Castle Crag (Part 2) - We went up, the rain came down

- Part two of our Castle Crag adventure (wander, mooch, yomp). A rainy day in the English Lake District certainly isn't rare, but wow did it rain. The walk up to Castle Crag from Rosthwaite is a steady one. 20 minutes gentle stroll down the River Derwent followed by 20-30 minutes lung busting calf shredder up to Castle Crag. The summit (if that's the word) of Castle Crag is an abandoned slate quary with almost 360 degree views of Borrowdale and Derwant Water. If you are new to Lakeland walking (as I very much am) then I thoroughly recommend this as a starting point. Be aware that its a fairly steep walk up, however, you can walk around the base of the crag, along the Derwent River, and see it from many angles.
