    This format highlights the superior chess understanding of Magnus over his contemporaries. In my view, he is the GOAT of modern chess, even better than Fischer, Kasparov and Karpov, who were phenomenally successful because of their great opening preparation. Magnus, on the other hand, can outplay anyone from any dynamically equal (even slightly inferior) position due to his superior understanding of the game.

      You can't directly compare skills of different generations. Of course, modern players know more. They learned from the previous masters!! However, Magnus hasn't been nearly as dominant as Kasparov in longevity nor as dominant as Fischer in skill gap between himself and #2. Fischer steamrolled everyone that was put in front of him in ways that Magnus can only dream about. So no, Magnus is not the GOAT by any meaningful standard other than he's the most recent #1.

    I don't get it. If Magnus loses the rook and Vishy loses the knight, they remain with:
    Magnus: 6 pawns, queen, knight, bishop - 21 point
    Vishy: 7 pawns, 2 rooks, bishop - 20 points
    Why resign in that position?!

    • @user-ee1lo1il3f
      @user-ee1lo1il3f 2 місяці тому

      it's not about material at that point. it's already dead lost. black has literally zero development and not even a good way to start it. some lines you'll also lose the rook on f8 e.g. after dxc exd cxd Be7. white also has all kinds of mating ideas e.g. Bf6 - obviously you can't take, and if you don't take, well queen is still coming and it's just hopeless.

    10. Rd1 Bb6 Now this is a exellent opportunity to "measure" the advances in chess over a time-span of 135 jears; 11.dxe5 Qg6 played by M.Chigorin vs W.Steiniz game 5 1889; White played this position in a straight-forward manner, winning a pawn and chasing the Queen away. Magnus C. vs V.Anand treats this position in a side-ways manner; 11.Na3!? Na5 - ignoring the position in the center, for the moment - 11. Na3 exd4!? (Rybka). 11.Bf1!? exd4 H.Nakamura vs A.Bassem ; Hikaru retreats his Bishop in a unfathomable manner.

      If I had to explain. All he had to do after the Queen Check, Anand had to trade Black Knight for Magnus White Bishop. Then Magnus would either Trade with Queen or White Knight. If Queen, Anand could have Forked Magnus Black Knight and Rook with Queen on b2. However if Magnus Traded with White Knight instead, Anand would have to move Queen to e2 while threatening the pawn. Magnus will move his Knight on d2 with the Knight and Queen protecting the pawn. Then Anand would have to force Bishop on b7 off that square because that is the strongest piece in position. Even if Magnus threats the Queen with Rook that is on d5, Anand can move his Queen to a7 and she will be safe.

    If you want to put into perspective how ridiculous Carlsen's mind is: Magnus was interviewed after the game.
    He not only remembered that he'd already seen the position, but he correctly guessed that it was a Steinitz game. He had quite literally figured out that first move years, potentially decades, before this game.

    i find this concept even better than chess 960, it could be very competitive, a random equal position picked by an ia with at least 6 pieces (not counting the king) that would be great to follow

      I think the time was too little for the best moves to be calculated. It should be 30 mins maybe. The quality of the moves may drastically improve then. Like in this game it was definitely much difficult to play as black, ( moves were difficult to find as black) time taking.

    Not only is Magnus a great player but he also has that psychological hold over his opponents, Vishy played this game much worse than he'd normally play it against any other player. Same with Magnus' record against Hikaru, they already lose the game in their head even before the start of the game.
