Hello chaps, jsut a little note. Never roll your sleeping bags if they are down filled. You will end up with cold spots where the bag get compressed over time when rolled. Stuff it into your stuff sack.
Hands down the Aegismax. The weight and size reduction effectively let's you bring more cold weather clothing to achieve a better overall result, or leave it at home when you don't need it. It gives you more versatility. You can improve its waterproofing with with easy to purchase sprays. Don't get me wrong, I love Quechua (from Decathlon), and most of my clothes and bags are from them. They are of above average quality and doesn't break the bank.
We also prefer the Aegismax bags over the Quechua in this case as they are more lightweight and versatile as you mentioned. Didn't actually know about the waterproofing technique, thanks for sharing. As for many other gear items we like Decathlon as you probably know from our recent video where we show lots of things from them. We agree about the price and quality balance.
@@WalkingNatureWorld, the waterproof sprays only help to keep the water off, like for spills and rain. It does slow the uptake of moisture by the down but not by much. Will still have to wash and air dry them all the same. I recommend hanging them out to air on a paracord line whenever you take longer breaks while outdoors. It keeps the dampness and smells away for much longer.
Excellent review! Thank you The AEGIS is very light. Do you think someone could put two of them together sort of like one being a liner to make it equal to a four season bag? What temperature would be comfortable with two?
Thanks, we haven't tried to use our bags like this but if with one Aegismax bag from our experience the limit you could comfortably sleep is at +5C Celsius, probably it would add a couple degrees to that and make it comfortable at 0C. We actually have the Nano 2 version of this bag which is a bit warmer and we want to test it out this year and see how they compare. We may even do the test of these two together as you said and one Nano 2.
@@WalkingNatureWorld in your opinion , if I put a fleece liner in it , would it be could to 0 Celsius? ( the Aegis max) Thanks for the excellent video!
Very detailed video, thank you for your information and time making it. FYI, you should stuff your sleeping bags foot first into their stuff sacks, not fold and roll them Stuffing is easier for packing and easier on the bag in the long run.
Thanks for your comment. You are right about stuffing sleeping bags, we did discover this technique this year after reading several comments below this video with this recommendation. And it works great and takes less time. We just weren't doing it before because we thought for some reason it can be bad for the down and bag in general. Happy to know that it is not true:)
Thank you for the video 💚 I live in the mountains so I bought a SOL escape bivy to go with my Aegismax bag. I haven't tried it yet but I feel confident after seeing your video 🌄⛺🌲
Certainly helpful, thanks for sharing A remark on the extreme limit though: Usually that simply marks the point hypothermia is prevented enough to not cause severe harm to your health/to cause death. So usually any experience in that temperature area will be unbearable in terms of comfort. :)
Thank you for commenting and pointing out such a useful information, we will keep it in mind for the future reports:) Fortunately we weren't paying too much attention to it and it was a right thing that was proven while testing it.
Great review! thank you so much. This helped me a lot. To the guy: you look so grim sometimes. Cheer up :) FYI: extreme temperature only guarantees that you don't die but maybe get sick.

Hey guys! Thanks for another great video. I have the Decathlon sleeping bag. I love it. I'm only 167m so I have more than enough room. I do agree however that it's not suitable for the mountains. I use my 0°C bag. I hope your quarantine is going well. I've left Paris for the South...The countryside is a better place to be than the city.
Hello, our friend, thanks for the comment. We do think these sleeping bags are a good quality piece so we are saving them for some summer nights at the campsite. The only downside is that they are a bit on a heavier side and the one you mentioned about the temperature limit. We are doing fine, thanks for asking, we are grateful that we live right now in the French Pyrenees far from the city and so it is no that harsh in here. That's a great decision to leave the city in such times. Hope it will be over soon though and our lives will get back to normal.
I'm thinking about getting the Aegismax Nano2. Have you guys looked at it? Seems like it's the warmer version. And if you had two same size sleeping bags and want to zip them together, do you know if the zippers would line up properly? I know you have to flip 1 of the sleeping bag upside down, but without a hood, shouldn't be a big issue.
Yes, it seems like with this bag you can go 5 degrees lower that with our Aegismax without sacrificing too much weight. Yes, we think it should line up properly as the zippers are all identical with these bags, you will just have to flip it over as we mentioned, no problem with that, we sometimes slept like that when we confused sides. Hope it helps.
great review! i recently bought the bag and will be using it for a 3-day hike in the Grand Canyon during first week of September. It will be interesting to see what the temps will be and how the bag works out.
Thanks a lot! We have found that this bag is good in the temperature ratings up to +5 and not so much in a colder weather. So the information stated on the bag is accurate. Hope you will enjoy your adventure!
Hi, thanks for the question:) Well with the Aegismax from our experience the limit you could comfortably sleep is at +5C Celsius and with Quechua is at +8-10C Celsius, the temperatures below that limit start to feel uncomfortable and not advisable to sleep in.
Thanks a lot! We are for now have a schedule to post once per week and are planning to continue doing so. But maybe it will change in the nearest future. We will try to do our best. There will be more Dolomites episodes released soon:)
Interesting video. Please note something though: down sleeping bags have different weight/warmth/size/durability/price ratio than synthetic sleeping bags. You’ll see that down sleeping bags will always be lighter and more packable than synthetic ones. Therefore, I think comparing one of each isn’t really fair. You could compare two down or two synthetic ones, I think the video would interest lots of people :) Apart from Forclaz and Aegis which you already know, you could lookup other brands such as Sea To Summit or Therm-a-Rest. They have some of the best warmth to weight ratio on the market. Thank you for your video, I’m excited for the next ones!

OhI forgot to say. My Aegis max is waterproof, washing you bag in soap may have deplited the proofing. But great bags. If you use it with a light weight fleece liner, not a cheap one(!), it adds to the warmth and you don't add too much weight.
We didn't wash our bag many times, just two times probably in 2 years and we do follow the instructions on the bag, not sure about it. We've been considering buying a liner, can you recommend some good ones?
Hi, we did our Tour du Mont Blanc in Late June using these Aegismax sleeping bags and generally it was fine. If you are going to hike in July-August there will be no inconveniences at all. We hiked with them in the mountains in summer all the time, just had some warm clothes and hats with us and we were good.
Guys, great video. I own both Quechua and Aegismax sleeping bags and they have their cons and pros. I'd like to address some points I think are important, though: First, temperature is measured according to an European norm and states that the three temperatures have specific uses. Women are to pay attention to the comfort temperature, men pay attention to limit temperature and the extreme temperature goes for both men and women but it refers to a level of temperature one will survive hypothermia but not having anything close to a sleep. One won't sleep but not die of hypothermia. And second, you shouldn't roll your sleeping bags since it damages both the synthetic fibers and down. The correct form of storage is to simply stuffing your sleeping bags inside the stuff bag. Stuff and roll, stuff and roll, so on and so forth. There are plenty of videos available concerning these 2 things I mentioned. Enjoy. And thanks again for the great content.
Thank you so much for the valuable feedback and sharing your experience, glad to know you enjoy our content:) The temperature was always a bit confusing subject to address for us as we felt lack of information. So we just shared what we have experienced. About storage this is an interesting point, we knew that it is always better to store sleeping bags unrolled when not using them but while we are hiking it is obviously not an option. If you can advice a good video tutorial related to how toll them properly we would be really grateful.
@@WalkingNatureWorld when not using your sleeping bags, store them either hanging (some sleeping bags have hanging loops at the bottom) ou inside a large bag so it doesn't compress the insulation.
