As a large and active breed, German Shepherds are susceptible to certain joint problems like hip dysplasia.
One way to help your German Shepherd stay healthy and happy is to give them the best supplements and vitamins possible, which can help your dog stay strong and active, well into their senior years.
There are a few specific vitamins that are particularly important for German Shepherds:
Vitamin A improves your dog’s vision, immune system, and reproduction. It can be found in meat, dairy products, and green leafy vegetables, and is essential for a healthy skin and coat.
Vitamin B helps your dog’s metabolism and nervous system, and can be found in meat, fish, eggs, and milk.
Vitamin C greatly boosts your dog’s immune system, and can be found in citrus fruits, tomatoes, potatoes, and green peppers.
Vitamin D plays a vital role in strengthening your dog’s bones and teeth, and can be found in fatty fish, such as salmon, fortified milk and cereal.
Vitamin E is important for a dog's immune system and skin health, and also helps to protect cells from damage. It can be found in vegetable oils, nuts, and green leafy vegetables.
And Vitamin K helps your dog avoid blood clotting, and can be found in dark leafy green vegetables, such as kale and spinach.
Let’s now go over other supplements that German Shepherds Need.
Colostrum is a type of milk produced by mammals shortly after giving birth. It’s high in antibodies and other nutrients that support the immune system, and will help protect your German Shepherd from disease.
Probiotics are live bacteria that help keep the gut healthy, and are great for dogs because they help keep the digestive system functioning properly.
Digestive enzymes help the body to break down food and absorb nutrients, and are particularly important for dogs with allergies or other digestive problems.
Fish oil is a source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for joint health, brain function, and the immune system.
Coconut oil is a source of healthy fats that can help improve the coat and skin health of German Shepherds.
Glucosamine & chondroitin are supplements that support joint health, and are particularly important for German Shepherds, as they’re prone to joint problems.
Green-lipped mussel is a type of shellfish that is a source of omega-3 fatty acids, and can help with joint pain and inflammation.
Antioxidants help to protect cells from damage, and are important for the immune system and overall health.
And CBD is a compound found in cannabis that has some potential health benefits, and is being studied for its ability to relieve pain, anxiety, and inflammation in dogs.
5 Things to Avoid When Giving Your German Shepherd Supplements include:
    1. Giving them too much of a single supplement
    2. Not doing your research
    3. Giving them supplements they don’t need
    4. Giving them expired supplements
    5. Not monitoring their diet
When Choosing the Best Supplements for your German Shepherd:
Make sure you consult your vet
    Read labels carefully
    Do your research
    Consider their diet
If your German Shepherd is on a specific diet, be sure to select a supplement that is compatible with their food.

I’m super confused about what to feed my 12 week old puppy LH GSD. I made her home made food that I cooked. Very small amount of beef liver, ground beef, chicken hearts, and chicken gizzards. All cooked. Cooked rice, cooked eggs, spinach, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. All cooked and mixed together. I added no supplements yet, because I am mixing it with dry food Diamond Naturals puppy formula for large breeds. I’ve only had her for a week. Please help, I only want what is best for her. I’ve heard that too much calcium is bad, and not enough is also problematic. What supplements should I use? Which route should I go?
