I've made this point many times in conversations with theists: People claim they get their morals from their religion, but in reality it's more that they choose their religion to fit their morals. The example I use in support of this is the way people will change churches when the church adopts a viewpoint they don't like (like accepting same-sex relationships, etc.).

The way they quit by saying, "We can't support someone who doesn't stick with the scriptures" is absolutely nuts to me. The scriptures say a LOT more about loving one another than they do about condemning homosexuality.

Oh this is so good. Reminds of a joke. "Three pastors talk about how they handle the money from the offering in their church. First pastor says all of it goes to support the good work of the lord. The second says "Well I throw it on the table and every penny that falls from the table I keep for myself". The third says "Guys you're doing it wrong. I throw it up in the air and the lord will take as much as he needs. But whatever falls down is mine".

Being “saved” hasn’t stopped people from doing truly awful things. Obviously not a deterrent.

As a disabled person that was indoctrinated into that myth since infancy, I detest faith healers. I understand prosperity preachers confusing themselves into believing all the money being donated but the people still staying poor are 'investing in their afterlife' but did you actually believe you could heal people, despite the obvious fact that they weren't getting better?

Seth please keep doing shows like this I enjoy them so much. I have a 1 hour drive home from work. I loved the conversation between Timmy and you. I hope to meet you and Aron one day. I myself live in the Bible Belt. Very small town 7 or 8 churches. Hospital shut down but still have plenty of churches.

The fact that someone who goes through life committing crimes, being a bad person, not living a "Christian" lifestyle can ask for forgiveness at the 11th hour on their deathbed and be in heaven is mind blowing to me.

Homosexuality is the great solvent of Christian faith. The Golden Rule, and the knowledge that no one chooses their sexuality, makes it impossible to continue to discriminate against gay people.

in the late 80s, I watched my brother and their friends ( The older teenagers) burn a bunch of cassettes, l remember seeing Boston and Air Supply; l might burn those myself but not because of Satanic Panic

My church had one of these music-burning events. As soon as I heard it was going to happen, I put all my Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath tapes in a box and hid it in a trunk in the back of my closet. Those jerks weren’t taking my music - especially not the good stuff!

Recently my Pentecostal mother died (in NZ). 3 of her kids are basically atheist (weren’t raised it as she converted a bit later on in life from Catholicism). Regarding the funeral it was an interesting exercise blending what we wanted and what our father and the pastors wanted. But in the end we reached a nice middle ground. We were respectful of them (no crudeness in the eulogy) and they were ok. Some pastors are ok, we were a bit worried it was going to go off the wall.

It is kind of amazing how eager people are to judge instead of learn. When I was a kid I found religions stupid, but didn't really think much of believers - it never was a big thing - but when I realized how f'd up religions can be, I was amazed and wanted to know why they believe what they believe? Well, maybe I'm just too analytic minded, but even so it's still really hard to understand what can be achieved calling people dumb or asking what's wrong with them? And it doesn't matter is one a believer or not, we all seem to do it. Me included. I just try to keep my mouth shut until those f'ers start and won't stop and I'm in a mood for it. Sad, maybe, but sort of venting out the toxic?

You don't have to feel sad for him - he's found the light!
Now be honest, are you sad for him or are you sad for yourself because you are too scared to allow yourself to look at the evidence and come to the same conclusion as Timmy and Seth?
Definition of faith (religious): Believing in something to be true in the absence of evidence!
