Did you know outdoor living spaces like this one greatly increases your home's value and can bring you a 60% - 80% return on investment?! Does this video inspire you to tackle a project like this one?
Considering the lack of work during covid, I'm sure Tony was happy to have the work. I married a brick/stone mason's daughter. Her entire childhood is made up of lean and fat years.
Love it .I have been a stonemason for 35 years yes I would have done somethings differently but the end result is very nice and more important your happy with it . Most likely the reason behind the wide range in price is because of different way of doing it .
Correct. You’re at risk for pneumoconiosis, an irreversible, progressive, fatal restrictive lung disease when you inhale fine particles such as cement dust.
Still enjoying your hard work? Great project. For the stone veneer you selected from Horizon, what stone and color did you choose? Is that 19th Century in Sedona color? Thanks.
Yes, we still love the outdoor fireplace and use it nightly when the weather is cooler! We used Horizon Stone 19th Century Canyon Ridge. Hope that helps!
This outdoor fireplace turned out incredible! Loved hearing all those pro tips, too-definitely some things I wouldn’t have thought of. Also Tony is a great person. If I ever tackle a project like this in Bakersfield, I’ll probably give Fireplaces Of Bakersfield a shout for some extra guidance!
Good idea about "lowering the opening" to the firebox at the last minute. It probably wouldn't have been a problem for such a massive chimney that draws well, but if there is going to be a smoke problem with a fireplace, many stem from the top (entrance) being too high. Lowering 4 or 5 inches increases draft, and of course, makes it that much harder for any smoke to get out.
Awesome project, and it was designed well to look very good. There is only one slight problem on how the seating and hearth were veneered. The horizontal slab stone should overhang the vertical veneer stone, rather than the vertical stone being in front of the horizontal hearth stone. As it is installed, there is a water penetration joint at that intersection. I understand it is not part of your house, so water intrusion is not a huge concern, but eventually, the water intrusion will damage the mortar holding the vertical veneer stone, and repairs will be necessary, especially after any wet freeze - thaw cycles. Maybe this occurred due to the size of the hearth stone that was used not being wide enough, so something to plan for to avoid this situation.
They came out beautiful. You should get a cast iron heat deflector they come in all kinds of Decorative styles which will radiate the heat forward giving you more warmth
What did you use to wrap and secure the string lights through the chimney cap? I'd like to do something similar but I'm concerned about the heat melting the light wire at the top of the chimney. Great work!
Im a carpenter myself and i have always admired the bricklayers skills, i tried blocking a doorway with bricks once, thank god it was to be covered, not pretty at all 🤣
Wonderful outcome, exactly what we are hoping to achieve. I love the mason built look with mortar tucked joints over the stacked stone kits. Thank you for sharing your experience with such detail.
Looks great. Anyone near the dry concrete mix needs to wear a mask. The dust is caustic. In my area the serious pro's dig the footing several feet deep.
Great job Tony! I like the rake you had on the back of the fire box. Those radius's look great as well. From one mason to another, you did a hell of a job!
How about a shout out to Tony for his good work and working in front of the cameras the whole time, lol. Does he have a website, social media, anything?
It would be so much fun to learn how to do all of that work myself rather than hiring someone. It would require a lot of tools, patience, and time, but it would feel so good knowing it was made with your own hands.
Question for those who know: Why use red brick and not just user cinder blocks for the whole thing? Seems like it’d be cheaper and faster. Is it because they are smaller and thus are better at making the curves/angles required?
I had this fireplace photo saved and had no idea it was yours and that there was a youtube video! How exciting. I really want to do something like this!
I heard John Malecki reference you as a maker he greatly admires in Alex Mazhukhin's podcast, and thought I'd look you up and check out your content. I agree with him; I'd love to see more content from you on youtube! Keep up the amazing work, Jen, and well done.
Thank you for sharing your outdoor fireplace project. Well done! I hope to have one built in the near future. Need to get through the kitchen remodel first. LOL
I would have done it a little different. As long as you are happy that's all that matters. Looks good! You should have gone for the natural stone with a 5 inch bed.
Cheers for the Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered - Panilliaan Immaterial Prevalence (probably on Google)? It is a good exclusive guide for protecting your family from danger without the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my buddy after many years got astronomical success with it.
Scrolling through UA-cam looking for DIY Fire Place... As I’m watching, I’m thinking this dude looks familiar... It’s freaking Adam! Glad you guys are doing well.
I think this is a testament to the equal abilities of women to men. Well done lady, he only planned it and build it, but you, without you, who on this holy earth would talk about it?!! Feminism for all !!!
@@JenWoodhouse1 Aww bless. Here i was trying to get my anti third wave feminism rant going on using a random video, and there you are correcting me with facts. Touché God bless
We are in the final phase of purchasing a house in the Denver area. We have a patio with a natural gas hook up. I would love to do this, but instead of a wood fireplace, make it gas.
Just poured our slab and had stone picked out....until we saw yours. Where did you get your stone covering from? Can you post website and style please? Hopefully ours turns out just as awesome. We are so excited!!!
Hi Michael, my local brick & stone yard gave me a couple of catalogs to look through and then ordered a few samples for me to see in person. I ended up choosing Horizon Stone 19th Century Canyon Ridge because it complemented our house so well: www.horizon-stone.com/19thcentury/ Best of luck on your fireplace!

That concrete made me cry.
What is the manufacturers name , color and stone type. I want that exact stone ahaha

Looks amazing and works as a privacy wall from neighbors! The best thing is that it was accomplished as a family project.
The end result is really nice and I know i would be really proud to have this in my garden.
I am impressed! You and Tony did a great job

Agreed
Thank you.
This video is so well done!!
Easy to watch.

Wear respirators and gloves when working with cement dust.

Also, since they filled the center with soil, when it gets wet and freezes, it will push the face out.
