- This video shows how to set up DTS Headphone X using the Sound Unbound App on the Xbox. It's pretty straightforward and is worth trying as an alternative to Dolby Atmos for Headphones and Windows Sonic.

My Xbox won’t recognise the usb , DTS app won’t let me do the trial etc and has error “ please plug in compatibility headphones”
I didn't have a 4K bluray player and had to get one of the new gen consoles so I went with this one for some of the backwards compatibility features and exclusives. However, getting into this has completely given a new life to my 2.1 sound system and headphones. What I love about DTS is you know when they're working cause you can feel the sound in your chest, I own both the atmos app and the dts app just for the comparison. So far I cant really get atmos to give my logitech z232s that kick in the ass they immediately get when you hear that codec switch on and it's on "Spacious" mode. Since I can finally also play CDs again on a gaming console with series x, they sound just as amazing regardless if it's through your head phones or speaker channel set up.
Great video. I am watching the video on my Xbox and when your home screen popped up at the beginning it threw my brain and I thought UA-cam had crashed on my Xbox. Again great vid
I have bought the jbl quantum 400 headset which has DTS for headphones X but isn't listed on the headphones list in the DTS Unbound app.
At 5:07 cant find my headset. I got a Astro A20
Please compare Dolby and DTS. IDK which option is better.
I’m not sure either. I think it will come down to personal preference most of the time.

I bought the dts license and can't enable it. When going into settings to change it, it says I need a license, but I just bought it. It doesn't let me enable dts headphone x in the sound app either. What am I doing wrong!?

I fixed it! If you still are stuck, try restarting your console. Once on again, reopen DTS app, then go back to Xbox settings and try selecting DTS from the list.

Im so confused. I have the headphones but your telling me I have to PAY FOR A SUBSCRIPTION to hear my game audio thru headphones I spent over a hundred dollars on? Someone explain this
You don't have to pay anything. DTS headphone X, like Dolby Atmos for headphones, is optional. You can use Stereo or even Microsoft's own Windows Sonic for Headphones, which is free.

Great video! I use DTS Headphones on my Xbox and not only does it sound great, but it allows me to be better at games like Gears 5. If possible, could you please do a video on if there's any improvements on the Xbox Series X due to its dedicated audio hardware and also a direct comparison to PS5's 3D. I've heard it's not that good on PS5, which is what I always predicted
Do you use DAC amp or headphones ? I mean optical way ?
My best friend is a huge Sony fanboy and even he who praises everything they do say it’s garbage and he hates me for buying a cheap series s with gamepass and having dts for half he paid for his ps5 with ps plus for a year which only brought old games he already owns

Me too. The moment i used it i noticed it made my tb stealth 600 sound better in the bass department and more spacious compared to when i use Dolby atmos headphone.
At 1st voices in movies and games sounded off but I've gotten used to it.
The only problem I habe with this, is not knowing what games are supported. Must be more than the few on their side. Because it feels like it also support surround sound with Cyberpunk an my series s. What does it do with not officially supported games? Just stereo or is that enhanced too?
problem is that even if you have a pair of phones dts x compatible , the games list that supports dts headphone x is dramatically limited. For xbox series s/x at least.
Will they work with Pc/Ps4 HyperX headphones? Because I followed step by step and it says it worked but it’s not actually working I can’t hear anything

I'm using arctis 7x, connected wirelessly with the USB dongle. Like other people, I follow all steps but when I go back to Xbox settings and select DTS, it just tells me to download the app (already did of course). Ideas?
Edit: fixed!! Just had to restart the console. Why didn't I think of that...

Do you know if you have to open the app every day to make it work? I swear sometimes my headset isn’t putting dts audio out. Even though the Xbox still shows it set to dts in the settings.
No, you shouldn't need to open the app every time.
Have you tried resetting your xbox? That tends to solve a lot of these issues.
@@JoeChip yeah it just sucks having to do it all the time. It’s weird. Plus webcams don’t work with the series x.
Hi Joe, I am interested in all 3 possibilities, but only in investing in one of them. Not sure if Dolby does a free trial I will need to check.
I would appreciate it if, in due course, you could do a follow-up with your own thoughts and experiences (esp. Atmos v DTS). Appreciate your work as ever. Cheers.
That's actually a good idea. I'd like to spend some time and find out which of the three options are actually best for me, so I could turn it into a video. Could take a while to work out how to set it all up and present it, though. Plus, there are so many variables (different headphones, different sound preferences, different ears), so any conclusions I draw will, necessarily, have to be taken with a pinch of salt.
It'd still be worth doing, though (mind you, I threatened to make a video about the streaming services a couple of months back and I'm still putting that together)

Joe, does the app need to stay open while playing games in order for it to remain working or can I close it and it remain DTS X in my canz?
You can close it.
Dolby doesn't support most games, should I even be using it? I have Astero A50s so am I missing out shutting of there features for Dolby?
That's not entirely true. The games that get the best from Dolby Atmos are those that are designed to use it. For other games Atmos does work but not as well.
As for whether you should use it or not, you'll need to test it to see what you prefer. Sound can be very subjective.

...so have you noticed a difference between using DTS vs Dolby Atmos? I’ve now paid for Dolby Atmos and decided to stick with this as the settings have 3 Custom graphic equaliser settings that you can adjust which give far more variations that the Windows Sonic for Headphones and DTS apps.
I've not really had a chance to spend enough time going backwards and forwards between the aps yet. I do like Atmos on the whole but the tailored settings to specific headphones on the DTS app is an attractive proposition. It means you don't get to mess with the settings like you do with Atmos but that shouldn't be necessary as long as DTS have done a decent job tuning the settings.
Of course, that doesn't take into account that different people hear things differently, so a manual adjustment is useful there. I used to be a bit of an audiophile, though, and the idea of a tone control on an amp was always something audiophiles were suspicious of, never mind the graphic equalizers some systems used to have. It's a lot more sophisticated now with DSP but old habits die hard.

I'm not sure about wireless speakers as I've not had a chance to look into that side of things but it should work with wireless headphones (as long as they work with the Xbox of course)

I bought the license yesterday, but I have to activate it from the application every time I turn on the xbox, this does not happen with dolby, totally disappointed

Guys, in XSX whit Astro A50, DTS X crushes Dolby Atmos.

Probably not. You could try out the demo, though, to see if you prefer it to the astro's own dsp. Remember to turn off the astro's dsp, though.
Is this working on every headset?
It should work with any Xbox compatible headset.
I have the Arctis 5 and it won't let me set it to DTS in settings.
How do you have it connected?
I found the solution. Just restart your console, then reopen DTS app, then to back to the Xbox settings and try selecting it again.

Dont buy this shit, more often than not you will see "Not licensed" at the bottom right after purchasing.
Try rebooting your Xbox. That usually solves the problem.

Can someone help? I set up the headphones and did everything in the tutorial but the sounds still come out of the Xbox and not the headset. Is there anything I can do to fix this???

@@JoeChip hey i actually fixed my problem by just going into settings, accessibility, the controler thing, and it got me to another app where i clicked the 3 dots and it said i could update my controller. i plugged in my headset, updated the controller and it worked
