Learning about scales and how to apply them on guitar can be rather overwhelming. However, things become a whole lot easier if our scale is simplified into one playing position.
This way the scale becomes more manageable to use, a lot easier to remember. When simplified versions of a scale are applied around chords from the key, the scale’s sound is quickly memorized - which helps tremendously when composing melodic lines & solos.
This lesson is all about a playing approach that begins with chords from a Minor key’s “i-iv-v.” The chords establish a harmony that can be used for a foundation that introduces scale structure. For the scale, we’re keeping it simple with notes from “B” Minor Pentatonic played across the upper strings in fifth position.
This combination of notes along with the chords will work great. It will also be helpful in getting you to become better at playing scales, chords and soloing.
The way we are going to work with this scale will be based around using a simple, “i-iv-v” harmony in, “B” Minor that will perfectly highlight our sound.
This will make it easier to begin playing licks & lines from off of the “B” Minor scale tones. The lesson will get started by learning about the chord patterns we will apply from this lesson download of the “B” Minor MP3 backing loop-track.
