The graphics are stunning on Xbox Series X and some of the settings I’ve seen so far took me right back to hiking amid boiling mud and volcanic springs - thankfully that land was a lot less grisly during my visit! I’m taking my time to really explore each level and so appreciate the fantastic detail Ninja Theory has put into this.

I played about an hour so far because I had to go to work, but I’ll just say trailers don’t do it justice… in multiple ways. it feels like it’s brand new and yet also familiar. I fear some people will critique it for not (at this moment in my gameplay) not going far enough or expanding on the simple nature of the gameplay. But the gameplay isn’t why enjoyed the first one. However it’s vastly improved just about everywhere else, the line from cut scene to game is so terribly thin, like the narrative itself feels like a metaphor for it, what’s part of gameplay and what’s part of a cutscene is difficult to differentiate, much like determining sometimes what’s real and what’s part of Senua’s delusion. Some parts of it definitely can be pinned down as such, but other more subtle ones are more difficult and it’s horribly fantastic being confused by that.
I wish I had the time to play it in one sitting, it feels like something that I could or something I should lose myself in and become more connected to the story. It’s a lot more intense and does not hold back from the macabre, even more so than the last game, however hope there are moments of light to be found at some point, because I feel like its going to be an even harsher ride.
It was difficult to put down, I had to set my phone eyeline on the desk with the alarm rigged to trigger the camera flash when it went off, otherwise I would have stayed there on that journey. It’s already calling me back.
I must say I never heard of Hellblade games until a few months ago when the amazing band Heilung revealed that they made the soundtrack for Hellblade 2.. And today (release day), it was revealed that a few friends of mine working for "The Monster Factory" (a gathering of death metal singers doing monsters/creatures/aliens voice acting for video games and movies) did the bad guys voices in Hellblade 2. I am very curious and interested now and will go back to watch your Hellblade I playthrough before you hit the 2nd one so I understand wtf is going on storywise.. haha!

I dont wanna spoiler anything but one thing I gotta say is that the combat mechanics are a milestone in gaming. so smooth and fluid.I wish every RPG game would have that, maybe its being adapted soon enough cause that was excellent. also people complain about the development time, they probably forgot that this game was indeed finished in corona but they merged with microsoft and changed the engine to UE5 which took them a big delay.
I'm 3 chapters in, if you can call it that. The visuals and sounds are out of this world!!!! I'm enjoying it a lot!

i'm about halfway through it and i love it so far!!
I spent the day playing this game and finished it, about 9 hours of play time. I do not like to sprint everywhere and always try to find the lore entries while also taking in the atmosphere/scenery. You are in for one hell of a ride, by far has the highest graphical fidelity of any game currently available, just jaw dropping. The acting it top notch as is the audio along with a crazy story and OMG I LOVED the reworked combat. Its a much more realistic and visceral experience and I couldn't be happier with what Ninja Theory have done here.
I cannot wait to see your playthrough Kali, you are gonna love it and I will love watching you play it ❤
Small edit, not sure if you ever went back to your finale of the first game to check out the videos I replied to you with. But if you haven't that is of course okay. I will leave the one video channel title here just in case, As it is a powerful video I think you will appreciate.

Just started playing Hellblade 2. First of all it is an incredibly cinematic game and the animations are absolutely amazing both in cutscene and gameplay. Graphics are sublime.
A couple things stand out in comparison to the first game but one of the big ones is the combat. It is familiar yet different and I would say in a very good way. It is harder than the first game and more involved but not to a crazy extent. Takes some getting used to but once you do get used to it then it's actually more fun than the combat in the first game.
A few non-spoilery tips for you. Block late when fighting, perfect block has a way smaller window than the first game. Take your time looking around, there is I would say a bit more to explore than the first game. Even though I tried to not miss anything I already have.
Lastly, the game is scary. Perhaps even more so than the first game. There is an enemy type that is also in GoW and makes the ones in GoW seem like a children's book.

Speaking of music, what's the song you used in your intro and in some of your other Hellblade videos? It sounds really familiar but I can't quite put my finger on it

So far it’s just as good as far as gameplay goes, which means it is just as simplistic and I can see some not liking that they didn’t expand on that aspect, but everything else has been improved, vastly so, like 2.5x more visually and auditory impressive. Can’t quite comment on the story aspect just yet.
The upgrade is massive if I compare this one to Hellblade 1, It looks amazing and I feel hyped to see you playing it

Just got through playing the first 40 minutes, and Unreal Engine 5 has this game looking AMAZING! My PC sounds like it's about to take off pulling 70fps minimum (lol), but overall loving my experience so far, can't wait for you to experience it for yourself!
Have fun with it Kali, looks intense! Side note, if you get the opportunity to see Heliung LIVE, absolutely do it, its a culturally transcendent experience.

I loved this reaction 💙 but, you forgot to react to one of the best trailers, the 2nd one. It's okay, I loved this one still. I'm very happy you like the music. The first trailer and this one have heilung singing in it, that's what senua is singing. I can't remember if that's actually them or if it's Melina juergens singing, Either way, it's amazing!

@@kaliwali no, there's one that shows senua like crawling under a rock or something. It's the 2nd trailer, it was released last summer, for this new hellblade. I think there's 4 trailers all together now.

Friend of mine finished Hellblade 2 today. He said it was a 5 hour game!
He kinda rushed through it then, which is a shame. I also finished the game, clocking in at 9 hours and only missed 3 lore entries. Your friend probably missed almost all of them and sprinted everywhere, which is fine, you still get the story in full either way :)
Yeah, just get an Xbox or Gamepass.

I steamed through Hellblade, and really enjoyed the combat and puzzle nature of it as well as the general environment and tone.
For me, gorgeous visuals aside, Hellblade 2 is just _dull_. The combat (for me) doesn’t work, all the timing is off, the parry/riposte doesn’t work and the AI is just lumbering. However, so far (about two hours in) it’s basically a walking simulator, all the while the voices in your head are whining and berating you for what a horrible excuse for a person you are. I’m genuinely surprised it claims to have been made in close consultation with mental health specialists because it seems like it’s written on purpose to bash you and bash you relentlessly to the point that it’s simply not a pleasant game to play. Both in the combat, where nothing makes any difference, and in the walking around the blasted landscape being yelled at, it just feels like - frankly - bullying.
I agree with you wholeheartedly about the combat. It's frustrating and feels 90% scripted, which isn't for me. But I do enjoy the parts of Hellblade that go over Senua's healing and ability to be less nervous about the dark and the voices in her head. Compared to the first one, Senua has come such a long way. And while the visions, hallucinations, and voices are still there; she has navigated them much better and learned to embrace her darkness by remembering the light which is definitely how I feel with my mental health most days 💚
hellblade 1 was awesome, I dont have a X Box so I cant play second one but it looks visually unreal, kudos to Ninja theory for making a game looks this fucking good. Altho I dont think I would have spent 50 dubloons for a 6 hour game but hey happy for someone who can haha
