I don't think I am a Jew genetically, but I believe my soul is or wanted to be. If that makes any sense. All my life, I had been different than my family. I was born with a huge pull to learn about God. Family is Lutheran by the way. They were always telling me why I questioned so much and why I would read so much and why I wanted to know so much when it came to God. Something bothered me all my life. Like I was on a path to God but not the right one and tried to find God's truth. Drove me nuts until at age 41 I prayed. He finally answered and sent me on this path to Judaism. I had no idea that you could even step foot in a synagogue, let alone convert or I would have probably done so 20 yrs ago.
Rabbi, I just discovered your videos after someone shared a clip on covid on FB. I was enthralled! Had no idea who you were, but now I've subscribed and working through your collection. Here's to the new year!
I AM A JEW. I WAS NEVER TOLD WE WERE JEWISH UNTIL I WAS 49 YEARS OLD I SPOKE HEBREW WORDS AS A YOUNG CHILD NOT KNOWING I WAS A JEW. I WENT TO A SYNAGOGUE AFTER I WAS TOLD WE WERE JEWISH AT 49 YEARS OF AGE AND RECOGNIZED A FEW WORDS AT SHUIR... RABBI SAID BECAUSE I HAD NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE I HAD TO GO THRU CONVERSION. I DID! I HAVE VISITED ISRAEL 3 TIMES. I WANT TO COME HOME! I WANT TO DO ALIYAH. I WANT TO VISIT TSFAT. SHALOM
Redemption is like education to understand deeply concerning right and wrong. It's like removing the fog that everyone can now walk and make better decisions and stay away from Sin and gain mastery of it.
Rabbi, I really wish that you'd take control of the women who constantly interrupt with comments and thoughts during your Torah shiur. It's not even questions... it's just chatter. It makes your shiurim very difficult to listen to. Please tell them to keep questions for the end and please not shout out any thoughts that come into their heads.
Maybe these women interrruptors verbalize their comments because they're passionate about the subject matter; or, they're like me. If I don't interrupt or comment right this second, I might forget what I felt I needed to say/ask about the subject at hand and then, it's gone. Forever. Then I cry out of pure frustration. 😢
Hello Rabbi, the beautiful story you told about the Arab whose mother was Jewish is actually a lot more dramatic than you related. Without going into details he had to come to Toronto and he lived in my building. I got to know him well in the short time he was here. I'm curious how you heard his story. But if you would like to hear my understanding of what happened you would be amazed. I want you to know that he was a very special Jew. I wish we could have a conversation because you're very inspiring. You would certainly want to know the deeper story about this tzadik.
I am in my 70s.....my maternal grandmother never went to church..did not have a Bible, she had a menorah and the book used for Sedar dinner .and through ancestry search that side of the family came from the most populated Jewish part of Germany...... I've always wondered. I never thought about it growing up because it was just Grandma's home...I still wonder.... I would be very proud of she was..
You are the first Rabbi i hear speaking about 'non jews' instead of 'goim'. Do you imply that it is not accurate or not sensible to use the word 'goim'? Or maybe do you imply that we don't know among jewish people who is a descendent of ancient Hebrew people and who is a descendent from guerrim? While in main stream judaism we admit that people who commit to the Torah AND converted are jewish, indepedant of ethnic lineage, and even give it the priority over ethnic lineage (in the case of apicorias or father line Israel) We can not go back to the situation prior to this, so the difficult question nobody wants to answer is: what is the promised land and to whom was it promised? To the ethnic descendants of Isaac ('your only son'} or to the new spiritual Israel (=jewish people)? The ethnic/spiritual process is: Hebrews -> Israel -> Jewish Could there be a physical promised land belonging to a spiritual people even if it is partially ethnically justified by "motherline certainty' ? Doesn't 'gathering the people' necessarily mean the ethnic descendants only? What is going on here? I can tell you that as long as we can not come up with some strong argument, Ishmael will not leave us in peace.
I'm not Jewish but this I do know about. 1. Only if the Mother is Jewish, then the child is Jewish. If you're father is a prominent Jewish Rabbi AND a Cohen yet your mother isn't Jewish, you are 100% not Jewish. No exceptions. None.
12:05 STUDY TORAH, FORGIVE YOURSELF AS YOU DO OTHERS FOR YOUR AND THIER SHORTCOMINGS...IT HAPPENS. OBSERVE THE WAY AND THE LAW, AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHETHER YOU'RE JEWISH. THAT IS WHO A JEW IS...IN MY EYES.
11:05 RABBI, MY SPEECH MEANDERS AND I DON'T WANT TO REGRET WHAT I LEAVE HERE. I JUST WANT TO SAY, I/WE LOOK FORWARD TO THAT PROPHECY BY ZECHARIAH...THE SUCCOTH, WITH EVERYONE FROM EVERY TRIBE... WITH OUR OWN EYES...THIS LIFE...AND MY TOUNGUE!!! SHALOM, I LIKE HIM.
There isn't enough proof. To Jewish tradition, to be a Jew, you must find and prove it through your mother's side and know they are and can prove it too. So, if it isn't close enough, it doesn't count. If you want to be a Jew, you should convert.
Isn't it written in the holy scriptures that YHVH told Abraham that He would make his seed/children as numbering like the sand of the sea, of every nation and language. Why are people so surprised to know that there are Jews hidden in every nation on the Earth?
So Rabbi my father was polish mother is Australian I had my DNA done I'm 17% Ashkenazi Jew.So here is my question what % would need to be to be classified Jewish?

So did you convert?

We are well aware of this problem and it is not easy to control the crowed. Rabbi Anava is too nice... (Yehuda, Admin)
I don't mind it. Makes me feel I am actually a part of the class.

I love you, Rabbi.
Thank you for you for being You.
I hope i can convert one day!

Us and them is a very delicate topic

Rabbi Anava does not come to youtube, so he does not read here messages and comments.

The Torah states we are known by the tribe of our fathers. No traditions can trump the written Law.
@@jvs6564Very sensible response!
The same way we know Moshiach is to come from the seed of David...

You need to contact Rabbi Anava's staff through his website www.Atzmut.com
Rabbi Alon Anava
i will like to ask you do you think the gypsy are jews ?
Shalom, Rabbi Anava does not check messages and comments here
Baruch Hashem
What about DNA testing?
Many people have found out they have Jewish roots through these tests.
There isn't enough proof. To Jewish tradition, to be a Jew, you must find and prove it through your mother's side and know they are and can prove it too. So, if it isn't close enough, it doesn't count. If you want to be a Jew, you should convert.
@mr.b2960 like another commenter stated, tradition does not take precedence over torah law. Tribal descent is through the Father.
I'm Jew end I'm so HAPPY
U got me waking up in Columbus,Ohio
Isn't it written in the holy scriptures that YHVH told Abraham that He would make his seed/children as numbering like the sand of the sea, of every nation and language. Why are people so surprised to know that there are Jews hidden in every nation on the Earth?
Thank you Rabbi🇰🇪🇮🇱
First cousin twice removed
What about South American people, we are Jews to
Wow
So Rabbi my father was polish mother is Australian I had my DNA done I'm 17% Ashkenazi Jew.So here is my question what % would need to be to be classified Jewish?
Rabbi Anava doesn't check comments here. You need to check your lineage and your mother has to be Jewish and then her mother etc.
maronites?
Sorry to say that two-third ofJews in Israel will be destroyed .only one -third shall be saved by The Mashiach (Zechariah 13:8-9,14:1-3)
THAT’S IT I CANNOT LISTEN TO HIM WITH THAT ANNOYING WOMAN INTERRUPTING !!!
