Great videos from a good guy who happens to be a very talented runner that all who have been through this in the past can relate to . Good luck for the season 🎉. Hard work always rewards 😊
As Frank Shorter said Hill training is speed training in disguise. That looked an awesome days training and shows what is needed to be one of the very best. Great video
"Boring"? Not in a milllion years! Loved the video, could almost feel the pain of those last few hills. Glad to hear that winter has gone so well. To me the Olympics are athletics - in particular events from 800 up. I can't wait for the 1500. If all of the main protagonists are fit and firing it should be a race to remember. My money is on a Brit 1,2. (Sneeking feeling that Jacob might skip the 1500 citing i njury issues and focus on the 5000 where surely his chances of gold are much better?)
Great video Jake! Weirdly i really like doing hill reps, although a heck of a lot slower than you do them! Looking forward to seeing you back in a big race this summer 👍🙂
What would rest times between each hill run rep be? And do they just keep running till they get to 70secs or do they have a certain point to try get under 70secs? Quality videos
hard day. Wilson and Dykes went to bed after running uphill? and exploding a considerable weight from the knees into a rack without a belt is traumatic
Jake sir when i do long reps like 10x1k in about 3:35-3:40 pace my legs and arms feel tightness sir it's my lactate threshold pace or something else, but sir when i do only one reps of 1k in 2:30-2:35 my legs and arms not feel tightness so sir plz reply me what's the reason it's is my lactate threshold or something else. Love from India 🇮🇳
@@timsimon8995 yeah valid point for sure, I just wondered if he did anything that was specifically just targeting the core if you get me ? Agree though
@@sstevogb the big misconception is thst core means abs. It really involves thr connection from thr pelvis to the upper torso. Any movements you do that utilise and connect those areas is core training, but done in a more specific way.
No offence to the strength coach, but as one myself of 20 years working with runners, that is far too much work for one session. Too many different exercises that should be split over 2 or even 3 sessions. Great exercises, just too much for one session. The workout achieved its purpose 4 exercises in. Anything more was just far too much load and hindering recovery.
@@bobdown5520 sorry your feelings got hurt Bob, but what I wrote was obvious. Once you do enough work to trigger the growth response any more work will just risk injury and inhibit recover. Save it for the next session once super compensation has occurred.
I think the high intensity lifts are what give him an edge. Comparing him and his competitors, he just isn't as fit as most of the other guys. I think being insanely strong (compared to most distance runners) and his high plyometric work are what compensate for the fitness.
You have to rember that jake isnt an ordinary runner, hes one of the best in the world. And to be the best you have to train the best, ordinary training gives ordinary results
@@asmundsundefrde6412 nope not true. Anyone can overtrain. The best do it all the time and get injured. You only need to do so much to trigger that growth response, any more is unnecessary and counter productive.
Nice of you to share both sessions. Thanks!
One of the best training sessions videos ive seen on youtube
I love how you show how hard the session really is. So many pros are like "yeah, just like, getting the legs moving..." Good luck in Flag Jake.
So motivating and inspiring to watch, thank you for sharing.

Really enjoyable, motivating & thanks for sharing. I enjoy following your journey. Look forward to the next video.
The quality on this is spectacular
Thanks for sharing. Great for younger runners like my son, to be able to see what the pros do. Thank you

@10;51.. we see Jake practising the " victory position " for Paris... Good Luck Jake... you deserve every success.
Amazing to watch these films! Cheers Jake for sharing
Great video with the added bonus of also featuring Sunderland Harriers finest ..Michael Wilson
11:55 the guy in the background is performing his own spinal removal, holyyyy
lmaoooo
Those kipping pullups are so idiotic. Murderous on the shoulders. Keeps PT guys in business!
Keep the workout videos coming Jake! Those band assisted pogos and the split stance hex bar lifts were new to me. Got to try them!
Such an easy guy to root for

Great vid Jake!
Brilliant content 👌 loved the gym session class 💪
Very enjoyable video, took me back to my own hill training when hills were much younger. Best of luck this season Jake.
Fantastic video! Great to see how hard you’re pushing in your sessions and the type of exercises you do in the gym.
Brilliant content!👏
Bestia! Terrible vídeo! Esa sesión de hills es asesina
Very watchable video. Really looking forward to watching you race again.
Thnaks Jake, you so inspiring thanks for the update!

Merci !
This hill is so steep in the middle - camera doesn't do it justice and the guys make it look easy!
Great content as always Jake!
Cracking vid - I'm off to do some hills!
Nice to see this. If you can share track schedule would like to watch from USA.
Nice video thank youu🎉
King Dykesy 🎉
Masters sport science student here. Loving the videos! I feel like watching them is kind of like doing research?? Maybe hahah
Lucky you. With me it's just "ok, 15 minutes less work done today" 😉
I initially felt a relief at the beginning when I saw subtitles... Then he started his.... "wot m8" 😢
How often would you do strength training per week?
2 x Full S&C sessions. 1 x Prehab session of more movement and body weight exercises
The lad's got a great front rack.. 😮
What would rest times between each hill run rep be?

Will you try to attempt the 1000m outdoor WR? I think you're one of the only who can break it right now
Does your training also comprise improving the the quantity of pasta you can get on your fork? Think that must be a PB?
I’m glad the actual eating didn’t make the cut. Should be served in a trough 😂
@@jakeswightman I actually felt sorry for you during the hill reps. I called the police to report it but they seemed to think it was hilarious! 😂
what on earth is going on in the background at 11:50
Do you sleep in altitude tent when not at altitude or find no benefit ?
I go in one before training camps to adjust to the height quicker. Then I come back into it when I return to prolong the benefits from altitude.
Are those rebel v4 or elites?
hard day. Wilson and Dykes went to bed after running uphill? and exploding a considerable weight from the knees into a rack without a belt is traumatic
What’s the effort level on the hill repeats? Threshold pace, v02max, ????
Would be VO2 or harder for sure.

Try doing less reps. 6 to 8 will give you all the work you need
Drop the shoe rotation
1080 for warm up/down
Rebel for session
Propel for gym warm up and plyos
Minimum for lifting
@@jakeswightman You should do a video about your shoe/spike rotation

😂😂 you’ll see it soon with some creased t shirts
No core work ? 😪
Have it on other days in the week!
Core does not mean sit ups and endless planks with crappy form. He got plenty of specific core work on a lot of the major lifts and the woodchops.

This guy too much tv time - will he even make the team?
1:15 you ran a 13:49 so pretty bad tbh
That's very solid for a 800/1500 athlete. I'm sure you've run much quicker though 🙄
