Have you ever had someone come around where you live, (your home or your apartment), and as soon as they spotted your guitar - they said to you, “Hey, you play guitar... Play me something!
Well, in situations like that a guitarist who is at the Beginner or Intermediate level will often feel like they are being put on the spot. So, how can this be dealt with prep in advance to ensure that you’re comfortable and you do not chicken out?
In order to better navigate these types of awkward situations I’ve got a great way for any level guitar player to not only be able to quickly & easily play something, but to be able to play some nice music that sounds great.
The idea I’m going to show you in this lesson is based upon the drone concept and it uses the “I-IV-V” chords from “D” Major.
We’re going to keep the open 4th-string “D” as a drone in the bass and generate a concept called modal harmony using intervals on the 3rd and 2nd strings.
First thing to do is to become familiar with each of the 2-note chord shapes along strings 3 and 2. Then, you need to understand how to get this collection of scale tones working together along the neck.
Additionally, you can also add in some melody lines using small scale segments. These scale parts work great when it comes to mixing melody lines along with the drone chord harmony parts.

I used this idea and in about 5 min. I wrote a lovely little riff. So simple, but it totally hits exactly what you need to make a musical connection.

Very simple. It didn't sound quite as good on my strat as on the classical. You have exalent tone, which I find hard to achieve on UA-cam.

Am I the only guy on the planet that switched the first and second finger on a D chord? I can’t even do the way it’s shown on the thumbnail. It doesn’t make sense and doesn’t lend itself to move to other chords. Oh well, 59 years probably won’t be changing anytime soon.

It is a small manufacturer from Spain called; "Alhambra Guitars." This model is their Z-Nature CW EZ Electro-Classical. Amazing guitar for the money. Outside of the Canadian Company, "Long & McQuade" I'm not sure who really carries them in North America /USA. They seem to be more popular in Europe.
