Passing Drivers on the Commute by Bike

- The timing of my commute lately has put me in heavier traffic hours, so we're passing drivers more often. First we're on 70th heading toward the 8, and then we're on the Farimount Expressway heading up to Meade.

These videos can be scary, but please know that my goal isn't to deter people from riding bikes in San Diego, but to show the real-world conditions. Sometimes it's pleasant, sometimes it's just fine, and other times there's tension and conflict.
The roads in San Diego should be safe and accessible to everyone without the use of a car. My hope is that these videos help those in power make better decisions for all our safety. I also believe that the more people who decide to ride, the safer the roads will become.

I think you're right that it's safer when there is congestion. That's what makes the overbuilt streets in San Diego so dangerous. Most of the time there is no traffic and the streets are wrongly built like highways because they expected more traffic, and that's when it's really dangerous.

Couldn't help it. They're the silliest cars I've ever seen, and I can't help but feel bad for every sucker driving one.
I love passing traffic while on my bike. It's even better when I'm out running and moving much faster than cars. That stupid car is an understatement for the CT.
When I was a bike commuter, I loved passing motor vehicles. I am retired and don't need to commute anymore. I still prefer biking to driving.

I've tried that before, but it takes a long time, and really cuts a lot around the edges. Also, iMovie has had a rough time lately exporting video when I do certain things, so I'm trying to keep it cautiously simple. But if it's too bumpy...maybe the city can smooth out the road :)
