    I miss those times:
    Buyer: "How much for the shoes?"
    Seller: "175$!"
    Buyer: "I give you 8$!"
    Seller: "No!"
    Buyer: "Ok bye!"
    Seller: "Wait, ok 8$!"

    Thanks for visiting these 2 places. The Panjianyuan market looks more interesting, than these 2 examples which just look like normal shopping malls, less interesting and expensive not many shoppers about. I don't expect to buy genuine antiques, but if I can get some ornaments that look well designed, knowingly fake, under 100 yuan, I would buy. I bought a metal figure of Bhudda the other day for 50 yuan, down from 140, but one lady wanted 300 for a vase smaller than a teacup, so left it, although I liked the design.

      @ForAllLifesAdventures  Рік тому

      Yeah, you are correct - you have to be willing to walk away as some things are just way over priced but it is all part of the fun of visiting that type of mall. 🙏🏻

    It looks more like a higher end shopping mall than a market for people to come and haggle.
    By the way, they are starting to do direct flights from Edinburgh to Beijing this summer.

    Another great video mate. I was shocked how those markets have cleaned up, and died.
    I'm sure the market traders have moved to cheaper premises a little less central, and there are still places where you can buy dodgy cheap gear.
    Of course plenty of people went bust in the pandemic, and where I am, new stores are popping up here and there as people get back on their feet. There are still plenty of closed units, and we've had a couple of big chain supermarkets close down.
    Sorry about your problem with the p#les. You'll have to sit on that one, lol.
    Thanks again.

    • @ForAllLifesAdventures
      @ForAllLifesAdventures  Рік тому +1

      Temple of Heaven and Pearl Market are next to each other and you can visit both together… to get to the Silk Street Market you would have to take taxi or the metro. The metro is straightforward for Silk Street. 👍

    Couple decades ago foreigners going to Beijing would visit the Xiushui Rd market, and Xiangyang Rd market in Shanghai. The stuffs sold there were called "A grade commodities". That suggests there were also B grade, C grade etc. For the A grade basically same quality and indistinguishable from the real ones. You pay like half the price or even less. For many I think it's just a kind of fun and experience.
    Personally I'm not a fan of such practice and certainly not proud of it as Chinese. But I guess it always has its place in a certain period of development. Another famous place for cheaper and poorer yet acceptable quality stuff is Yiwu, Zhejiang. They're very rich today and have mostly departed from the counterfeit industry. When economy keeps growing, there will always be a time people find it necessary to respect and protect IP of their own. In the past decade I found quite a few Chinese companies selling products in their own original design with top notch quality. That said, I think IP is certainly abused by the other side as well. There is a documentary "The Patent Scam" showing how extreme it could get.
    The right place I think, should be somewhere in the middle. IP laws can define the rules of market and offer some degree of protection for R&D and investment while not building too high a barrier to strangle innovation. Fair competition and market disruptors should be allowed and welcomed.

    • @ForAllLifesAdventures
      @ForAllLifesAdventures  Рік тому +1

      I agree with you on respecting the i.p of designers etc... great point and I think there are always alternative for people who can not afford the expensive prices. However people will want to get that image so there will always be space in a market for the products that fill that gap. 🙏🏻

    I’ve just come back from Beijing recently, with my last time going being back in 2018, silk market was depressing this time and nothing like pre covid, store staff said there’s been more policies around selling fakes so it’s a lot harder to find them now. Can still find sellers trying to clear out their fakes in other markets like BaiRong but yeah, not the same

    • @ForAllLifesAdventures
      @ForAllLifesAdventures  10 місяців тому

      Yeah, it has all changed and the old Silk Road was big part of the Beijing experience but I can understand why things changed because it was such an obvious knock off place and could generate negativity! But I did like the experience there but to be honest, I did not buy much….

    It's the sign of the times, the global economy is headed towards a major contraction and the Chinese economy will also feel the consequences just like all countries in the world.
    People are more careful with their money which is a bad thing for traders and shops, this is also a global phenomenom.
    There already is and there will be an even greater devaluation of the US dollar aka inflation which will also impact the euro in Europe and will also have consequences for the RMB because all global currencies are tied together in one way or another.
    It is also telling that it's getting increasingly hard to find real fake products in China, however it's still possible to find some by foreign brand "inspired" products.😉😉

    Piles!!!. Man you didn't show any piles!!🤣🤣🤣
    A fact you need to know about those 'piles'. They come in multi coloured, large and small.
    You should know that these are cultured 'piles'. And the different colouring like greenish, brownish or even pink and blue are made artificially by bombarding them with gamma ray. Yes, gamma ray as in atomic or nuclear process.
    If they are cultured 'piles' which are unprocessed, it's not very round or shinny but cheaper. Processed round ones have added costs.
    You won't find naturally round 'piles' often; but if you do they cost a lot.
    Just a thing or two about those 'piles'.
    🤣🤣🤣🤣
    There's more, but I'm not getting into that.
