    Or you can just learn about intervals and learn the major scale, later you Will realise how to find and understand 98% of the scales and what they are on the fly. If you really want, you can get this in one month, Just dont expect to have a 10 years proficiency in 1 month

    • @jippie11261
      @jippie11261 6 років тому +5

      If what you're saying was true, music schools and universities would suggest your method as an optional way of learning scales. But, they don't because your method is wrong. Scales need to be developed on their own, scale by scale. I've had many great teachers and spent time in college, and no one has ever suggested your ideas. Sure, players could use intervals as an after-thought for mapping chords, but NOT as a way to learn the scales on guitar. They each absolutely have to be memorized individually.

    • @Mathcartney
      @Mathcartney 6 років тому +8

      jippie11261 my most sincere i dont care. If one wants to get serious about theory, they Wont click in a clickbait video and mostly wont only use scales and learn that... as a studied being this method was more true to me than any other, my teacher also seems that way so thats it pal, move on

    • @AdamCHowell
      @AdamCHowell 6 років тому +2

      I don't know about his one month claim, but the idea of taking the major scale and adjusting the intervals to get other scales really isn't a new one and it's the only way I can remember many of the scales that I can play. The alternative of results in relearning and forgetting countless scales over and over for decades. To be honest I use both approaches. I'd imagine they reinforce each other. There will be factors like muscle memory, and other aspects of your memory being refreshed, that kicks in once you're playing a familiar scale even if you came to visualize the scale by taking the major scale or another familiar scale and modifying it.
      These days I spend barely any time practising scales. My scale knowledge isn't perfect but it's at the level now that it suits most of my needs.

    • @phatman811
      @phatman811 6 років тому +11

      @Mathcartney you're speaking the truth brother. You learn the intervals of the Major scale, you'll learn its modes then you'll know every "shape" of every scale because it's all the same notes but in different areas of the guitar neck. You literally don't need to learn and individually study every scale "shape" because you learn to figure it out on your own with knowledge of intervals. These fools fucking reply but they obviously don't even know shit.
      PS There's quotation marks on the word shapes because they're in music theory there isn't any shapes, thats pretty much just in guitar.

  • @st8kout961
    @st8kout961 6 років тому

    Well, first and foremost if you play because you enjoy it, instead of trying to impress other people on youtube, you'll progress much faster because you'll spend more time practicing.
    As for scales, I was in the school band (clarinet) before learning to play guitar and while we learned music theory and scale structures, it didn't help me play any better at all. That's for people who want to major in music in college. I eventually dropped out of the school band in the 10th grade and scraped up enough money to buy a guitar. Nothing I learned in band helped me play guitar any better, as I certainly wasn't reading sheet music anymore. Picked up a chord book from the library and started picking out my favorite songs, which in the 60s was almost a new song everyday; Beatles, CCR, Stones, Zepplin, the whole British Invasion thing. First thing I did everyday after school was grab my guitar and not stop until I knew every chord of the newest song that came out.

      Martin Kuliza , living in a remote area (in India)...working 6days...10+hrs a day....started learning guitar at the age of 23..when I listen my first english song by Guns n Roses...now I'm 24...almost 10yrs late as compared to all of my guitar heroes. ..I ruined my first year of practice due to bad learning habbits...got even ganglion cyst on back of my wrist...now I decided to move slow n in structured way...so I'm super beginner...with 1-2hrs practice time per day...I know I can't even touch the shadow of my idols in this life time..so whatever I see something which improve my techniques and approach....I appreciate. ..I know I'm late but my job sucking my blood and happiness...I wanna switch my career to music...or music teaching in next 3-5yrs...I can die happily if I make that true...so I'm not kidding...I'm just far far behind in beautiful musical world.

    • @AdityaSharma-fs2dv
      @AdityaSharma-fs2dv 6 років тому

      Martin Kuliza ....wow...Thanks for taking initiative to make me understand. And I'm not complaining...I'm sticking to my dream...till death...I feel music n writing in me...writing poems...rhymes...stories...back of my subject notebooks from 3rd grade. Hearing unheard melodies inside my head all the time but don't know how to execute it on guitar. I'm thinking about doing musical grades in guitar for foundation. But for this I need to move in big city. I think here in village there's no environment for art n music. When I bought my acoustic guitar for first time...everyone is staring like I'm with AK-47. And ya you are right about DO IT thing. I LL DO IT NOW. its a big risk to switch career when you are in huge debt and responsibilities to feed parents (Indian thing)...but my rebellious spirit says go for it. ..so I ll...thanks for your guidance.

    I don't think your method at 4:40 of spending time on a bunch of different scales and modes per day/week is a good approach. You can't retain information that way, it's too scattershot. Focusing on one single mode for a whole week makes more sense to me - learning patterns, intervals, licks and supplementing that with some real song examples using the mode for example. Learning 50 patterns in a week is like learning nothing at all - people can't memorize that much info.

    • @catthegearguy2048
      @catthegearguy2048 6 років тому

      rene leblanc ..true... learning that many scales in one week is not realistic, but I don't think that the intent of the regimentation. His method is amazing at getting a bunch of scales into rotation and then building quick phrases out of each scale. I think when you have that kinda rotation, it's kinda like how you can binge watch a bunch of Seinfeld episodes and, somehow, you'll have mysteriously memorized the most important parts. If you were to watch the same rotation of 50 Seinfeld episodes each week for 4 weeks, I bet you'd have at least half of the episodes memorized almost word for word. It's a heck of a lot more challenging to blaze a load of scales actively, than to just passively watch a crap load of Seinfeld, but I think you'll be surprised how much retention occurs when you make that kind of effort over time. The human brain is incredible.

      Learning the major scale is super important for learning how to improvise, learning things by ear, and writing original music. Scales can take your playing to places you can't even imagine without them

    • @NorbertNagyNorc

      dick labobo
      Because without the pragmatic approach and muscle memory that scales provide/promote you may get stuck on a level, which I did despite my formal music training.
      A scale-based approach helps you avoid "wrong" notes in a chord progression, and gives you a confident foothold to kick-start your creativity from.

      Thierry INONGI He built his channel and subscribership on the premise that learning the guitar should be treated as an opportunity to become a well-rounded musician, which implies being open to learn basic music theory and concepts like keys, scales, modes, arpeggios, harmonization, modulation, melody, harmony, rhythm, meter, time signatures...None of this basic shit is even remotely complicated or time consuming as far as developing the vocabulary (execution is a different matter) to understand what he is saying. So, if you dig what he has to offer, why not use his website to learn the language or purchase something like Wyatt and Shroeder's "Harmony and Theory", By Musicians Institute Press, and start your journey towards true musicianship?

      Martin Kuliza, Your reply sounds rude. I don't think that when the lesson is posted, the owner determines:
      1. the category of followers/students. And not all guitarists are at the same level.
      2. When not all guitarists who access UA-cam know English. Theory is very good I agree, but the teaching method should also consider learners who can only understand practically. That's what I meant. I wonder why you sound rude. In Portugal, Spain, Germany and other countries, people like lessons from creativeguitarstudio, and I believe some people are able to learn through playing than theory
