Be carefull its not the same. Only way I found it works as a "real clean" install on apple silicon is DFU mode which requires 2 apple devices. Since I have only one I used a mac os vm in windows with usb c passtrough. Very troublesome stuff. If someone tells you u can do only with an usb stick you may end up on unbootable state like me. And have to use dfu mode obliged.
Hello ... while creating "bootable USB", this message "/Applications/Install macOS Sonoma.app does not appear to be a valid OS installer application." was received and couldn't create bootable USB... plz HELP :/
Thank you. The reason I asked is when I tried to do a clean install on Monterey to next version everything, I did like you did here, but I couldn't connect to my wifi and couldn't make the connection. Frustrated, I went to an Apple store where they couldn't connect. They came back and told me that I had to leave my mini with them for an hour, so they had to reset or repopulate something; I don't recall then I could put the new OS on the computer. I came back, and then I installed the new OS without issue. Have you heard of having to go this route? They told me the best way to go around this is to install the new one over the old OS. Thanks @@MacintoshWeekly
A good outline video but for me it skipped over critical hurdles - like getting the right dropdown list from disk utility to expose the correct USB Format (!). I eventually got there..... It would have been helpful to provide text to enable a subscriber to copy and paste the terminal command to avoid manual copying errors. I have a Mac M1 Studio and note from one viewer comments there could be issues....... As always the devil is in the detail.
I found out the hard way, that this only works if you have adjusted your mac's security settings to allow it to boot from a USB Drive / External Source.
On one hand I understand the security measures but on the other hand, reinstalling MacOS has become cumbersome, certainly if you do it from the internal SSD drive. It's bloody slow. And with all the restrictions in Macs, I don't dare stopping the install process to try this method…
Do I need Apple ID or something else to activating the Sonoma os ? or it'll be update automatically ?

Great instructions for MacBook Air 15 inch M2. Keep USB connected at install and verify WiFi is connected prior to install menu.
A question: is there any difference from a clean install on a mac Intel to a mac M3 or the process is the same?

I’ve done the steps but when it says “Copying the MacOS RecoveryOS . . .” nothing happens anymore. It’s like nothing happens. Know what this can be?
Great tutorial! Thank you🙏🏻🎉
Glad you liked it!
Will this setup work on M1 Macs?
Yes, of course, In fact the video was made on a M1 Mac mini.

⛔️Carefull guys Incomplete guide for Apple Silicon M1 M2 M3.⛔️ You may end up on unbootable state with only DFU mode to repair.
