3DR Solo Drone Max Altitude Test Flight No Limit Altitude Setting

  • Finally, figured out the app and was able to change the max altitude setting to "no limit". The 3DR solo drone was able to achieve a max altitude of 860 feet a big improvement from my previous video. The 3DR Solo drone seems to lose connection at about 600-860 feet. After losing connection the solo drone automatically starts to descend until a connection is reestablished and you can assume control of the drone.

    Someone like you is going to be the reason for major restrictions. So, thanks for that.

    You broke the FAA regulation of 400 ft

    • @kdanagger6894
      @kdanagger6894 7 років тому +1

      It is possible to fly above 400ft AGL legally. You simply have to fly near a tall structure. I have legally flown my Solo to 1400 ft AGL by flying within 400 ft of a 1000 ft transmission tower.

    How do I take the ceiling limit off the solo

  • @neosquirrel

    My question is: WHY do you need to fly this high? You know you already broke the FAA altitude limit twice over doing this. A shot this high over residential areas doesn't come off any more impressive than 400 feet. It just makes a mess of things to look at.
    If we want the FAA (and the public at large) to accept these UAS's as a safe, everyday thing, one cannot afford to be this reckless. Just because you can go this high doesn't mean you SHOULD. Cities every day are putting more and more bans on drone flying daily--over landmarks, over parks, over events, even entire towns. At 800 feet, a plane nearby could easily spot this, report it, and cause investigations, hearings, and again, more bans that this hobby doesn't need.
    Fly responsibly, not recklessly. The rest of us would like to do this with as few restrictions as possible. Incidents like these can be used as examples on why UAS's should be prohibited--and worst of all, you put it on the internet that some trigger-happy council member or congressman can use as Exhibit A, regardless of where it was shot.

    860 is decent for stock 3DR Solo, I've upgraded the wi-fi cards and antennas and have gotten mine up to the 1200s in very urban area with lots of signal interference (no signal loss) but I would agree with others once you're above 400ft it looks the same as 1200ft

    • @jacksilver6613
      @jacksilver6613 7 років тому

      John Dyer A stock 3DR can go further with a channel mod. Surely boosting wifi by a lot. Then is high power multidirectional, long distance, antenna mod.

    • @jacksilver6613
      @jacksilver6613 7 років тому

      John Dyer You already mentioned upgraded wifi card. There's also an upgraded gps mod. Leg antennas are upgradeable too. Software can be optimized for different performance purposes.

    • @jacksilver6613
      @jacksilver6613 7 років тому

      John Dyer In theory, a modded 3DR should be capable of same height/distance as P3.

    Why is the range so short compared to Phantom 3?

    • @LordDrone
      @LordDrone  9 років тому

      Kris de Jesus No clue why I'm sure with mods they will figure this out since the solo has an expansion bay

    • @jacksilver6613
      @jacksilver6613 7 років тому

      Kris de Jesus Software has to be modded for channels. Antenna on controller needs to be fpvlr. Wifi card inside drone has to be upgraded. Fixed camera is less weight/energy than multi axis gimbal. Software optimization for connection power draw and motor power rotations.
      All fairness, P3 has a speed/weight difference. P3 is lighter in weight. P3 has power efficiency at lower speeds. That is key for some vertical flight activity. Air/wind can be a helpful when flying high. Solo doesn't use that advantage very good. Solo would have to be in higher, vertical attenuation, wind conditions.
      A heavily modded Solo could go very long horizontal distances. You can adapt just about anything. You can even use a juiced up version of antenna/gps system from P4 or P3. Solo's gps can actually be modded\upgraded.
      Solo drone amped up for speed, modded, could push 63-69mph. Maybe 75-80 in ideal conditions. Key word modded In fact, Solo was designed to be modded.

      3DR uses conventional WiFi and TCP-IP.
      DJI uses a non-standard digital data transmission that is designed to tolerate weak/marginal signals. DJI actually doesn't have more signal power, they just use what they have in a way that adapts better to a weak link.

    I have a Solo and I have no need to fly above 300 feet! We all know you can change the setting showing videos that break the rules yotube should pull these videos down as a way to police the hobby!

      +Tallguysd So u love having a car that cant exceed more than 50mph. Im sorry, i will never buy that car, i prefer a car which can speeding until 120mph or more.
      U better sell ur 3DR Solo and get a phantom 3 Standart (cheap just $499). U will be more happy...

      James Hughes 3DR is fully customizable. You could upgrade Solo for different purposes. A speed mod solo could reach in 60-70mph range. Maybe 80 in ideal conditions. A distance modded Solo can go just as high/far as a Phantom. Key word modded Solo was designed to be modded

    Please stop flying in airplane airspace. There is a reason there are flight limits. its for the publics safety. Fly responsibly or don't fly cause shit like this will ruin it for everyone. Trust me FAA and Transport Canada are on youtube watching this shit

    • @1ProtonProductions1
      @1ProtonProductions1 8 років тому

      +Kyle Hammerquist It may be a rule but it is unnecessary. It is very very unlikely that an aircraft would be flying at only 800 AGL in that area around no airports. Plus, despite the sheer number of people who own drones and abuse them by flying them into aircraft airspace, there has not been even one confirmed drone collision. Although flying at 800 AGL isn't really unsafe to air traffic, I would still probably not break the rules.

    • @lcwas2004
      @lcwas2004 8 років тому +2

      +MikeTheAviator You say it's unnecessary, but my eyeball math estimates he is about 3-4 miles away from the very prominent airport which appears about 2 minutes into the video. Now, let's for a second assume that you're a seasoned aviator and are giving sound pilot advice...that means that you're 100% sure that this individual knows his position in relation to the aerodrome, he's sure that his flight will not conflict with published traffic patterns (which, incidentally can be below 860' in some places) and/or controlled airspace, all flights in the area are conducted by competent pilots who never deviate from their planned or assigned altitudes/ground track, helicopters are not flying in the vicinity, and a slew of other safety of flight considerations. Oh, then there's the not-so-insignificant legal conundrum where he's violating currently established drone use regulations and appears to be completely unaware of them to boot...evidenced by his feeling compelled to post this video on the internet. I echo other posters here in suggesting that this type of behavior is unnecessary, should not be tolerated, and eventually will result in a mishap.

      @Ultra Brian Read my comment again re: nearby airport. "Probably" is no excuse for endangering flight safety through ignorance.

    • @arielkayne9052
      @arielkayne9052 3 роки тому

      @Ultra Brian What are you trying to defend here? Not knowing the actual airspace around the airport (that's visible at around 2 min), it's hard to know for sure...but a controlled airspace ring around a Class D aerodrome starts at the surface and generally runs about 5 SM from the airport center. Highly doubt that this pilot directly contacted an ATC facility for approval prior to this flight. Also, part 107 and LAANC hadn't gone into effect at the time this video was uploaded and B4UFLY had only been available for a month.

      Just watch flying over active roads and private property. Police like the term/charge reckless endangerment and there is a lady in court regarding a falling drone already for over 100 grand as compensation etc. More cash than a DJI Inspire! LOL! 400feet in non residential areas is the accepted FAA limit to altitude as well, people get faa warnings for that and you can bet it puts you on a list of some kind.

    What only 262 meters???? My Syma X8w which is only $80, can pass the 300meter altitude easily... Compare to the phantom, this Solo is shit... My pal's phantom3 pro can go high up to 500meters stock. I'm not a DJI guy, but i think solo is sucks.

      DJI now even raise the max height limit to 620m. (depend on ur region)

    • @Tallguysrc
      @Tallguysrc 8 років тому

      +OokTiaopi you do understand the law says not to fly above 400feet. and besides any footage that high looks bad. if I want to see ants I can just go outside and look down. new rulescsay you can only fly line of sight. so again distance is not a factor. and if you think a $499 dji is better then my solo well get a new hobby. this one is not for you, do yourself a favor read what dji did to make the phamton3 standard cheaper....they did not just drop the price...

    • @alexdrum94
      @alexdrum94 8 років тому

      +Tallguysd You do understand the 400 feet law is from the FAA which is an american branch of government... therefore has no bearing on the majority of the world? You replied to a post that literally says "depending on ur region" with a blanket statement that, statistically speaking, probably doesn't apply to a stranger on the internet. 1 example of this limit put on by DJI being BS... that would be legal in the US is say you live in colorado... you want to fly up part of a mountain. You will be stopped even though you very easily could be less than 400ft off the ground.
