Something that the new trilogy did get right - the masks. Michael's whole look and appearance was great, but the masks in particular were extremely well done.
You can tell that it’s supposed to be the same mask in each movie, but just slightly modified and I love that consistency. Unlike the past movies where it’s a different mask every time all the damage and age the masks take in the trilogy really gives it character.
I really love the Halloween kills mask, it’s my favorite, it has everything from the original movie and more, like the burns, the damage and it still looks terrifying, helping it the fact that Michael is terrifying in that movie
I'm right there with you, Barry! I've long said the flashback mask perfects the idea that Carpenter was going for in the original film. Your ranking overall is very similar to mine. Thanks for the video!
@Wolfman's Got Nards I appreciate that very much, Barry. Thank you. I honestly thought about putting the 2018 mask above the 78 as well but I bounced between the two
The first Rob Zombie mask is facially superb, it's top four. I do think the DGG trilogy masks are the ultimates though, I love love love the burn detail on the Kills mask and the age/burn on the Ends one.
Nice video :) 1: Halloween (1978) 2: Halloween II (1981) 3: Halloween 2018 4: Halloween Kills 5: Halloween Ends 6: RZ Halloween (2007) 7: Halloween 4 I am liking the Halloween 4 mask more and more myself, I'll probably end up buying it at some point.
Seems like you're the only one to mention the flashback mask from Kills. 👍 I wouldn't rank it above the OG, but it is my second favorite out of the series.
1. The Original: Its fascinating Ian;t it no budget and the buy a mask from a local store and stray paint it white and it looks more professional and intimidating and better than any of the big budget make thats followed. 2. Halloween (2018): Because it was a big driving point as to why this movie could have been on par with the original and got me excited it was like right big budget and big studio and with all the techniques today they made a mask thats spot on with the original with a few changes because of ageing but amazing. 3. Halloween (Remake): There's something so intimidating and scary about the way this mask looks and how it has a big solid panther like neck to it also it looks very similar to original but it is its own thing exactly how a remake should be.
Great video Barry, this is my top 3 masks 1, original 1978 2, halloween 2018 3, kills And my top 3 worst are: 1, h20 cgi mask 2, RZ halloween 2 (half mask) 3, halloween 5
Hi Barry respect from Ireland, mask no. 3 Halloween 2018, mask no. 2 Halloween 1978, mask no. 1 Halloween kills Flash back, omg i was blown away by the likeness of it, to the 1978 mask, i had to watch the scene 2 or 3 times. Loving your content keep it up Barry 👌✌️🍀🇮🇪🍀✌️💯👍
When you got down to the final 3 I was thinking “what the hell is Barry talking about here!?” Until I saw that number 1 was the flashback mask! Completely forgot about that gorgeous creepy mask. Good list pal.
I was so glad to see the number 1 was the flashback mask. I was so impressed with the look of Michael. The scene where he's outside the house just so still and looking at the police was so creepy
Barry my top 3 would be 3rd H20 Stan Winston, 2nd Halloween 78, 1st Halloween 2018. I loved the 2018 mask👍🎃 for the first time in ages I was back to being a kid and seeing the boogeyman reborn 🎃🎃
I always wanted to see more of bandage Michael from Halloween 4! That look was absolutely terrifying. With the hospital gown and all! Still looked really cool once he got the jumpsuit on though. I wouldn't have had a problem whatsoever if they would have stuck with that look. That's something that should be brought back in a new sequel.
I liked the brute mask from Halloween five for two reasons. Firstly, it was just interesting to see Michael put on a different mask for once, and doing it so he could fool someone into thinking he was someone else. And to me, it sort of spoke to his method of stalking and killing, as he did this with ghost Bob in the original. So I feel like it speaks to Michael's personality as a boogie man and killer. The second reason I like this mask is because yes, it is very emotive. It looks down right angry. But that's why I like it. I feel like this mask, while obviously just a random mask he grabbed off of a victim, is the representation of Michael's true rage inside. The rage that Dr Loomis screams about through this entire film. Michael is very calm on the outside, but I feel like inside he is a ball of fire. And this mask really speaks to that, if not unintentionally.
Yep. John Carl Buechler was asked to give the 6 mask a slight makeover. I think it ends up making him look like the younger, less weathered brother of the Michael from Curse😂
Funny enough, my H4 soft spot has come recently as well, due to your video on timeline rankings. You intrigued me with the H1, H2, H4 timeline. I got my tots h4 mask recently... get one man, they're amazing. Also gotta mention, you forgot one of the best masks. The RZ H2 Hospital dream sequence mask to me was the perfect example of what RZ wanted. Orginality with harsh, bloody grunge. 1. Halloween (1978) .....And a lot of ties after that 😅
For some reason, 'Ends' mask has this weird "sad clown" thing going for it. I think the cheeks got melted a bit too much so Michael looks perpetually sad (or constipated) rather than blank.
Nice list! I loved the flashbacks scenes also. Definitely the highlight of the new films for me. Also wanted to ask, what mask and stand is that in the back behind you? Been looking for a good way to display mine. That looks great
I never minded the mask from part 4. It looked cheap, but like you said it was clean and emotionless. That is one of my favorite Michael Myers performances. George p Wilbur is awesome. And apparently he is also Tom Tucker from family guy, lol. For me, the mask from Resurrection is one of the absolute worst because of the purple highlights in the cheeks and the eyebrows that make him look angry. It was too overly done. Too many features instead of featureless. But, I will say that in certain scenes of that film, like when Michael is stalking Busta rhymes through the house as he is running around in a Michael Myers costume, and other scenes where Michael is lit similarly, the mask looks fantastic. It looks great when it's in the shadows. But, when he steps into the light, you begin to see all of the overly done features on the mask and also his eyes. For some reason, in the late 90s and early 2000s, they thought showing Michael Myers eyes was the thing to do for some reason. Rob zombie's Halloween films get a pass from me when we see Michael's eyes, because to me, it's a totally different take on the character. If you want the shape, watch the original series of films. If you want a story about a serial killer named Michael Myers, watch Rob zombie's Halloween films. But that's a totally different subject. I don't have an issue with seeing Michael's eyes at all, just not all the time. I like how the new trilogy gave us small glances here and there. But that was mostly to show off Michael's battle damage from his encounter with Laurie from Halloween 1978. For me, I probably would have put the Halloween for mask above the Halloween resurrection mask in a ranking. One thing about these masks, even the bad ones, I try to look for something good in them. Even the mask from Halloween 5 looks cool in some shots. One of the still shots you use for your Halloween five mask ranking was right after Michael had just slipped the mask back on in the hermit's shack. I thought that was the best shot of the mask in the whole film. Anyway, I guess that's why Michael's look is so fascinating. It's practically nothing, but there are still so many different angles to look at it from. Physically and intellectually.
I’ve always thought that people tend to make too much of the Halloween 4 mask. It is by far not the worst and is in itself (ignoring the original) pretty creepy.
The flashback mask would have worked better had it not been intended to be the EXACT mask from '78. Had it been used in, say, H4 or H20 it would have been amazing. As it stands, for me, it's top 5 on the list. But its just too clean and bright and the paint is too perfect to convince me its the same mask from '78. Side by side, they aren't as close as many people like to say. If anything, it should have looked a bit more like HII, with a slightly dirtier effect due to him being shot off the balcony and landing in the dirt. Could have even added a few blood spatter marks on the neck and coveralls from the bullets hitting him.
So disrespectful that you have the H6 mask at 15 and behind a clown mask haha! But in all seriousness, it is interesting - I haven’t been aware that many share your opinion on the H6 mask. I always saw H4 and H6 movies as inverses of each other: H4 was good in spite of the mask and H6 not as good but the mask was awesome. Prior to the new trilogy, I had H6 at my number 3 right behind the original and 1981. Good rankings though-that’s a lot of masks to rank haha.
You know, I just realized something watching this video. The CGI mask from Halloween H2O is an abomination and has every right to be the worst mask on this list. But, while I was looking at the still shot that you provided, I had a chance to look at the features and detail. It still looks bad, but if you look at some of the lines on the nose and lips and cheeks, it captures the features of the original mask very well, which is a problem they had not only in this film but all the sequels leading up to it. At a certain point, Rob zombie's Michael Myers mask was one of the closest to the original, while still very different. I think the mask in the new Halloween trilogy is probably the closest we've had, especially in the flashback scenes in Halloween kills. All I'm saying is that when I looked at the still shot of the CGI mask in this video, I realized how so many of the features looked more like the original mask than any mask they used in this movie or anything leading up to. It just baffles me how a professional movie studio cannot figure out how to make a proper Michael Myers mask, yet you can hop online and buy one for like a hundred bucks or less that looks like it was plugged right off of the set of the 1978 film. It's just really weird. It's so strange that this terrible CGI mask came closer to nailing the features than any of the actual physical Mass used in the film. I think they should have just stuck with the mask from six. Although, the actor in six playing Michael was a larger person and if we had seen that mask on the smaller actor who played him in H2O and more scenes, it might not have looked right proportionally. The mask drama behind the scenes with this film is infamous. And one of the most interesting aspects of these films being made. The entire making of Halloween H2O was honestly a c**********, even though they had a lot of great elements and talent involved. By all rights, that film should have been terrible. But somehow, they managed to Frankenstein together one of the greatest Halloween sequels ever in my opinion. But yeah, that CGI mask is terrible, but it comes a lot closer than any of the physical Mass of the time or leading up to it.
I didn't like the Halloween Kills masks. The Burnt mask takes away the real look of the white mask. While the Flashback mask is good, I think it would've been better to hire Tommy Lee Wallace to recreate the mask because he knows how to do it as close as possible.
*Doesn’t want to include the Curse mask in H20 because it’s the same mask as used in Curse, yet proceeds to include the H2 mask even though it’s the exact same mask used in Halloween, doesn’t elaborate, moves on*
But that’s what gives the H2 rz mask more power and weight to its importance. he only puts it on when he kills, hes roaming so he’s not going to wear it all the time. Hell on Halloween night he wearing it most of the time, hell h2 mask is seen more than in Halloween ends, where we don’t even see that mask for nearly 50 minutes. So the mask is in it in allot of the film, racking up an insane 22 kills. But like I say the mask has more importance and purpose that he only puts it on when he’s going to kill, and that makes the mask important to its intended purpose of what Michael sees with his mask, it would lose so much power and story to the mask if all he done was wear it no matter what. The biggest myth in H2 is we don’t see it much, for the amount of blood shed and brutality in H2, it’s seen allot in the film. Halloween ends is where we hardly see the mask, because Michael is hardly in it lol
To me, the masks are like the movies themselves. Outside of 1978, 1981 and the DGG trilogy, I have zero use for the rest. Bit hard to rate all those others. Is one piece of dog crap worse than another piece of dog crap? All dreadful in their own way.
22. H20 KNB-looks like it's made of China. No flexibility, no facial features at all 21. H20 CGI-looks blue, only beats KNB coz it has a better shape 20. H5 brute-just not scary, almost funny 19. H4 pink. I agree Barry, with the right colouring it would be good. But no excuse 18. H4 main-I can understand it being so different as the old mask burnt up but it's not scary at all. It looks Almost clownish 17. Resurrection-it looks grey and too defined. Hair is too wild before the credits and too neat later on 16. 78 clown mask-it's OK, nothing more 15. H6-Hair is too stringy, and it looks thick and heavy 14. RZH2-realistic and menacing, but just shows too much 13. H5-looks creepy and evil as a stand alone, but lacks continuity. It SHOULD be identical to H4 12. RZH1 paper-like this. Simple 11. H20 winston-has good texture and colour. Just the hair and eye holes are both a bit big 10. RZH1 clown-a more menacing update of the original 9. Bandages-it's not really "Michael" but on it's own it has an impact 8. H2-the scariest of the lot, very unsettling, but loses points as it's the same night as the original so shouldn't look so different 7. RZH1 aged-excellent, shouldnt really compare it to the original as its a reimagining, but can't avoid it. So on that basis the hair is too long 6. RZH1 clean-looks closer to 78 with the correct lighting than the aged version 5. Flashback-looks absolutely superb in low light but in other shots it's TOO white and clean. 2=2018, Ends, Kills-love all these. Brilliant aging. Best of all they all look like exactly the same mask 1. 78-not as brilliant white or flawless as the flashback mask, and for me that makes it slightly better, and I know it's not the mask itself, but Nick Castles face gives the mask a better "shape" (no pun intended), it's not so round
Something that the new trilogy did get right - the masks. Michael's whole look and appearance was great, but the masks in particular were extremely well done.
Loved them all. Totally agree.
@@WolfmansGotNards Totally...

The main mask in Halloween 4 was a painted version of that pink one, and yes I absolutely love the Stan Winston mask
I loved your rankings thanks for keeping Halloween alive for us Barry you're channel is such a treat

The H20 Curse mask actually isn't visually identcal to the Halloween 6 mask. It was a different pull with a longer neck and slightly smoother skin.
Yep. John Carl Buechler was asked to give the 6 mask a slight makeover. I think it ends up making him look like the younger, less weathered brother of the Michael from Curse😂

H18 TOTS.
Considering you didn’t include h6 mask in h20 making it 22 in total shouldn’t it only be 21 then giving that the 78/81 masks are also the same?
The Halloween 4 mask is the same as the original just to much paint on it

But yeah, that CGI mask is terrible, but it comes a lot closer than any of the physical Mass of the time or leading up to it.
I rank the halloween kills abovr ends coause their isnt really a difference between the two
Plus the kills does it so much better
I didn't like the Halloween Kills masks. The Burnt mask takes away the real look of the white mask. While the Flashback mask is good, I think it would've been better to hire Tommy Lee Wallace to recreate the mask because he knows how to do it as close as possible.
It's hard for someone to come back and recreate something they done 40 years ago. Fresh eyes was a good thing.
*Doesn’t want to include the Curse mask in H20 because it’s the same mask as used in Curse, yet proceeds to include the H2 mask even though it’s the exact same mask used in Halloween, doesn’t elaborate, moves on*
And the world continued after my video. And I also explained in the video. 👌
What's the Jersey you're wearing? I would have thought you'd be a Rangers guy.
It's a France Jersey.
Your money on France then?
12 mask? 22 mask?
22
yeah its 22 cause in halloween h20 there where like 4 masks i guess
3
I kinda agree with almost all the ranking but i cant stand the eyes of the Stan Winston mask, it looks stupid.
H20 stand Winston the eye holes are way too huge but I'm glad given your H20 love fast that you put it where it belongs.
Thanks. The Eye holes in the H20 mask are slightly smaller than 1978 mask.
Such a H20 fan boy lol
Personally don't like the ends mask its too fucked up for me the mold and spiderwebs and fucked up eyes is too much
To me, the masks are like the movies themselves. Outside of 1978, 1981 and the DGG trilogy, I have zero use for the rest. Bit hard to rate all those others. Is one piece of dog crap worse than another piece of dog crap? All dreadful in their own way.
22. H20 KNB-looks like it's made of China. No flexibility, no facial features at all
21. H20 CGI-looks blue, only beats KNB coz it has a better shape
20. H5 brute-just not scary, almost funny
19. H4 pink. I agree Barry, with the right colouring it would be good. But no excuse
18. H4 main-I can understand it being so different as the old mask burnt up but it's not scary at all. It looks Almost clownish
17. Resurrection-it looks grey and too defined. Hair is too wild before the credits and too neat later on
16. 78 clown mask-it's OK, nothing more
15. H6-Hair is too stringy, and it looks thick and heavy
14. RZH2-realistic and menacing, but just shows too much
13. H5-looks creepy and evil as a stand alone, but lacks continuity. It SHOULD be identical to H4
12. RZH1 paper-like this. Simple
11. H20 winston-has good texture and colour. Just the hair and eye holes are both a bit big
10. RZH1 clown-a more menacing update of the original
9. Bandages-it's not really "Michael" but on it's own it has an impact
8. H2-the scariest of the lot, very unsettling, but loses points as it's the same night as the original so shouldn't look so different
7. RZH1 aged-excellent, shouldnt really compare it to the original as its a reimagining, but can't avoid it. So on that basis the hair is too long
6. RZH1 clean-looks closer to 78 with the correct lighting than the aged version
5. Flashback-looks absolutely superb in low light but in other shots it's TOO white and clean.
2=2018, Ends, Kills-love all these. Brilliant aging. Best of all they all look like exactly the same mask
1. 78-not as brilliant white or flawless as the flashback mask, and for me that makes it slightly better, and I know it's not the mask itself, but Nick Castles face gives the mask a better "shape" (no pun intended), it's not so round
2nd one is Micheal on crack
