For a basketball player with no previous acting experience, Chamberlain did an EXCELLENT job of conveying mass and serious threat. It speaks well of how he was handled by the director as well. He didnt look like any newb chump handling those heavy weapons either. Sure he wasnt going to win an Oscar for the role, but he carried the role of a skilled, veteran, brooding, yet loyal and deadly violent BIG man. He and Arnold squared off so well here.
And for those asking about Bombaatas overswings, you are right. But the directors handled that by showing how physically gifted Bombaata was as well. He opened with a massive, full power lateral strike which missed and actually damaged a marble pillar. RIGHT after he misses, Conan moves in to take advantage with a counterstrike just as he should, being a thrust or cut. But Bombaata is able to react so quickly to this, that he forced Conans counterstrike to turn to a block which just about failed and almost ended up getting him killed. Bombaata was all about ferocity to the max, and yet had both the skill and speed to correct for errors and push back groups of attackers. He failed in the end, as he must of course. But how many great men have ever pushed Conan back to using a dagger for a win? I'll let you count.

I really enjoyed both Conan movies. I had been reading the books for a few years before the first one came out. I remember when it hit theatres and my buddy, who was being raised by his grandmother, invited me to go with him and his nonna Vai. I was only twelve then I think and when that sex scene with the witch came on I remember looking down towards Vai and she had her head in hands and she was shaking it. We absolutely loved the movie and about an hour after I got home Vai called my mom to apologize for taking me to a rated R movie at age twelve and how her grandson Chris told her the movie was just fantasy and blah blah blah 😂. God knows I replayed that scene in my head many times. My mother came to me and asked if I had any questions about what I saw lol 😂!! I said no just that it’s dangerous to sleep with witches lol. I enjoyed both quite a bit. Trying to add kid like humor ruined some of the second, but you also got some characters with depth, and on a few occasions, rivals that damn near bested Conan. Bombatta was interesting in that he didnt particularly hate Conan. He was a very loyal follower of his sect which truly believed it had eternal good intended for the world. Even the score gives me memberberries. I was like 7 when this came out and watched it till the VHS wore out.
Made by the late great Basil Poledouris, who never disappoints.
Super film seen so many times.
1:44 That javelin was going straight for the girl.
This seen reminds me of that friend of a friend that finally reveals themselves as your true enemy who no longer hides in the shadows.
This may be a lesson on the wonder years perhaps
So is this where Mike Tyson learned the ear biter move
Great movie.
Thought bombata would of done a full 180 and help the princess in the movie but nah he hated conan and didn't even say a word about a damn thing before trying to kill them both.
That may have been in the original script.
If i had to battle to the death or trial by combat… i would choose this song to fight to
"If the girl isn't killed at the first signs of life in our god a great catastrophe will befall us"
Arnie vs wlit Chamberlain as usual Arnie wins
Gotta wonder if Grace Jones and the blonde princess were among "Wilt the Stilt"'s 10,000 conquests!!
Doubt the blonde, she was 13 or 14, olivia da'abo believe name was, then did "The Wonder Years"
Grace probably had wilt. She likes tall dudes just ask Dolph.
Grace and Wilt couldn't stand each other, so I doubt it.
If u sleep with Grace Jones u r on her list of conquests
@Big Mike aka Heavy Mike i second that. Peace bruh
Prime Arnold, so awesome 🥰
The fucking background music😂
Arnold Best of the Best on these days you can tell the rest...
Arnold best shape ever!
And in 12 years, Tyson will remember the moment when Bombata bit off Conan's ear
Arnold forever
The bands were the shit back then
U cannot dunk on Wilt daddy
Did I just see Ursa?
this whole scene from Dagoth's revival is so epic !
we all agree first Conan was better... but this entire scene is just PERFECT !
2:07 Wilt is the OG of bitting ears before Mike Tyson.
Who else would fight bambada for a chance at the princess. I'm only 5'10 and I would
Bruce Lee defeated Kareem Abdul Jabbar in the seventies... Arnold Schwarzenegger to Will Chamberlain in the eighties
Those defeated, both were giants (not just in height) in basketball .
Lee and Arnold are already legends of cinema.
2:08
Why is there stock footage of the Tyson/Holyfield fight in the middle of this scene?
WILT!!
“Enough talk!”
