhail Tal Chess club". Although I am from India and an avid fan of Anand, it is very sad to see Mikhail Tal lose. He is the most flamboyant player that this great game has ever seen. One person who caused absolute mayhem on the chess board and made all those pieces come to life. There can only be one Mikhail Tal
please make more videos on games of vishy anand
One stop channel for a wonderful analysis of wonderful games played by brilliant minds
Relentless attack by Anand stumps the magician!
Oh wow, great to see these two legends playing a game. Thank you, Agadmator.
Maybe Anand also come in summer to Croatia, to play chess?
I think temperatures shouldn't be that problem: in India there are also hot summers ;)
When it comes to sacrifice and win the game, no one can beat the Tall, He is such a lezend and in this game mostly he forgot to sacrifice and sacrifice himself.😍
It genuinely hurts seeing Tal lose
True
*True tsk😢*
I'm deeply hurt too I love Tal
sent back to the past from agad's latest video 🙏
I watched a few of your games since you've been off with eye surgery lately, I think this one is going to be one of my favorites. I'm getting caught up because I was working 60 hours a week for a long time and missed several of your videos. Thanks for all you do for chess brother! Cheers Nostrovia
Anand is one of the best positional and tactical player of all times in my humble opinion!!
Excellent game..Young Anand vs. Veteran Tal
Well that was unexpected. Tal defeated by Vishy. But i think tal wasn't keeping in good health at the time. Correct me if im wrong
+TUSHAR BASRA Tal was never in good health
agadmator's Chess Channel lmao 👆🏻😂👍🏼 Perfect reply 😎
I think he lost because vishy's style simply doesn't allow fierce attacks
He abused on alcohol and tobacco
Andrei Dumitru Focsanu yes he did. But perhaps Tal wouldn't be SUCH a great attacker without being himself. 😂
the name of the tournament was Cannes schev
Everytime Agadmator uploads a video during my bed time & i sleep peacefully after watching it 😍❤️😎✌🏻
You are the best Chess commentator, period. Love the commentary
Congrats Bro! I think this one is among your best commentaries, ever! I'm learning a lot, thanks to you.
That's incredible consistency!
Anand is a natural talent ❤
For those who dont know the story behind this game. Anand himself mentioned that in one of his interviews "I was not very happy winning against Tal. Tal's health was severely declining and he could not concentrate enough." I am proud of Anand but Tal is the world's best and people's fav player. Alcohol and Cigarettes damaged Tal's health. I wish he would have lived more and showered us with his brilliant games.
never thought that tal played against anand
A wonderful game between two real gentlemen.
I was so sad when agadmater said “Mikhail Tal resigned”
If Anand had the training that Kasparov received. Anand would have been the greatest chess player of all time

I love great Tal(magician) legendary player
Hard to say exactly where Tal went wrong,,,, a very subtle takeover !!! Just like a Master !!! 😁🖒♕♔
Never knew that vishy was lucky enough to play with tal..
I'd give my right hand just to have been able to see him play..
Tal withdrew from the tournament after the first half for medical treatment
One man and his dog who seems to be on every video makes a change from alekhine and his cat
Sometimes I check up to see what the dog is up to whilst thinking about the position
The delivery of the game is at the right pace
Well done
As a Tal admirer, I cringed so much at so many moves Tal played in this game..the guy’s tactical play was never this off. 😞
He died 2 years after this tournament. Tal withdrew from the tournament after the first half for medical treatment. It's hard to maintain such high standards of play until death. Do you think your expectations of another human being were a little high?

Ohh my God...they played each other???!!!!
I miss Fischer so much!!!
Here Tal is very old, and this affected his focus. He was the only one who was equal to Fisher
Probably anand was a terrific player too.
I dunno how ive missed this video before

Didn't know about 'en passant' before. Thanks to this analysis that I know this move now.

The Only Game Ever Played between Mikhail Tal and Viswanathan Anand
Anand was invincible when he was young.....
It's from the "Tournoi de Generations" tournament held in Cannes, France 1989.
Some of the other participants included Spassky, Larsen, Adams, Lautier, and Ulf Andersson
I love thinking about these generations. World Champ Tal played against many other world champions. I think the first was Max Euwe, who was born in 1901.
Tnx for the contribution to the chess world I would really want to see Tal vs Ivanchuk
As soon as i saw an Anand game I knew there would be indians in the comment section fighting for their pride.

Did that really happen??? I still can't believe this
We are already supporting u by watching lol
This is where the era of "magician from riga" ended and was taken over by modern chess players. Absolutely the best attacking player of all time.
Are u sure it was TAL ? 🤐

Are you sure you are Jesse Eisenberg
@agmadator: Your channel is the best. I learn so much. Thankyou.
That was the old Tal version ... the young one would have made fun of Anand so easily ....
Maybe the 40-year-old Tal would have run over the the 19-year old Anand, but against the 40-year-old Anand, he might have hit a brick wall.
PN Houle Yup 😎
But Tal beat Kasparov days before he died.. so I think this was most likely either an off game or he didn't expect this from Anand
Don Cuyson I think that was a blitz game...
making excuses is lame buddy
Agadmator gets a distinction for pronouncing “en passant” correctly 🥇
This game was played in the Tournoi de Generations in Cannes France 1989
I am a great fan of your channel, thank you for your analysis, #suggestion more Tal games please
This is very interesting as Anand as a young boy sharpened his craft by going to the " Mikhail Tal" chess club in Madras( Now called as Chennai). So the inimitable Mikhail Tal was an inspiration to Vishy too :) There can only be one Mikhail Tal
