  • The San Juan Solstice was just my 2nd 50 mile race ever and boy did it deliver. Awesome atmosphere, beautiful course and insanely tough with over 12,500ft of climbing. BTW, for anyone curious, Hardrock has about 33,000ft of elevation gain.

Thanks for making this awesome video! I also ran Solstice this year (saw myself in one of your starting line shots!), and it was one of the most incredible mtn days I’ve ever had. So much fun (and a great deal of discomfort of course 😜). Keep up to good work 👍🏻👍🏻

Oh, man. I was in Lake City for this and was not jealous of you guys starting up in 31 degrees with seven creek crossings to do in the first bit! My buddy and I hiked up Alpine Gulch around 0830 and the creeks were flowing pretty good. I wanted to go to the finish line around cutoff to cheer folks on but we had an early rise to hike Redcloud and Sunshine the next day. Managed to go and see the first two finishers. Good work, bud! Hope to do this race one day.

Thanks for being there to cheer people on, I was too towards the end. I’m sure it meant a lot for those last finishers.

Congratulations on the finish and good luck with the RRR100. I stumbled across your videos this week as a new Colorado Resident (3 years). Happy to see you’re a relatively new Ultrarunner. I started about a decade ago at roughly the same age and hope to do it the rest of my life. Giving Leadville a shot in August and hopefully RRR100 at some point also. Just want to say I love your videos and wish you continued success with ultras and Virtual Sherpa.

There ended up being a bit more than 7 creek crossings.

Congrats...awesome accomplishment!! I spend about 5 months/year in Lake City...avid hiker/snowshoer. It's an endless outdoor playground, and the stunning beauty never gets old!! The town is amazing as well! Anyway, I follow your vids and loved seeing that you did this race...would have loved to cheer you on and meet ya! Unfortunately. I had to go back to Ohio a week before the race....sigh. But fun tidbit is that I hiked part of the course to help clear the trail of fallen trees/logs for y'all 😊 Hope to run into you on some of the trails!

THANK YOU those log clearings were a mess a month ago. Was pleasantly surprised on race day how clean the course looked in alpine.

Beautiful course! What was the average elevation on the course? I'll be running the Never Summer 100k later this month and really looking forward to it!

Something like 10-11k but really if you look at the profile there isn’t much of an average since the entire 50 is basically just climbing and descending. NS looks awesome, need to check that one out soon

Amazing! That is some impressive scenery. I'd probably be good for a 50K version of this race, but doesn't look like there is one.
