I also print a lot- I always thought it was a waste of time and paper but now that you mentioned it “cognitively” beneficial - it totally makes sense now!

Many have the same judgement. If one is self-aware and have an open mind they realize printing is actually productive.

Honestly my biggest issue is going for long stretches, hours, without even looking at my email. Sometimes it’s two days before I reply. I’m “that guy” and I hate it. I also respond to emails without reading them fully, prompting passive aggressive replies from others. The taskbar notifications I get so used to seeing the little icons indicating an unread email or teams message has been received that I doesn’t register to look. I feel like I’d be spending my entire day obsessively clearing out that new message notification. I have object permanence issues, a tendency to hyperfocus on my work, and a ridiculously high transition cost of stopping what I’m doing, fully reading and responding to the email, then getting back to what I was doing. That can take a half hour easy. It doesn’t take many emails for that to become my entire day and I also hate that.

ADHD is more of a thinking impairment than most realize. Consider searching you tube for attention talk video rebooting. That video talks about the need to boot up your brain on a topic before you can problem solve. What i'm hearing is you have your head booted up on a work item. You are not looking at email because it would be disrupting your thought process (meaning you would have to refamiliarize yourself with what you were doing... which is cognatively effortful). Reading eamil requires a lot of thinking to understand them and formulate a reply.
In a perfect would you would talk to people not have conversations via email.

I give my husband's email for important things because he always checks his - he's ok with it. I just check my email for certain things and just delete the others.
