If it comes apart that easy, that's awesome. In Michigan, we salt the roads in the winter so that ain't happenin'. Just replaced one of the rears on my daughter's 2004 Matrix yesterday and it took about an hour. 30 minutes of various things to get the hub out of the socket, then to get the backing plate to dislodge from it. It was all rust bonded together. With the ones that have the ABS wheel speed sensor, you can't just take a hammer to the back to whack it out so it becomes a bit more time consuming.
Rofl... Love how you just pulled it by hand .. yeah just finished this same job, needed a torch and some small sledgehammers to get mine to come loose. So, word of warning yeah have a torch, Sledges, and a puller handy don't expect it to just come right out.
My girlfriend had her brakes done 3 months ago. The back wheel seems to grind as you accelerate and stops if you tap on the brake pedal. Then the grind starts again. 05 corrolla, She put new brakes, rotors and drums. I was thinking bearings...What do you think? Thanks:)
See if the tire wiggles, it should be solid, if the tire wiggles when you push and pull it, its the bearing. Just jack it up a lil bit and see if the tire wiggles.
@@lifepath6187 I just had one go bad on my 2007 Vibe - the first symptom I had was an occasional "grinding/dragging" sound when the car was moving (no noise when parked) - sounded like a brake pad dragging on a warped brake rotor. The noise was just loud enough to isolate it to the rear, right side with my old ears. Next, used a jack & stand to elevate the suspect wheel - I didn't get the noise when rolling the tire, but could tell there was excessive play by grabbing the tire with both hands and rocking it in and out (sorry, this is hard to describe - a picture would be worth a million words...) Once I got the tire off the hub, the excessive free play and rough bearing was pretty obvious.
Hi Eduardo, You will probably need to use a press to separate the bearing from the hub, and to reinstall the new bearing. You can take it to a local machine shop, or you might be able to find a youtube video that shows how to do it without a press. I have seen people try to separate the hub and bearing with a slide hammer, but it's not easy. Good luck to you! -Dan the Fix it Man
do you happen to know if this was on an AWD version of the Matrix? I'm told that the entire rear axle has to be removed on my 2003 AWD to get this done.
Rear hub assembly on a front wheel dr car. One of the simplest jobs you could ever hope for on a vehicle. If only the front was hub assembly style too. Not a fan of the bearing pressed into the steering knuckle.
Thanks for none of the long bs intro guides and this and that. Quick simple right to the point.👍
Thanks again Dan! your video made me even more confident in doing this myself. The stealership wanted $400 for the hub, and $400 for labor.
That's awesome! So glad my video helped you save some money!
Take care,

Thanks for your response.
awesome that seems fairly easy, are the front ones this easy???
Sadly no
Does the ABS have these models?
Hi Lasha,
This would be a similar process to a vehicle with abs.
do you happen to know if this was on an AWD version of the Matrix? I'm told that the entire rear axle has to be removed on my 2003 AWD to get this done.
Hi Dan,
No, this was not an AWD.
Best of luck to you!

Must live in Florida
2:10 I have no sympathy for anyone who's bearing came off that easily.
4wd will not go to this part. I have 4x4 disabled
I Love the music sounds like retro porn movies
