This song was playing one night in the berghof when he was watching the sunrise over the alps and it was at that moment he it came to him that he must take Russia. So on the eve of Barbarossa he played this to the men along with a speech he had written out. If you’ve never heard this song, I recommend you do it is absolutely brilliant… I was 27 when I first heard it and I’m never into anything like that, but it is absolutely breathtaking. I never knew instruments can tell a story. During it you feel the shift in tone from good to bad. I have the time stamp on it at 2:52

This is a good documentary but just a primer. I would encourage anyone interested in this subject to read “Rise and Fall of the Third Rich” by William Shirer.
He was a journalist working for UPI and CBS radio from 1934 to 1940. It’s an amazing piece of work that has received much acclaim though it had its detractors too.
German scholars hated it largely because they were afraid it would fan anti-German sentiment. Others didn’t think it reflected accurately deep seated German culture and therefore wasn’t “scholarly” enough.
I loved it and the avalanche of data and sub-storys keep me picking it up occasionally and reading parts of it to this day (35 years after I first read it).
